8 At nangyari pagkatapos ng kaunting panahon, na siya'y naglalakad sa mga bayan at mga nayon, na ipinangangaral at dinadala ang mabubuting balita ng kaharian ng Dios, at kasama niya ang labingdalawa,
2 At ang (A)ilang babae na pinagaling sa masasamang espiritu at sa mga sakit, si Maria, na tinatawag na Magdalena, na sa kaniya'y pitong demonio ang nagsilabas,
3 At (B)si Juana na asawa ni Chuza, katiwala ni Herodes, at si Susana, at iba pang marami na ipinaglilingkod sa kanila ang kanilang tinatangkilik.
4 At (C)nang magkatipon ang malaking karamihang tao, at ang mga mula sa bawa't bayan na nagsadya sa kaniya, ay nagsalita siya sa pamamagitan ng isang talinghaga:
5 Ang manghahasik ay yumaon upang maghasik ng kaniyang binhi: at sa kaniyang paghahasik ang ilan ay nangahulog sa tabi ng daan; at napagyapakan, at ito'y kinain ng mga ibon sa langit.
6 At ang iba'y nahulog sa batuhan; at pagsibol, ay natuyo, sapagka't walang halumigmig.
7 At ang iba'y nahulog sa mga dawagan; at tumubong kasama ang mga dawag, at yao'y ininis.
8 At ang iba'y nahulog sa mabuting lupa, at tumubo at nagbunga ng tigiisang daan. Pagkasabi niya ng mga bagay na ito, siya ay sumigaw, Ang may mga pakinig na ipakikinig, ay makinig.
9 At tinanong siya ng kaniyang mga alagad, kung ano kaya ang talinghagang ito.
10 At sinabi niya, Sa inyo'y ipinagkaloob ang mangakaalam ng mga hiwaga ng kaharian ng Dios: datapuwa't sa mga iba'y sa mga talinghaga; (D)upang kung magsitingin ay huwag silang mangakakita, at mangakarinig ay huwag silang mangakaunawa.
11 (E)Ito ang talinghaga: Ang binhi ay ang salita ng Dios.
12 At ang mga sa tabi ng daan, ay ang nangakinig; kung magkagayo'y dumarating ang diablo, at inaalis ang salita sa kanilang puso, upang huwag silang magsisampalataya at mangaligtas.
13 At ang mga sa batuhan, ay yaong mga pagkarinig, ay tinatanggap na may galak ang salita; at ang mga ito'y walang ugat, na sila sa sangdaling panaho'y nagsisisampalataya, at sa panahon ng tukso ay nagsisihiwalay.
14 At ang nahulog sa dawagan, ay ito ang nangakinig, at samantalang sila'y nagsisiyaon sa kanilang lakad ay iniinis sila ng mga pagsusumakit at mga kayamanan at mga kalayawan sa buhay na ito, at hindi nangagbubunga ng kasakdalan.
15 At ang sa mabuting lupa ay ang mga pusong timtiman at mabuti, na iniingatan ang salita pagkarinig, at nangagbubungang (F)may pagtitiis.
16 At walang taong (G)pagkapaningas niya ng ilawan ay tinatakpan ng isang banga, o inilalagay kaya ito sa ilalim ng isang higaan; kundi inilalagay ito sa talagang lalagyan, upang makita ng nagsisipasok ang ilaw.
17 Sapagka't walang bagay na natatago, (H)na di mahahayag; o walang lihim, na di makikilala at mapapasa liwanag.
18 Ingatan ninyo kung paano ang inyong pakikinig: (I)sapagka't sino mang mayroon ay bibigyan; at ang sinomang wala, pati ng inaakala niyang nasa kaniya ay aalisin.
19 (J)At nagsiparoon sa kaniya ang kaniyang ina at mga kapatid, at sila'y hindi mangakalapit sa kaniya dahil sa karamihan ng tao.
20 At may nagsabi sa kaniya, Nangakatayo sa labas ang iyong ina at iyong mga kapatid, na ibig nilang makita ka.
21 Datapuwa't siya'y sumagot, at sinabi sa kanila, Ang aking ina at ang aking mga kapatid ay (K)itong nangakikinig ng salita ng Dios, at ginagawa.
22 (L)Nangyari nga sa mga araw na yaon, na siya'y lumulan sa isang daong, siya at ang kaniyang mga alagad; at sinabi niya sa kanila, Magsitawid tayo sa kabilang ibayo ng (M)dagatdagatan: at sila'y nagsitulak.
23 Datapuwa't samantalang sila'y nangaglalayag, siya'y nakatulog: at bumugso ang isang unos ng hangin sa dagatdagatan; at sila'y nangatitigib ng tubig, at nangasa kapanganiban.
24 At sila'y nangagsilapit sa kaniya at siya'y ginising, na nangagsasabi, Guro, guro, tayo'y mangamamatay. At siya'y gumising, at sinaway ang hangin at ang galit ng tubig: at nangagsitigil, at humusay ang panahon.
25 At sinabi niya sa kanila, Saan naroon ang inyong pananampalataya? At palibhasa'y nangatakot sila'y nagsisipanggilalas, na sinasabi ng isa sa iba, Sino nga ito, na siya'y naguutos maging sa hangin at sa tubig, at siya'y tinatalima nila?
26 At sila'y nagsidating (N)sa lupain ng mga Gadareno, na nasa tapat ng Galilea.
27 At pagkalunsad niya sa lupa, siya'y sinalubong ng (O)isang lalaking galing sa bayan, na may mga demonio; at malaong panahon na hindi siya nagdaramit, at hindi tumatahan sa bahay, kundi sa mga libingan.
28 At nang makita niya si Jesus, siya'y sumigaw, at nagpatirapa sa harap niya, at sinabi ng malakas na tinig, Ano ang pakialam ko sa iyo, Jesus, ikaw na Anak ng Dios na Kataastaasan? Ipinamamanhik ko sa iyo, na huwag mo akong pahirapan.
29 Sapagka't ipinagutos niya sa karumaldumal na espiritu na lumabas sa tao. Sapagka't madalas siyang inaalihan: at siya'y binabantayan at gapos ng mga tanikala at mga damal; at pagka pinapatid ang gapos ay siya'y itinataboy ng demonio sa mga ilang.
30 At tinanong siya ni Jesus, Ano ang pangalan mo? At sinabi niya, Pulutong; sapagka't maraming demonio ang nagsipasok sa kaniya.
31 At ipinamamanhik nila sa kaniya na huwag silang paparoonin sa (P)kalalimlaliman.
32 Doon nga'y may isang kawan ng maraming baboy na nagsisipanginain sa bundok: at ipinamanhik nila sa kaniya na pabayaang sila'y magsipasok sa mga yaon. At sila'y pinahintulutan niya.
33 At nagsilabas ang mga demonio sa tao, at nagsipasok sa mga baboy: at ang kawan ay napadaluhong sa bangin hanggang sa dagatdagatan, at nangalunod.
34 At nang makita ng nagsisipagalaga ng mga yaon ang nangyari, ay nagsitakas, at isinaysay sa bayan at sa bukid.
35 At sila'y nagsilabas upang makita ang nangyari; at nagsilapit sila kay Jesus, at kanilang naratnan (Q)sa paanan ni Jesus ang taong nilabasan ng mga demonio, na nakaupo, (R)may pananamit, at matino ang kaniyang bait: at sila'y nangatakot.
36 At sa kanila'y isinaysay ng nangakakita kung paanong pinagaling ang inaalihan ng mga demonio.
37 At ipinamanhik sa kaniya ng lahat ng mga tao sa palibotlibot ng lupain ng mga Gadareno na siya'y umalis sa kanila, sapagka't sila'y napipigilan ng malaking takot: at siya'y lumulan sa daong, at nagbalik.
38 Datapuwa't namanhik sa kaniya (S)ang taong nilabasan ng mga demonio, na siya'y ipagsama niya: datapuwa't siya'y pinaalis niya, na sinasabi,
39 Umuwi ka sa iyong bahay, at ipahayag mo kung gaano kadakilang mga bagay ang ginawa ng Dios sa iyo. At siya'y yumaon ng kaniyang lakad, na ibinabalita sa buong bayan, kung gaanong kadakilang mga bagay ang sa kaniya'y ginawa ni Jesus.
40 At sa (T)pagbalik ni Jesus, ay sinalubong siyang may galak ng karamihan; sapagka't hinihintay siya nilang lahat.
41 At narito, lumapit ang isang lalaking (U)nagngangalang Jairo, at siya'y isang pinuno sa sinagoga: at siya'y nagpatirapa sa paanan ni Jesus, at ipinamamanhik sa kaniya, na pumasok sa kaniyang bahay;
42 Sapagka't siya'y may (V)isang bugtong na anak na babae, na may labingdalawang taong gulang, at siya'y naghihingalo. Datapuwa't samantalang siya'y lumalakad ay sinisiksik siya ng karamihan.
43 At isang babae na may labingdalawang taon nang inaagasan, na ginugol sa mga manggagamot ang lahat niyang pagkabuhay, at sinoma'y walang makapagpagaling sa kaniya,
44 Ay lumapit sa kaniyang likuran, at hinipo ang laylayan ng kaniyang damit at pagdaka'y naampat ang kaniyang agas.
45 At sinabi ni Jesus, Sino ang humipo sa akin? At nang tumatanggi ang lahat, ay sinabi ni Pedro, at ng mga kasamahan niya, Guro, iniimpit ka at sinisiksik ka ng karamihan.
46 Datapuwa't sinabi ni Jesus, May humipo sa akin, sapagka't naramdaman ko na may umalis na bisa sa akin.
47 At nang makita ng babae na siya'y hindi nalingid, ay lumapit siya na nangangatal, at nagpatirapa sa harapan niya na isinasaysay sa harapan ng buong bayan ang dahil kung bakit siya'y hinipo niya, at kung paanong gumaling siya kapagdaka.
48 At sinabi niya sa kaniya, Anak, pinagaling (W)ka ng iyong pananampalataya; (X)yumaon kang payapa.
49 Samantalang nagsasalita pa siya ay dumating ang isa na mula sa bahay ng pinuno sa sinagoga, na nagsasabi, Patay na ang anak mong babae; huwag mong bagabagin ang Guro.
50 Datapuwa't nang marinig ito ni Jesus ay sumagot sa kaniya, Huwag kang matakot: manampalataya ka lamang, at siya'y gagaling.
51 At nang dumating siya sa bahay, ay hindi niya ipinahintulot na pumasok na kasama niya ang sinomang tao, maliban na kay Pedro, at kay Juan, at kay Santiago, at ang ama ng dalaga at ang ina nito.
52 At tumatangis ang lahat, at pinananambitanan ang dalaga: datapuwa't sinabi niya, Huwag kayong magsitangis; sapagka't siya'y hindi patay, kundi natutulog.
53 At tinawanan nila siya na nililibak, na napagaalamang siya'y patay na.
54 Datapuwa't tinangnan niya sa kamay, at tinawag, na sinasabi, Dalaga, magbangon ka.
55 At nagbalik ang kaniyang espiritu, at siya'y nagbangon pagdaka: at kaniyang ipinagutos na siya'y bigyan ng pagkain.
56 At nangagtaka ang kaniyang mga magulang: datapuwa't ipinagbilin niya (Y)sa kanila na huwag sabihin kanino man ang kaniyang ginawa.

8 După aceea, Isus a călătorit prin fiecare cetate şi sat, predicând şi vestind Evanghelia Împărăţiei lui Dumnezeu. Împreună cu El erau cei doisprezece, 2 precum şi nişte femei care fuseseră vindecate de duhuri rele şi de neputinţe: Maria, numită Magdalena, din care ieşiseră şapte demoni, 3 Ioana – soţia lui Cuza, administratorul lui Irod[a] –, Suzana şi încă multe altele care Îl[b] slujeau cu ceea ce aveau.
4 Când s-a adunat o mare mulţime şi au venit la El oameni de prin fiecare cetate, le-a vorbit prin următoarea pildă:
5 „Semănătorul a ieşit să-şi semene sămânţa. În timp ce semăna el, o parte din sămânţă a căzut lângă drum şi a fost călcată în picioare şi au mâncat-o păsările cerului. 6 O altă parte a căzut pe stâncă şi cum a crescut, s-a uscat, pentru că nu avea umezeală. 7 O altă parte a căzut în mijlocul spinilor, iar spinii au crescut împreună cu ea şi au sufocat-o. 8 Alta însă a căzut pe pământ bun, a crescut şi a făcut rod însutit.“
După ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a strigat: „Cine are urechi de auzit, să audă!“
9 Ucenicii Lui L-au întrebat ce înseamnă această pildă. 10 El le-a răspuns: „Vouă v-a fost dat să cunoaşteţi tainele[c] Împărăţiei lui Dumnezeu, dar celorlalţi le vorbesc în pilde, pentru ca

11 Iată ce înseamnă pilda: sămânţa este Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. 12 Sămânţa de lângă drum sunt cei care aud Cuvântul, dar vine apoi diavolul şi ia Cuvântul din inima lor, ca nu cumva să creadă şi să fie mântuiţi. 13 Sămânţa de pe stâncă sunt cei care, atunci când aud Cuvântul, îl primesc cu bucurie, dar aceştia nu au rădăcină; ei cred doar pentru o vreme, iar în perioadă de ispită, cad. 14 Sămânţa căzută între spini sunt cei care aud Cuvântul, dar, în timp ce îşi văd de drum, sunt sufocaţi de îngrijorările, bogăţiile şi plăcerile vieţii şi nu aduc rod copt. 15 Sămânţa din pământul bun sunt cei care, atunci când aud Cuvântul, îl ţin într-o inimă onestă şi bună şi aduc rod cu răbdare.
Felinarul pus pe un suport
16 Nimeni nu aprinde un felinar ca să-l acopere cu un vas sau să-l pună sub pat, ci îl pune pe un suport, pentru ca cei ce intră, să vadă lumina. 17 Căci nu este nimic ascuns care nu va fi dezvăluit şi nimic tăinuit care să nu fie făcut cunoscut şi care să nu iasă la iveală. 18 Luaţi seama, deci, la felul cum ascultaţi, căci celui ce are i se va da, dar de la cel ce n-are se va lua chiar şi ceea ce i se pare că are!“
Mama şi fraţii lui Isus
19 Atunci mama şi fraţii Lui au venit la El,[e] dar nu puteau ajunge la El din cauza mulţimii. 20 I s-a spus:
– Mama şi fraţii Tăi stau afară şi doresc să Te vadă!
21 Dar Isus le-a răspuns:
– Mama Mea şi fraţii Mei sunt cei ce ascultă Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu şi-l împlinesc.
Isus linişteşte furtuna
22 Într-una din zile, Isus S-a suit în barcă împreună cu ucenicii Lui şi le-a zis: „Să traversăm în partea cealaltă a lacului!“ Şi au plecat. 23 În timp ce ei vâsleau, Isus a adormit. Pe lac s-a stârnit o asemenea furtună[f], încât barca se umplea cu apă iar ei se aflau în pericol. 24 Au venit la El, L-au trezit şi I-au zis:
– Stăpâne, Stăpâne, pierim!
El s-a sculat, a mustrat vântul şi valurile înfuriate, iar ele au încetat şi s-a făcut linişte. 25 Apoi i-a întrebat:
– Unde vă este credinţa?!
Ei s-au temut, au rămas uimiţi şi şi-au zis unii altora: „Cine este Acesta de porunceşte până şi vânturilor, şi apei şi ele Îl ascultă?!“[g]
Isus vindecă un om stăpânit de demoni
26 Au vâslit mai departe, înspre ţinutul gherasenilor[h], care se află în dreptul Galileii. 27 Când a coborât pe ţărm, I-a ieşit înainte un anumit om din cetate, care era stăpânit de demoni. De multă vreme nu[i] purta haine şi nu locuia într-o casă, ci în morminte. 28 Când L-a văzut pe Isus, a strigat, I s-a închinat şi a zis cu glas puternic:
– Ce am eu de-a face cu Tine, Isuse, Fiu al Dumnezeului cel Preaînalt? Te rog să nu mă chinui!
29 Căci Isus îi poruncise duhului necurat să iasă din om. De multe ori acesta punea stăpânire pe el; fusese pus sub pază şi legat cu lanţuri şi cătuşe, dar rupea legăturile şi era dus de către demon în locuri pustii.
30 Isus l-a întrebat:
– Care-ţi este numele?
– „Legiune“[j], I-a răspuns el.
Căci în el intraseră mai mulţi demoni. 31 Aceştia îl rugau să nu le poruncească să se ducă în Adânc[k].
32 Acolo, pe munte, era o turmă mare de porci care păşteau. Demonii L-au rugat să le dea voie să intre în porcii aceia, iar El le-a dat voie. 33 Demonii au ieşit din om şi au intrat în porci. Atunci turma s-a repezit pe râpă în jos şi s-a înecat în lac.
34 Când porcarii au văzut ce s-a întâmplat, au fugit şi au dat de ştire în cetate şi în cătune. 35 Oamenii au ieşit să vadă ce s-a întâmplat şi au venit la Isus. L-au găsit pe omul din care ieşiseră demonii, stând jos la picioarele lui Isus, îmbrăcat şi cu mintea întreagă şi s-au înspăimântat. 36 Cei ce văzuseră cum fusese vindecat cel demonizat le-au povestit totul. 37 Atunci toată mulţimea din ţinutul gherasenilor L-au rugat pe Isus să plece de la ei, pentru că îi cuprinsese o mare frică. El S-a urcat în barcă şi S-a întors.
38 Omul din care ieşiseră demonii Îl rugase să-l lase să vină cu El, dar Isus l-a trimis înapoi, spunându-i: 39 „Întoarce-te acasă şi povesteşte cât de mult a făcut Dumnezeu pentru tine!“ El a plecat şi a vestit prin toată cetatea cât de mult a făcut Isus pentru el.[l]
Vindecarea unei femei şi învierea unei fetiţe
40 Când Isus S-a întors, mulţimea I-a urat bun venit, pentru că toţi Îl aşteptau. 41 Şi iată că un om, numit Iair, care era conducătorul sinagogii, a venit, a căzut la picioarele lui Isus şi L-a rugat să vină până la el acasă, 42 pentru că singura lui fiică, în vârstă de vreo doisprezece ani, era pe moarte.
În timp ce mergea, mulţimile se înghesuiau în jurul Lui. 43 O femeie, care de doisprezece ani avea o scurgere de sânge (şi care cheltuise pe la doctori tot ce avusese)[m], fără să fi putut fi vindecată de cineva, 44 a venit prin spate şi s-a atins de marginea hainei lui Isus. Imediat scurgerea ei de sânge s-a oprit.
45 Isus a întrebat:
– Cine M-a atins?
Pentru că toţi negau, Petru I-a zis:
– Stăpâne, mulţimile se înghesuie în jurul Tău şi se îmbulzesc în Tine, (şi mai întrebi: „Cine M-a atins?“!)[n]
46 Dar Isus a zis:
– M-a atins cineva, pentru că ştiu că a ieşit o putere din Mine!
47 Când femeia a văzut că n-a scăpat neobservată, a venit tremurând, a căzut înaintea Lui şi I-a spus, înaintea întregii mulţimi, de ce L-a atins şi cum fusese vindecată imediat. 48 El i-a zis: „Fiică, credinţa ta te-a vindecat! Du-te în pace!“
49 În timp ce El încă vorbea, a venit cineva din casa conducătorului sinagogii şi i-a zis acestuia: „Fetiţa ta a murit! Nu-L mai deranja pe Învăţător!“
50 Isus însă a auzit şi i-a zis lui Iair: „Nu te teme! Crede doar, şi ea va fi vindecată!“
51 Când a ajuns la casă, n-a lăsat pe nimeni să intre împreună cu El, în afară de Petru, de Ioan, de Iacov şi de tatăl şi mama copilului. 52 Toţi plângeau şi o jeleau, însă Isus le-a zis: „Nu mai plângeţi, pentru că ea n-a murit, ci doarme!“
53 Ei însă râdeau de El, pentru că ştiau că fetiţa murise. 54 Isus, (după ce i-a scos afară pe toţi,)[o] a luat-o pe fetiţă de mână şi a strigat: „Fetiţo, scoală-te!“ 55 Duhul ei s-a întors şi ea s-a ridicat imediat. Isus le-a poruncit să-i dea să mănânce. 56 Părinţii ei au rămas uimiţi. Isus le-a poruncit să nu spună nimănui ce s-a întâmplat.

8 Soon afterwards, he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of God’s Kingdom. With him were the twelve, 2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out; 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod’s steward; Susanna; and many others who served them[a] from their possessions. 4 When a great multitude came together and people from every city were coming to him, he spoke by a parable: 5 “The farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the road, and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it. 6 Other seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 Other fell amid the thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it. 8 Other fell into the good ground and grew and produced one hundred times as much fruit.” As he said these things, he called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
9 Then his disciples asked him, “What does this parable mean?”
10 He said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God’s Kingdom, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’(A)
11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the road are those who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation. 14 What fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life; and they bring no fruit to maturity. 15 Those in the good ground, these are those who with an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and produce fruit with perseverance.
16 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. 18 Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”
19 His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd. 20 Some people told him, “Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you.”
21 But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
22 Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. 23 But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water. 24 They came to him and awoke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are dying!” He awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; then they ceased, and it was calm.(B) 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Being afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, “Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”
26 Then they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn’t live in a house, but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, “What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torment me!” 29 For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
He said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered into him. 31 They begged him that he would not command them to go into the abyss.
32 Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. Then he allowed them. 33 The demons came out of the man and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.
35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who saw it told them how he who had been possessed by demons was healed. 37 All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. Then he entered into the boat and returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you.” He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
40 When Jesus returned, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 Behold, a man named Jairus came. He was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged him to come into his house, 42 for he had an only born[b] daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes pressed against him. 43 A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came behind him and touched the fringe[c] of his cloak. Immediately the flow of her blood stopped.
45 Jesus said, “Who touched me?”
When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.” 47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 He said to her, “Daughter, cheer up. Your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
49 While he still spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house came, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Don’t trouble the Teacher.”
50 But Jesus hearing it, answered him, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he came to the house, he didn’t allow anyone to enter in, except Peter, John, James, the father of the child, and her mother. 52 All were weeping and mourning her, but he said, “Don’t weep. She isn’t dead, but sleeping.”
53 They were ridiculing him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, “Child, arise!” 55 Her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. He commanded that something be given to her to eat. 56 Her parents were amazed, but he commanded them to tell no one what had been done.

The Parable of the Sower(A)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(C) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(D) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(E)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(F) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(H) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(I) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(J) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(K) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(L) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(M)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(N)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(O) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(P)
Jesus Calms the Storm(Q)(R)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(S) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(T) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(U) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(V)(W)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[b] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(X) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(Y) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(Z)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(AA) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AB) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(AC) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(AD) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AE)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(AF) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AG) for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(AH) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(AI) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(AJ) I know that power has gone out from me.”(AK)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AL) Go in peace.”(AM)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AN) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(AO) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(AP) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(AQ)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(AR) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(AS)
