Sabbatens Herre
6 En sabbat tog Jesus vägen genom ett sädesfält, och hans lärjungar ryckte av ax, som de gnuggade i händerna och åt. 2 Några av fariseerna sade då: "Varför gör ni det som inte är tillåtet på sabbaten?" 3 Jesus svarade dem: "Har ni inte läst vad David gjorde, när han och hans följeslagare var hungriga, 4 hur han gick in i Guds hus och tog skådebröden och åt och gav sina män? De bröden fick endast prästerna äta." 5 Och han tillade: "Människosonen är sabbatens Herre."
6 En annan sabbat gick han in i synagogan och undervisade. Där fanns en man vars högra hand var förtvinad. 7 De skriftlärda och fariseerna iakttog Jesus noga för att se, om han skulle bota någon på sabbaten. De ville få något att anklaga honom för. 8 Men han visste vad de tänkte och sade till mannen med den förtvinade handen: "Stig upp och kom hit." Då reste han sig och gick fram. 9 Jesus sade till dem: "Jag frågar er: Är det på sabbaten mera tillåtet att göra gott än att göra ont, att rädda liv än att döda?" 10 Och han såg sig omkring på dem alla och sade till mannen: "Räck ut din hand." Mannen gjorde det och hans hand var nu frisk. 11 Men de blev fullständigt ursinniga och började diskutera med varandra vad de kunde göra med Jesus.
Jesus utser tolv apostlar
12 Vid den tiden gick Jesus upp på berget för att be, och han bad hela natten till Gud. 13 När det blev dag, kallade han till sig sina lärjungar och valde ut bland dem tolv, som han kallade apostlar: 14 Simon, som han gav namnet Petrus, och hans bror Andreas, Jakob och Johannes, Filippus och Bartolomeus, 15 Matteus och Thomas, Jakob, Alfeus son, och Simon som kallades "ivraren",[a] 16 Judas, Jakobs son, och Judas Iskariot, han som blev förrädare.
JESU SLÄTTPREDIKAN (Kap 6:17-49)
17 Jesus gick ner tillsammans med dem och stannade på en slätt. Där var en stor skara lärjungar och mycket folk från hela Judeen och Jerusalem och från kuststräckan vid Tyrus och Sidon. 18 De hade kommit för att höra honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar. Också de som plågades av orena andar blev botade. 19 Och allt folket ville röra vid honom, eftersom kraft gick ut från honom och botade alla.
Saligprisningar och verop
20 Jesus lyfte blicken, såg på sina lärjungar och sade: "Saliga är ni som är fattiga, er tillhör Guds rike. 21 Saliga är ni som nu hungrar, ni skall bli mättade. Saliga är ni som nu gråter, ni skall skratta. 22 Saliga är ni, när människor hatar er och stöter bort er, när de hånar och smutskastar er,[b] allt för Människosonens skull. 23 Gläd er på den dagen, ja, hoppa av glädje! Ty se, er lön blir stor i himlen. På samma sätt gjorde deras fäder med profeterna.
24 Men ve er, ni rika! Ni har fått ut er tröst. 25 Ve er, ni som nu är mätta! Ni kommer att hungra. Ve er, ni som nu skrattar! Ni kommer att sörja och gråta. 26 Ve er, när alla människor talar väl om er! På samma sätt gjorde deras fäder med de falska profeterna.
Älska era fiender
27 Men till er som lyssnar säger jag: Älska era fiender och gör gott mot dem som hatar er. 28 Välsigna dem som förbannar er och be för dem som förorättar er. 29 Om någon slår dig på den ena kinden, så vänd också den andra kinden till. Och om någon tar ifrån dig manteln, så låt honom också ta din livklädnad. 30 Ge åt var och en som ber dig, och om någon tar ifrån dig vad som är ditt, så kräv det inte tillbaka. 31 Allt vad ni vill att människor skall göra er, det skall ni göra dem. 32 Om ni älskar dem som älskar er, skall ni ha tack för det? Också syndare älskar dem som visar dem kärlek. 33 Och om ni gör gott mot dem som gör gott mot er, skall ni ha tack för det? Så handlar också syndare. 34 Och om ni lånar åt dem som ni hoppas skall betala tillbaka, skall ni ha tack för det? Också syndare lånar åt syndare för att få tillbaka vad de lånat ut. 35 Nej, älska era fiender, gör gott och ge lån utan att hoppas få igen något. Då skall er lön bli stor, och ni skall vara den Högstes barn, eftersom han är god mot de otacksamma och onda. 36 Var barmhärtiga så som er Fader är barmhärtig.
Flisan och bjälken
37 Döm inte, och ni skall inte bli dömda. Fördöm inte, och ni skall inte bli fördömda. Förlåt, och ni skall bli förlåtna. 38 Ge, och ni skall få. Ett gott mått, packat, skakat och rågat skall Gud ge er[c] i famnen. Ty med det mått som ni mäter med skall det mätas upp åt er."
39 Han gav dem också en liknelse: "Kan väl en blind leda en blind? Faller då inte båda i gropen? 40 En lärjunge är inte förmer än sin lärare, och när någon har blivit fullärd blir han som sin lärare. 41 Varför ser du flisan i din broders öga men märker inte bjälken i ditt eget öga? 42 Hur kan du säga till din broder: Broder, låt mig ta bort flisan ur ditt öga, när du inte ser bjälken i ditt eget öga? Du hycklare, ta först bort bjälken ur ditt eget öga! Då kommer du att se så klart att du kan ta bort flisan ur din broders öga.
Av frukten känner man trädet
43 Det finns inte något bra träd som bär dålig frukt, inte heller något dåligt träd som bär bra frukt. 44 Ett träd känner man igen på frukten. Inte plockar man väl fikon från tistlar eller vindruvor från törnbuskar? 45 En god människa bär fram det som är gott ur sitt hjärtas goda förråd, och en ond människa bär fram det som är ont ur sitt hjärtas onda förråd. Ty vad hjärtat är fullt av, det talar munnen.
Liknelsen om de två husbyggarna
46 Varför kallar ni mig 'Herre, Herre', när ni inte gör vad jag säger? 47 Den som kommer till mig och lyssnar till mina ord och handlar efter dem - vem han är lik, det skall jag visa er. 48 Han liknar en man som byggde ett hus och grävde djupt och lade grunden på klippan. När floden sedan kom, vräkte den sig mot huset, men den kunde inte skaka det, eftersom det var välbyggt. 49 Men den som lyssnar och inte handlar liknar en man som byggde ett hus på marken utan att lägga någon grund. Floden vräkte sig mot huset som genast rasade, och förödelsen blev stor för det huset."

Lärjungarna plockar ax på sabbaten
(Matt 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28)
6 En sabbat, när Jesus och hans lärjungar gick genom några sädesfält, ryckte hans lärjungar av ax, som de gnuggade mellan händerna och åt.
2 Men några av fariseerna sa: ”Varför gör ni så där? Det där är ju inte tillåtet på sabbaten.”
3 Då svarade Jesus dem: ”Har ni aldrig läst vad David gjorde när han och hans män blev hungriga?[a] 4 Han gick in i Guds hus och åt av skådebröden som bara prästerna får äta och delade sedan med sig till de andra.” 5 Sedan sa Jesus till dem: ”Människosonen är Herre över sabbaten.”
Jesus botar en man på sabbaten
(Matt 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6)
6 En annan sabbat gick han in i synagogan och undervisade. Då satt där en man med en förtvinad högerhand. 7 De skriftlärda och fariseerna höll noga ögonen på Jesus, om han skulle bota på sabbaten. I så fall skulle de få något att anklaga honom för.
8 Men Jesus förstod precis vad de tänkte. Därför sa han till mannen med den förtvinade handen: ”Res dig upp och kom hit.” Och mannen reste sig och kom fram.
9 Jesus sa till dem: ”Låt mig få fråga er en sak: Vad är tillåtet på sabbaten, att göra gott eller att göra ont, att rädda liv eller att förgöra det?” 10 Han såg sig omkring på dem och sa sedan till mannen: ”Räck fram din hand!” Och när mannen gjorde det, blev handen normal igen. 11 Men de blev rasande och började prata med varandra om vad de skulle kunna göra med Jesus.
Jesus utser sina tolv lärjungar

12 Några dagar senare gick Jesus upp på ett berg för att be, och han bad till Gud hela natten. 13 När det ljusnade kallade han sedan samman sina lärjungar och utsåg tolv av dem som han kallade apostlar[b]: 14 Simon, som han gav namnet Petrus, Simons bror Andreas, Jakob, Johannes, Filippos, Bartolomaios, 15 Matteus, Tomas, Alfaios son Jakob, Simon, som kallades seloten[c], 16 Jakobs son Judas och Judas Iskariot, han som senare förrådde Jesus.
Mycket folk följer Jesus

17 När Jesus hade kommit ner tillsammans med dem, stannade de på en slätt. Där var många av hans lärjungar och en stor folkmassa från hela Judeen och Jerusalem och från kustområdet vid Tyros och Sidon[d] 18 som hade kommit för att höra honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar. De som led av orena andar blev helade, 19 och alla försökte röra vid honom, eftersom det gick ut kraft från honom som gjorde alla friska.
Verklig lycka
20 Sedan vände han sig till sina lärjungar och sa:
”Lyckliga är ni som är fattiga[e],
för er tillhör Guds rike.
21 Lyckliga är ni som nu hungrar[f],
för ni ska bli mättade.
Lyckliga är ni som nu gråter,
för ni ska få skratta.
22 Lyckliga är ni när man för Människosonens skull hatar er
och tar avstånd från er,
hånar er och smutskastar ert namn.
23 Gläd er då, hoppa av glädje, för ni får en stor lön i himlen. Så gjorde ju deras förfäder med profeterna.
24 Men ve er som är rika,
för ni har redan fått ut er tröst.
25 Ve er som nu är mätta,
ni ska få gå hungriga.
Ve er som nu skrattar,
ni ska få sörja och gråta.
26 Ve er som man nu talar väl om.
Så gjorde ju deras förfäder med de falska profeterna.
Om att älska sina fiender
(Matt 5:39-42)
27 Men till dem som lyssnar säger jag: älska era fiender, gör gott mot dem som hatar er, 28 välsigna dem som förbannar er och be för dem som förolämpar er.
29 Slår någon dig på ena kinden, så vänd också fram den andra. Vill någon ta ditt ytterplagg, så hindra honom inte från att ta skjortan också. 30 Ge till alla som ber dig, och om någon tar det som är ditt, så kräv det inte tillbaka. 31 Gör så mot andra så som ni vill att de ska göra mot er.
32 Om ni bara älskar dem som älskar er, är ni då värda särskilt beröm? Även syndare älskar ju dem som ger dem kärlek. 33 Och om ni gör gott mot dem som gör gott mot er, är det något så märkvärdigt med det? Det gör ju syndare också! 34 Om ni lånar ut pengar till dem som kan betala tillbaka, är det något man bör tacka er för? Även syndare lånar ju till sina vänner om de får igen pengarna.
35 Nej, älska era fiender och gör gott mot dem, och ge lån utan att oroa er för om ni får det tillbaka. Då ska ni få stor lön och bli den Högstes barn, för han är själv god mot dem som är otacksamma och onda.
36 Var barmhärtiga, så som er Fader i himlen är barmhärtig.
Om att döma andra
(Matt 7:1-5)
37 Döm inte, så ska ni själva inte bli dömda. Förklara ingen skyldig, så ska ni inte förklaras skyldiga. Förlåt, så ska ni få förlåtelse. 38 Ge, så kommer ni att få. Ett gott, packat, skakat och rågat mått ska ges i er famn. För med det mått ni mäter ska det mätas upp åt er.”
39 Sedan berättade han en liknelse: ”En blind kan väl inte leda en annan blind? Faller då inte båda i gropen? 40 Och en lärjunge står inte över sin lärare, men när han är fullärd, kan han bli som sin lärare.
41 Varför ser du flisan i din medmänniskas öga, när du inte märker bjälken i ditt eget? 42 Hur kan du säga till henne: ’Kom så ska jag ta bort flisan ur ditt öga’, när du samtidigt inte märker bjälken i ditt eget? Du hycklare, ta först bort bjälken ur ditt öga! Sedan kan du se klart och ta bort flisan ur din medmänniskas öga.
Av frukten känner man trädet
(Matt 7:17-20)
43 Ett bra träd kan aldrig bära dålig frukt, och ett dåligt träd kan aldrig bära bra frukt. 44 Trädet känns igen på den frukt det bär. Man hittar inte fikon på tistlar eller vindruvor på törnbuskar. 45 En god människa bär fram det goda ur den godhet som lagrats i hennes hjärta, medan en ond människa bär fram det onda ur den ondska som lagrats i hennes hjärta. Munnen talar ju vad hjärtat är fullt av.
Om att bygga på stadig grund
(Matt 7:24-27)
46 Varför kallar ni mig ’Herre, Herre’, när ni ändå inte gör som jag säger? 47 Den som kommer till mig och hör mina ord och handlar efter dem – vem han liknar, det ska jag visa er. 48 Han liknar en man som bygger ett hus och gräver så djupt att han kan lägga grunden på ett berg. När floden sedan svämmar över och vattnet vräker sig mot huset, står det stadigt kvar, eftersom det är väl byggt.
49 Men den som hör och inte handlar, han liknar en man som bygger ett hus direkt på marken utan att gräva någon grund. Och när floden vräker sig mot huset, faller det genast ihop med ett stort brak.”

Jesus Is Lord over the Sabbath(A)
6 One Sabbath day Jesus was walking through some fields of grain. His ·followers [disciples] picked the heads of grain, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them [Deut. 23:25]. 2 Some Pharisees said, “Why do you do what is ·not lawful [forbidden] on the Sabbath day?” [C Gleaning was viewed as work, and therefore forbidden on the Sabbath; Ex. 34:21.]
3 Jesus answered, “Have you not read what David did when he and ·those with him [his companions] were hungry [1 Sam. 21:1–6]? 4 He went into God’s house and took and ate the ·holy bread [consecrated bread; L bread of presentation], which is ·lawful [allowed] only for priests to eat [Ex. 25:30; Lev. 24:5–9]. And he gave some to ·the people who were with him [his companions].” 5 Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, “The Son of Man [C a title for the Messiah; Dan. 7:13–14] is ·Lord [Master] of the Sabbath day.”
Jesus Heals a Man’s Hand(B)

Jesus Chooses His Apostles(C)

because the kingdom of God ·belongs to you [is yours].
21 You people who are now hungry are blessed,
because you will be ·satisfied [filled].
You people who are now ·crying [weeping] are blessed,
because you will ·laugh with joy [L laugh].

Love Your Enemies(E)
27 “But I say to you who are listening, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who ·are cruel to [hurt; mistreat] you. 29 If anyone ·slaps [strikes; hits] you on one cheek [C probably an insult or act of rejection, although it could be a stronger punch], ·offer him [T turn] the other cheek, too. If someone takes your coat, do not ·stop him from taking [withhold] your ·shirt [tunic]. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and when someone takes something that is yours, don’t ·ask for [demand] it back. 31 ·Do to others what [Treat others as] you would want them to ·do to [treat] you. 32 If you love only the people who love you, what ·praise [credit] should you get? Even sinners love the people who love them. 33 If you do good only to those who do good to you, what ·praise [credit] should you get? Even sinners do that! 34 If you lend things to people, ·always hoping to get something back [or …from whom you expect to be repaid], what ·praise [credit] should you get? Even sinners lend to other sinners ·so that they can get back the same amount [expecting to be repaid in full]! 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without ·hoping [expecting] to get anything back. Then you will have a great reward, and you will be children of the Most High God, because he is kind even to people who are ungrateful and ·full of sin [wicked; evil]. 36 ·Show mercy [Be compassionate], just as your Father ·shows mercy [is compassionate].
Look at Yourselves(F)
37 “Don’t judge others, and you will not be judged. Don’t ·accuse others of being guilty [condemn others], and you will not be ·accused of being guilty [condemned]. ·Forgive [Pardon; Release], and you will be ·forgiven [pardoned; released]. 38 Give, and ·you will receive [L it will be given to you]. ·You will be given much [L …a good measure…]. ·Pressed down [Compacted], shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap [C the image is of grain overflowing its container]. The ·way you give to [standard/measure you use with] others is the ·way God will give to [standard/measure God will use with] you.”
39 Jesus told them this ·story [parable]: “Can a blind person ·lead [guide] another blind person? No! Both of them will fall into a ·ditch [pit; hole]. 40 A ·student [disciple] is not ·better than [above] the teacher, but ·the student [L everyone] who has been fully trained will be like the teacher.
41 “Why do you notice the ·little piece of dust [speck; tiny splinter] in your ·friend’s [L brother’s (or sister’s)] eye, but you don’t ·notice [consider] the ·big piece of wood [log; plank; beam] in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your ·friend [L brother], ‘·Friend [L Brother], let me take that ·little piece of dust [speck; tiny splinter] out of your eye’ when you cannot see that ·big piece of wood [log; plank; beam] in your own eye! You hypocrite! First, take the ·wood [log; plank; beam] out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the ·dust [speck; tiny splinter] out of your friend’s [L brother’s] eye.
Two Kinds of Fruit(G)
43 “[L For] A good tree does not produce ·bad [rotten] fruit, nor does a ·bad [rotten] tree produce good fruit. 44 [L For] Each tree is ·known [identified] by its own fruit. [L For] People don’t ·gather [pick] figs from thornbushes, and they don’t get grapes from ·bushes [brambles; briers]. 45 Good people bring good things out of the good ·they stored [treasured] in their hearts. But evil people bring evil things out of the evil ·they stored [treasured] in their hearts. ·People speak the things that are in their hearts [L For the mouth speaks what overflows from the heart].
Two Kinds of People(H)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what everyone is like who comes to me and ·hears [listens to] my words and ·obeys [acts on them]. 48 That person is like a man building a house who dug deep and laid the foundation on rock. When the floods came, the ·water [L river] ·tried to wash the house away [L swept/burst against that house], but it could not shake it, because the house was built well. 49 But the one who ·hears [listens to] my words and does not ·obey [act on them] is like a man who built his house on the ground without a foundation. When the ·floods [L river] ·came [swept/burst against it], the house quickly ·fell [collapsed] and was completely destroyed.”

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)
6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.(B) 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(C)
3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(D) 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(E) And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(F) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6 On another Sabbath(G) he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(H) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.(I) 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking(J) and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious(K) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles(L)
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.(M) 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:(N) 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew,(O) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Blessings and Woes(P)
17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,(Q) 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him,(R) because power was coming from him and healing them all.(S)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.(T)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.(U)
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.(V)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you(W) and insult you(X)
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.(Y)
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,(Z) because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.(AA)
24 “But woe to you who are rich,(AB)
for you have already received your comfort.(AC)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.(AD)
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.(AE)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.(AF)
Love for Enemies(AG)
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(AH) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(AI) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(AJ) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(AK)
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(AL) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(AM) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(AN) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(AO) of the Most High,(AP) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(AQ) just as your Father(AR) is merciful.
Judging Others(AS)
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(AT) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(AU) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(AV) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(AW)
39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(AX) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(AY)
41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit(AZ)
43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(BA) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(BB)
The Wise and Foolish Builders(BC)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(BD) and do not do what I say?(BE) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(BF) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
