9 And having called together the Shneym Asar, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach gave to them koach (power) and samchut (authority) over all the shedim and to give refuah (healing) to their illnesses.
2 Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach sent them out as his Shlichim to preach the Malchut Hashem and to give refuah to the cholim,
3 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick nor a schnorrer’s (beggar’s) sack nor lechem nor kesef, nor an extra kaftan.
4 And into whatever bais you may enter, remain there, and from there go out.
5 And as many as do not receive you, going out from that shtetl, shake off the dust from your feet for an edut against them.
6 And they departed and were itinerating throughout the shtetlach, preaching the Besuras HaGeulah and healing everywhere.
7 Now Herod the Tetrarch heard all the things happening and he was perplexed because it was said by some that Yochanan had experienced his Techiyah from HaMesim and come back;
8 by some also that Eliyahu Hanavi had appeared; but by others that some navi of the ancients arose.
9 But Herod said, Yochanan I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things? And he was seeking to see him.
10 And having returned, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach’s Shlichim told him what things they did. And having taken them for a yechidus, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach withdrew to a shtetl being called Beit-Tzaidah.
11 But the multitudes, having realized this, followed him. And having given them a kabbalat panim (welcome), Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was speaking to them about the Malchut Hashem, and to the ones having need of it, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was giving refuah.
12 Now the day began to decline. And having approached, the Shneym Asar said to Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, Send away the multitude, so that having gone into the surrounding shtetlach and farms, they may find lodging and may find provisions, for here we are in a desolate place.
13 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, You give them [something] to eat. But they said, There are not to us more than chamesh kikrot (loaves) and dagim, shenayim, unless we go and buy for all this people okhel (food).
14 For there were about chamesh elafim anashim (five thousand). But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to his talmidim, Have them recline [as at a farbrengen (inspirational gathering)], and chamishim (fifty) in a group. [TEHILLIM 23:2]
15 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim did so, and all reclined [as at tish].
16 And having taken the chamesh kikrot and the shnei hadagim, and having looked up to Shomayim, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said a bracha over them, and offered the betziat halechem, and was giving to the talmidim to set before the multitude.
17 And they ate and all were satisfied, and they picked up shirayim, shneym asar baskets full.
18 And it came about while he was davening alone, with only his talmidim with him, he questioned them, saying, Whom do the multitudes declare me to be?
19 And in reply they said, Yochanan of the tevilah of teshuva; but others, Eliyahu Hanavi; and others, that a certain navi of the ancients has come back to life.
20 And he said to them, And you, who do you declare me to be? And in reply, Kefa said, The Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach of Hashem.
21 And having warned them, he gave orders to tell no one this,
22 Saying, It is necessary for the Ben HaAdam [Moshiach, DANIEL 7:13-14] to suffer much and to be rejected by the Ziknei HaAm and Rashei Hakohanim and Sofrim and to be killed, and after his histalkus (passing), on Yom HaShelishi to undergo the Techiyas HaMoshiach.
23 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was saying to all, If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and lift up his etz shel hakarav atzmo yom yom and let him follow me.
24 For whoever wishes to save his nefesh will lose it. But whoever loses his nefesh on my account will save it.
25 For what is the revach (profit) to a ben Adam who has gained the whole of the Olam Hazeh, but has lost his own self, forfeited his neshamah?
26 For whoever has bushah (shame) toward me and my dvarim, this one the Ben HaAdam (Moshiach, DANIEL 7:13-14) will be ashamed of, when Moshiach comes in his Kavod and the Kavod of HaAv of him and of the malachim hakedoshim (holy angels).
27 But I say to you, Omein, there are some standing here who will by no means taste mavet until they see the Malchut Hashem.
28 And it came to pass, about a week after these divrei Moshiach, that when he had taken Kefa and Yochanan and Yaakov, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach went up to the har to daven.
29 And it came about that while Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach davens, the appearance of his face became different and his kaftan and all his clothing became dazzling white.
30 And two men were conversing with Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, and these two men were Moshe Rabbeinu and Eliyahu HaNavi,
31 Who appeared in kavod and were speaking of Moshiach’s Litziat Exodus, which he was about to fulfill in Yerushalayim.
32 But Kefa and the ones with him had been weighed down with sleep. And having awakened fully, they saw his kavod and the two men standing with him.
33 And it came about, just as the men departed from Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, Kefa said, Adoni, it is good for us to be here; let us make shalosh sukkot, one for you and one for Moshe Rabbeinu and one for Eliyahu HaNavi. (Kefa did not know what he was saying.)
34 And while Kefa was saying these things, an anan (cloud) came and was overshadowing them, and while they entered into the anan they were afraid.
35 And a bat kol came from the anan (cloud), saying ZEH BENI BECHIRI, ELAV TISHMAUN (This is my Son the Chosen One, listen to him. [YESHAYAH 42:1; TEHILLIM 2:7]
36 When the bat kol became silent, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was found alone. And they were silent, and reported to no one in those yamim anything of what they had seen.
37 And it came about on the following day, when they had descended from the har (mountain), a large throng met Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach.
38 And an ish from the multitude cried out, saying, Rabbi, I beg you to look at beni (my son), for to me he is a ben yachid (only son),
39 And a shed seizes him and suddenly shrieking and lets out a shrai and throws the bocher into a convulsion with foam at the mouth and it mauls him and will scarcely depart from him.
40 And I begged your talmidim that they might cast out the shed, and they were not able.
41 And in reply, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said, O perverse dor (generation) without emunah, until when will I be with you, and until when will I put up with you? Bring your ben here. [DEVARIM 32:5]
42 Even now as the bocher was approaching Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, the shed threw him down and convulsed him. But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach rebuked the shed (the ruach hatumah) and gave refuah to the bocher, and gave him back to his abba.
43 And all were amazed at the gedulat Hashem. And while all were beholding the peledike way he was doing everything, he said to his talmidim,
44 Let these divrei Hashem lodge in your ears: for the Ben HaAdam [Moshiach, DANIEL 7:13] is about to be delivered into the hands of Bnei Adam.
45 But they had no binah concerning this dvar of Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, and it had been nistar from them in order that they might not have binah, and they were afraid to ask him about this dvar.
46 Now an argument arose among his talmidim, as to who would be the greatest.
47 And Moshiach, having perceived the machshavah of their levavot, took a yeled into his arms and stood the yeled next to him.
48 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, Whoever receives this yeled in ha-Shem of me [Moshiach], is mekabel (receiving, accepting) of me. And whoever is mekabel of me is mekabel of the One [Hashem] who sent me. For whoever is the least among all of you, this one is the Gadol.
49 And in reply Yochanan said, Adoni, we saw someone casting out shedim bShem of you and we were trying to stop him, because he is not following as one of the anshei shlomeinu (men of our fraternity).
50 But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Do not stop him. For whoever is not against you, is for you.
51 And it came about that as the Yom of Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach’s aliyah ascent to Shomayim approaches, he set his face bedavka (deliberately) and resolutely to go up to Yerushalayim.
52 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach sent messengers ahead of him. And having gone, they entered into a village of Shomron in order to make arrangements for him.
53 And the people of Shomron were not mekabel Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, because his face was set to go to Yerushalayim.
54 And when Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim, Yaakov and Yochanan, witnessed this, they said, Adoneinu, do you want that we should call eish to come down from Shomayim to consume them? [MELACHIM BAIS 1:10,12]
55 And, having turned around, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach rebuked them.
56 And they went to another village.
57 And as they were going baderech (on the road), a certain one said to Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, I will follow you wherever you go.
58 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Foxes have dens, and the OPH HASHOMAYIM (birds of heaven, IYOV 7:13-14) have nests, but the Ben HaAdam (Moshiach, DANIEL 7:13-14) does not have a place where he may lay down his head.
59 And he said to another, Follow me. But the ish said, Adoni, allow me to go first and bury the Av of me.
60 But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Leave the mesim (dead ones, spiritually unregenerate ones without hitkhadshut) to bury their mesim (dead ones), but you go and proclaim the Malchut Hashem.
61 And another said also, I will follow you, Adoni. But first allow me to say lhitraot to the ones in my bais. [MELACHIM ALEF 19:20]
62 But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to him, No one having put his hand upon the plow yet looking back to the things behind is fit for the Malchut Hashem. [BERESHIS 19:26]

9 Then (B)He called His twelve disciples together and (C)gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. 2 (D)He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 (E)And He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.
4 (F)“Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 (G)And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, (H)shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”
6 (I)So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
Herod Seeks to See Jesus(J)
7 (K)Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, 8 and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. 9 Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” (L)So he sought to see Him.
Feeding the Five Thousand(M)
10 (N)And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. (O)Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 (P)When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.”
13 But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” 14 For there were about five thousand men.
Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.” 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He (Q)blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 So they all ate and were [a]filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(R)
18 (S)And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 So they answered and said, (T)“John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
(U)Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection(V)
21 (W)And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, (X)“The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him(Y)

Jesus Transfigured on the Mount(AF)
28 (AG)Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were (AH)Moses and (AI)Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His [c]decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and those with him (AJ)were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him. 33 Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three [d]tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the (AK)cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (AL)“This is [e]My beloved Son. (AM)Hear Him!” 36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. (AN)But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
A Boy Is Healed(AO)
37 (AP)Now it happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him. 38 Suddenly a man from the multitude cried out, saying, “Teacher, I implore You, look on my son, for he is my only child. 39 And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth; and it departs from him with great difficulty, bruising him. 40 So I implored Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.”
41 Then Jesus answered and said, “O [f]faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and [g]bear with you? Bring your son here.” 42 And as he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father.
Jesus Again Predicts His Death(AQ)
43 And they were all amazed at the majesty of God.
But while everyone marveled at all the things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples, 44 (AR)“Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.” 45 (AS)But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.
Who Is the Greatest?(AT)
46 (AU)Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. 47 And Jesus, (AV)perceiving the thought of their heart, took a (AW)little child and set him by Him, 48 and said to them, (AX)“Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and (AY)whoever receives Me (AZ)receives Him who sent Me. (BA)For he who is least among you all will be great.”
Jesus Forbids Sectarianism(BB)
49 (BC)Now John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.”
50 But Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him, for (BD)he who is not against [h]us is on [i]our side.”
A Samaritan Village Rejects the Savior
51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for (BE)Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 But (BF)they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54 And when His disciples (BG)James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, [j]just as (BH)Elijah did?”
55 But He turned and rebuked them, [k]and said, “You do not know what manner of (BI)spirit you are of. 56 [l]For (BJ)the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.
The Cost of Discipleship(BK)

9 Habiendo reunido a los doce, Jesús les dio poder y autoridad para expulsar a todos los demonios y para sanar enfermedades. 2 Entonces los envió a predicar el reino de Dios y a sanar a los enfermos. 3 «No lleven nada para el camino: ni bastón, ni bolsa, ni pan, ni dinero, ni dos mudas de ropa —les dijo—. 4 En cualquier casa que entren, quédense allí hasta que salgan del pueblo. 5 Si no los reciben bien, salgan de ese pueblo y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies como un testimonio contra sus habitantes». 6 Así que partieron y fueron por todas partes de pueblo en pueblo, predicando las buenas noticias y sanando a la gente.
7 Herodes, el tetrarca, se enteró de todo lo que estaba sucediendo. 10 Cuando regresaron los apóstoles, contaron a Jesús lo que habían hecho. Él se los llevó consigo y se retiraron solos a un pueblo llamado Betsaida, 11 pero la gente se enteró y lo siguió. Él los recibió y les habló del reino de Dios. También sanó a los que lo necesitaban.
12 Al atardecer se acercaron los doce y le dijeron:
—Despide a la gente, para que vaya a buscar alojamiento y comida en los campos y pueblos cercanos, pues donde estamos no hay nada.[a]
13 —Denles ustedes mismos de comer —dijo Jesús.
—No tenemos más que cinco panes y dos pescados, a menos que vayamos a comprar comida para toda esta gente —objetaron ellos, 14 porque había allí unos cinco mil hombres.
Pero Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
—Hagan que se sienten en grupos como de cincuenta cada uno.
15 Así lo hicieron los discípulos y se sentaron todos. 16 Entonces Jesús tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados y, mirando al cielo, los bendijo. Luego los partió y se los dio a los discípulos para que se los repartieran a la gente. 17 Todos comieron hasta quedar satisfechos y de los pedazos que sobraron se recogieron doce canastas.
La confesión de Pedro(D)(E)
18 Un día Jesús estaba orando a solas; cuando llegaron sus discípulos, preguntó:
—¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?
19 Le respondieron:
—Unos dicen que Juan el Bautista, otros que Elías y otros que uno de los antiguos profetas ha resucitado.
20 —Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo? —preguntó Jesús.
—El Cristo de Dios —afirmó Pedro.
21 Jesús ordenó terminantemente que no dijeran esto a nadie. 22 Y les dijo:
—El Hijo del hombre tiene que sufrir muchas cosas y ser rechazado por los líderes religiosos, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la Ley. Es necesario que lo maten y que resucite al tercer día.
23 Dirigiéndose a todos, declaró:
—Si alguien quiere ser mi discípulo, que se niegue a sí mismo, tome su cruz cada día y me siga. 24 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mi causa la salvará. 25 ¿De qué le sirve a uno ganar el mundo entero si se pierde o se destruye a sí mismo? 26 Si alguien se avergüenza de mí y de mis palabras, el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga en su gloria y en la gloria del Padre y de los santos ángeles. 27 Además, les aseguro que algunos de los aquí presentes no sufrirán la muerte sin antes haber visto el reino de Dios.
La transfiguración(F)
28 Unos ocho días después de decir esto, Jesús, acompañado de Pedro, Juan y Santiago, subió a una montaña a orar. 29 Mientras oraba, su rostro se transformó y su ropa se volvió blanca y radiante. 30 Y aparecieron dos personajes —Moisés y Elías—, que conversaban con Jesús. 31 Tenían un aspecto glorioso, y hablaban de la partida de Jesús, que él iba a cumplir en Jerusalén. 32 Pedro y sus compañeros estaban rendidos de sueño, pero cuando se despabilaron, vieron su gloria y a los dos personajes que estaban con él. 33 Mientras estos se apartaban de Jesús, Pedro, sin saber lo que estaba diciendo, propuso:
—Maestro, ¡qué bien que estemos aquí! Podemos levantar tres albergues: uno para ti, otro para Moisés y otro para Elías.
34 Estaba hablando todavía cuando apareció una nube que los envolvió y al entrar en la nube se asustaron. 35 Entonces salió de la nube una voz que dijo: «Este es mi Hijo, mi escogido. ¡Escúchenlo!». 36 Después de oírse la voz, Jesús quedó solo. Los discípulos guardaron esto en secreto y por algún tiempo a nadie contaron nada de lo que habían visto.
Jesús sana a un muchacho endemoniado(G)
37 Al día siguiente, cuando bajaron de la montaña, le salió al encuentro mucha gente. 38 Y un hombre de entre la multitud exclamó:
—Maestro, te ruego que atiendas a mi hijo, pues es el único que tengo. 39 Resulta que un espíritu se posesiona de él y de repente el muchacho se pone a gritar; también lo sacude con violencia y hace que eche espumarajos. Cuando lo atormenta, a duras penas lo suelta. 40 Ya rogué a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran, pero no pudieron.
41 —¡Ah, generación incrédula y malvada! —respondió Jesús—. ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar con ustedes y soportarlos? Trae acá a tu hijo.
42 Estaba acercándose el muchacho cuando el demonio lo derribó con una convulsión. Pero Jesús reprendió al espíritu maligno, sanó al muchacho y se lo devolvió al padre. 43 Y todos se quedaron asombrados de la grandeza de Dios.
En medio de tanta admiración por todo lo que hacía, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
44 —Presten mucha atención a lo que les voy a decir: El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres.
45 Pero ellos no entendían lo que quería decir con esto. Estaba encubierto para que no lo comprendieran y no se atrevían a preguntárselo.
¿Quién va a ser el más importante?(H)(I)
46 Surgió entre los discípulos una discusión sobre quién de ellos sería el más importante. 47 Como Jesús sabía bien lo que pensaban, tomó a un niño y lo puso a su lado.
48 —El que recibe en mi nombre a este niño —dijo—, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió. Porque el que es más pequeño entre todos ustedes, ese es el más importante.
49 —Maestro —dijo Juan—, vimos a un hombre que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre y se lo impedimos, porque no es de los nuestros.
50 —No se lo impidan —respondió Jesús—, porque el que no está contra ustedes está a favor de ustedes.
La oposición de los samaritanos
51 Como se acercaba el tiempo de que fuera llevado al cielo, Jesús se hizo el firme propósito de ir a Jerusalén. 52 Envió por delante mensajeros, que entraron en un pueblo samaritano para prepararle alojamiento; 53 pero allí la gente no quiso recibirlo porque se dirigía a Jerusalén. 54 Cuando los discípulos Santiago y Juan vieron esto, preguntaron:
—Señor, ¿quieres que hagamos caer fuego del cielo para[b] que los destruya?
55 Pero Jesús se volvió a ellos y los reprendió. 56 Luego[c] siguieron la jornada a otra aldea.
Lo que cuesta seguir a Jesús(J)
57 Iban por el camino cuando alguien dijo a Jesús:
—Te seguiré adondequiera que vayas.
58 —Las zorras tienen madrigueras y las aves tienen nidos —respondió Jesús—, pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene dónde recostar la cabeza.
59 A otro le dijo:
—Sígueme.
Él contestó:
—Señor, primero déjame ir a enterrar a mi padre.
60 —Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos, pero tú ve y proclama el reino de Dios —respondió Jesús.
61 Otro afirmó:
—Te seguiré, Señor, pero primero deja despedirme de mi familia.
62 Jesús respondió:
—Nadie que mire atrás después de poner la mano en el arado es apto para el reino de Dios.
