10 Siden utvalgte Herren også sytti andre og sendte dem ut, to og to, i forveien for sig til hver by og hvert sted hvor han selv skulde komme.
2 Og han sa til dem: Høsten er stor, men arbeiderne få; bed derfor høstens herre at han vil drive arbeidere ut til sin høst!
3 Gå avsted! Se, jeg sender eder som lam midt iblandt ulver.
4 Bær ikke pung, ikke skreppe, ikke sko; gi eder ikke i tale med nogen på veien!
5 Men hvor I kommer inn i et hus, der skal I først si: Fred være med dette hus!
6 Og er det et fredens barn der, da skal eders fred hvile over ham, men hvis ikke, da skal den vende tilbake over eder.
7 Men bli der i huset, og et og drikk hvad de byr eder! for arbeideren er sin lønn verd. I skal ikke flytte fra hus til hus.
8 Og hvor I kommer inn i en by og de tar imot eder, der skal I ete hvad de setter frem for eder,
9 og helbred de syke som er der, og si til dem: Guds rike er kommet nær til eder!
10 Men hvor I kommer inn i en by og de ikke tar imot eder, der skal I gå ut på dens gater og si:
11 Endog støvet som er blitt hengende ved våre føtter av eders by, stryker vi av til eder; men dette skal I vite at Guds rike er kommet nær!
12 Jeg sier eder at det skal gå Sodoma tåleligere på hin dag enn den by.
13 Ve dig, Korasin! ve dig, Betsaida! for dersom de kraftige gjerninger som er gjort i eder, var gjort i Tyrus og Sidon, da hadde de for lenge siden omvendt sig og sittet i sekk og aske.
14 Dog, det skal gå Tyrus og Sidon tåleligere i dommen enn eder.
15 Og du, Kapernaum, som er blitt ophøiet like til himmelen! like til dødsriket skal du bli nedstøtt.
16 Den som hører eder, hører mig, og den som forkaster eder, forkaster mig, og den som forkaster mig, forkaster ham som sendte mig.
17 Og de sytti kom glade tilbake og sa: Herre! endog de onde ånder er oss lydige i ditt navn!
18 Da sa han til dem: Jeg så Satan falle ned fra himmelen som et lyn.
19 Se, jeg har gitt eder makt til å trede på slanger og skorpioner og over alt fiendens velde, og ingen ting skal skade eder;
20 dog, gled eder ikke over dette at åndene er eder lydige, men gled eder over at eders navn er opskrevet i himmelen!
21 I den samme stund frydet han sig i den Hellige Ånd og sa: Jeg priser dig, Fader, himmelens og jordens herre, fordi du har skjult dette for de vise og forstandige og åpenbaret det for de umyndige; ja, Fader, fordi således skjedde det som var velbehagelig for dig.
22 Alle ting er mig overgitt av min Fader, og ingen kjenner til hvem Sønnen er, uten Faderen, og hvem Faderen er, uten Sønnen og den som Sønnen vil åpenbare det for.
23 Og han vendte sig særlig til sine disipler og sa: Salige er de øine som ser det I ser;
24 for jeg sier eder: Mange profeter og konger har villet se det I ser, og har ikke fått se det, og høre det I hører, og har ikke fått høre det.
25 Og se, en lovkyndig stod op og fristet ham og sa: Mester! hvad skal jeg gjøre forat jeg kan arve evig liv?
26 Han sa til ham: Hvad er skrevet i loven? hvorledes leser du?
27 Han svarte og sa: Du skal elske Herren din Gud av alt ditt hjerte og av all din sjel og av all din makt og av all din hu, og din næste som dig selv.
28 Da sa han til ham: Du svarte rett; gjør dette, så skal du leve!
29 Men da han vilde gjøre sig selv rettferdig, sa han til Jesus: Hvem er da min næste?
30 Jesus svarte og sa: En mann gikk ned fra Jerusalem til Jeriko, og han falt iblandt røvere, som både klædde ham av og slo ham og gikk bort og lot ham ligge halvdød.
31 Men det traff sig så at en prest drog samme vei ned, og han så ham, og gikk like forbi.
32 Likeså en levitt; han kom til stedet, gikk frem og så ham, og gikk like forbi.
33 Men en samaritan som var på reise, kom dit hvor han var, og da han så ham, ynkedes han inderlig,
34 og han gikk bort til ham og forbandt hans sår og helte olje og vin i dem, og han løftet ham op på sitt eget dyr og førte ham til et herberge og pleide ham.
35 Og da det led mot næste dag, tok han to penninger frem og gav verten og sa til ham: Plei ham! og hvad mere du måtte koste på ham, det skal jeg betale dig igjen når jeg kommer tilbake.
36 Hvem av disse tre synes du nu viste sig som den manns næste som var falt iblandt røverne?
37 Han sa: Den som gjorde barmhjertighet imot ham. Da sa Jesus til ham: Gå du bort og gjør likeså!
38 Og det skjedde mens de var på vandring, at han kom til en by, og en kvinne ved navn Marta tok imot ham i sitt hus.
39 Og hun hadde en søster som hette Maria; hun satte sig ved Jesu føtter og hørte på hans ord.
40 Men Marta hadde det meget travelt med å tjene ham; hun gikk da frem og sa: Herre! bryr du dig ikke om at min søster har latt mig bli alene om å tjene dig? Si da til henne at hun skal hjelpe mig!
41 Men Jesus svarte og sa til henne: Marta! Marta! du gjør dig strev og uro med mange ting;
42 men ett er nødvendig. Maria har valgt den gode del, som ikke skal tas fra henne.

The Seventy Sent Out
10 After these things the Lord appointed [a]seventy others also, and (A)sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. 2 Then He said to them, (B)“The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore (C)pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go your way; (D)behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4 (E)Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and (F)greet no one along the road. 5 (G)But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. 7 (H)And remain in the same house, (I)eating and drinking such things as they give, for (J)the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 (K)And heal the sick there, and say to them, (L)‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 (M)‘The very dust of your city which clings to [b]us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ 12 [c]But I say to you that (N)it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.
Woe to the Impenitent Cities(O)
13 (P)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! (Q)For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 (R)And you, Capernaum, [d]who are (S)exalted to heaven, (T)will be brought down to Hades. 16 (U)He who hears you hears Me, (V)he who rejects you rejects Me, and (W)he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
The Seventy Return with Joy
17 Then (X)the [e]seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, (Y)“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, (Z)I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but [f]rather rejoice because (AA)your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit(AB)
21 (AC)In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 (AD)All[g] things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and (AE)no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”
23 Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, (AF)“Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; 24 for I tell you (AG)that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”
The Parable of the Good Samaritan(AH)
25 And behold, a certain [h]lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, (AI)“Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”
27 So he answered and said, (AJ)“ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and (AK)‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and (AL)you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to (AM)justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among [i]thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, (AN)he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain (AO)Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had (AP)compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, [j]when he departed, he took out two (AQ)denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”
Then Jesus said to him, (AR)“Go and do likewise.”
Mary and Martha Worship and Serve
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named (AS)Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, (AT)who also (AU)sat at [k]Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
41 And [l]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But (AV)one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus sends out the seventy
10 After this the master commissioned seventy others, and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he was intending to come.
2 “There’s a great harvest out there,” he said to them, “but there aren’t many workers. So plead with the harvest-master to send out workers for the harvest.
3 “Off you go now. Remember, I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Take no money-bag, no pack, no sandals—and don’t stop to pass the time with anyone on the road. 5 Whenever you go into a house, first say, ‘Peace on this house.’ 6 If a child of peace lives there, your peace will rest on them; but if not, it will return to you.
7 “Stay in the same house, and eat and drink what they provide. The worker deserves to be paid, you see. Don’t go from house to house. 8 If you go into a town and they welcome you, eat what is provided, 9 heal the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘God’s kingdom has come close to you.’ 10 But if you go into a town and they don’t welcome you, go out into the streets of the town and say, 11 ‘Here is the very dust of your town clinging to our feet—and we’re wiping it off in front of your eyes! 12 But you should know this: God’s kingdom has come close to you!’ Let me tell you, on that day it will be more tolerable for Sodom than for that town.
13 “Woe betide you, Chorazin! Woe betide you, Bethsaida! If the powerful deeds done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum—you want to be lifted up to heaven, do you? No: you’ll be sent down to Hades!
16 “Anyone who hears you, hears me; anyone who rejects you, rejects me; and anyone who rejects me, rejects the one who sent me.”
The celebration of Jesus
17 The seventy came back exhilarated.
“Master,” they said, “even the demons obey us in your name!”
18 “I saw the satan fall like lightning from heaven,” he replied. 19 “Look: I’ve given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over every power of the enemy. Nothing will ever be able to harm you. 20 But—don’t celebrate having spirits under your authority. Celebrate this, that your names are written in heaven.”
21 Then and there Jesus celebrated in the holy spirit.
“I thank you, Father,” he said, “Lord of heaven and earth! You hid these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to babies. Yes, Father, that was what you graciously decided. 22 Everything has been given me by my father. Nobody knows who the son is except the father, and nobody knows who the father is except the son, and anyone to whom the son wishes to reveal him.”
23 Jesus then turned to the disciples privately.
“A blessing on the eyes,” he said, “which see what you see! 24 Let me tell you, many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and they didn’t see it; and to hear what you hear, and they didn’t hear it!”
The parable of the good Samaritan
25 A lawyer got up and put Jesus on the spot.
“Teacher,” he said, “what should I do to inherit the life of the coming age?”
26 “Well,” replied Jesus, “what is written in the law? What’s your interpretation of it?”
27 “You shall love the Lord your God,” he replied, “with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your understanding; and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 “Well said!” replied Jesus. “Do that and you will live.”
29 “Ah,” said the lawyer, wanting to win the point, “but who is my neighbor?”
30 Jesus rose to the challenge. “Once upon a time,” he said, “a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and was set upon by brigands. They stripped him and beat him and ran off leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down that road, and when he saw him he went past on the opposite side. 32 So too a Levite came by the place; he saw him too, and went past on the opposite side.
33 “But a traveling Samaritan came to where he was. When he saw him he was filled with pity. 34 He came over to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. Then he put him on his own beast, took him to an inn, and looked after him. 35 The next morning, as he was going on his way, he gave the innkeeper two dinars. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my way back I’ll pay you whatever else you need to spend on him.’
36 “Which of these three do you think turned out to be the neighbor of the man who was set upon by the brigands?”
37 “The one who showed mercy on him,” came the reply.
“Well,” Jesus said to him, “you go and do the same.”
Martha and Mary
38 On their journey, Jesus came into a village. There was a woman there named Martha, who welcomed him. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the master’s feet and listened to his teaching.
40 Martha was frantic with all the work in the kitchen.
“Master,” she said, coming in to where they were, “don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work all by myself? Tell her to give me a hand!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” he replied, “you are fretting and fussing about so many things. 42 Only one thing matters. Mary has chosen the best part, and it’s not going to be taken away from her.”

For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth(R) and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum,(S) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[b]
16 “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”(T)
17 The seventy-two(U) returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”(V)
18 He replied, “I saw Satan(W) fall like lightning from heaven.(X) 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes(Y) and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”(Z)
21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AA) Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father.(AB) No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”(AC)
23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”(AD)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan(AE)
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(AF)
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c];(AG) and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”(AH)
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”(AI)
29 But he wanted to justify himself,(AJ) so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.(AK) 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan,(AL) as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
At the Home of Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(AM) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(AN) who sat at the Lord’s feet(AO) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(AP) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(AQ) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f](AR) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
