Mujeres que servían a Jesús
8 Y poco [a] después, Él comenzó a recorrer las ciudades y aldeas, proclamando y anunciando las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios(A); con Él iban los doce, 2 y también algunas mujeres(B) que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malos y de enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena(C), de la que habían salido siete demonios, 3 y Juana, mujer de Chuza, mayordomo(D) de Herodes(E), y Susana, y muchas otras que de sus bienes personales contribuían al sostenimiento de ellos.
Parábola del sembrador
4 (F)Habiéndose congregado una gran multitud, y los que de varias ciudades acudían a Él, les habló por parábola: 5 El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla; y al sembrarla, una parte cayó junto al camino, y fue pisoteada y las aves del cielo se la comieron. 6 Otra parte cayó sobre la roca, y tan pronto como creció, se secó, porque no tenía humedad. 7 Otra parte cayó en medio de los espinos; y los espinos, al crecer con ella, la ahogaron. 8 Y otra parte cayó en tierra buena, y creció y produjo una cosecha a ciento por uno. Y al hablar estas cosas, Jesús exclamaba: El que tiene oídos para oír, que oiga(G).
Explicación de la parábola
9 (H)Sus discípulos le preguntaban qué quería decir esta parábola, 10 y Él dijo: A vosotros se os ha concedido conocer los misterios del reino de Dios(I), pero a los demás les hablo en parábolas, para que viendo, no vean; y oyendo, no entiendan(J). 11 La parábola es esta: la semilla es la palabra de Dios(K). 12 Y aquellos a lo largo del camino son los que han oído, pero después viene el diablo y arrebata la palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven. 13 Y aquellos sobre la roca son los que, cuando oyen, reciben la palabra con gozo; pero[b] estos no tienen raíz profunda; creen[c] por algún tiempo, y en el momento de la tentación sucumben. 14 Y la semilla que cayó entre los espinos, estos son los que han oído, y al continuar su camino son ahogados por las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de la vida, y su fruto no madura. 15 Pero la semilla en la tierra buena, estos son los que han oído la palabra con corazón recto y bueno, y la retienen, y dan fruto con su perseverancia.
16 Nadie enciende una lámpara y la cubre con una vasija, o la pone debajo de una cama, sino que la pone sobre un candelero para que los que entren vean la luz(L). 17 Pues no hay nada oculto que no haya de ser manifiesto, ni secreto que no haya de ser conocido y salga a la luz(M). 18 Por tanto, tened cuidado de cómo oís; porque al que tiene, más le será dado; y al que no tiene, aun lo que cree que tiene[d] se le quitará(N).
La madre y los hermanos de Jesús
19 (O)Entonces su madre y sus hermanos llegaron a donde Él estaba, pero no podían acercarse a Él debido al gentío. 20 Y le avisaron: Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte. 21 Pero respondiendo Él, les dijo: Mi madre y mis hermanos son estos que oyen la palabra de Dios y la hacen(P).
Jesús calma la tempestad
22 (Q)Y[e] uno de aquellos días, entró en una barca con sus discípulos, y les dijo: Pasemos al otro lado del lago(R). Y se hicieron a la mar. 23 Pero mientras ellos navegaban, Él se durmió; y una violenta tempestad[f] descendió sobre el lago(S), y comenzaron a anegarse y corrían peligro. 24 Y llegándose a Él, le despertaron, diciendo: ¡Maestro, Maestro(T), que perecemos! Y Él, levantándose, reprendió(U) al viento y a las olas embravecidas, y cesaron y sobrevino la calma. 25 Y Él les dijo: ¿Dónde está vuestra fe? Pero ellos estaban atemorizados y asombrados, diciéndose unos a otros: ¿Quién, pues, es este que aun a los vientos y al agua manda y le obedecen?
El endemoniado gadareno
26 (V)Navegaron hacia la tierra de los gadarenos[g] que está al lado opuesto de Galilea; 27 y cuando Él bajó a tierra, le salió al encuentro un hombre de la ciudad poseído por demonios, y que por mucho tiempo no se había puesto ropa alguna, ni vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros. 28 Al ver a Jesús, gritó y cayó delante de Él, y dijo en alta voz: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo[h], Jesús, Hijo del Dios(W) Altísimo? Te ruego que no me atormentes(X). 29 Porque Él mandaba al espíritu inmundo que saliera del hombre, pues muchas veces[i] se había apoderado de él, y[j] estaba atado con cadenas y grillos y bajo guardia; a pesar de todo rompía las ataduras y era impelido por el demonio a los desiertos. 30 Entonces Jesús le preguntó: ¿Cómo te llamas? Y él dijo: Legión(Y); porque muchos demonios habían entrado en él. 31 Y le rogaban que no les ordenara irse al abismo(Z). 32 Y había una piara de muchos cerdos paciendo allí en el monte; y los demonios le rogaron que les permitiera entrar en los cerdos[k]. Y Él les dio permiso. 33 Los demonios salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos; y la piara se precipitó por el despeñadero al lago(AA), y se ahogaron. 34 Y cuando los que los cuidaban vieron lo que había sucedido, huyeron y lo contaron en la ciudad y por los campos. 35 Salió entonces la gente a ver qué había sucedido; y vinieron a Jesús, y encontraron al hombre de quien habían salido los demonios, sentado a los pies de Jesús(AB), vestido y en su cabal juicio, y se llenaron de temor. 36 Y los que lo habían visto, les contaron cómo el que estaba endemoniado(AC) había sido sanado[l]. 37 Entonces toda la gente[m] de la región alrededor de los gadarenos le pidió a Jesús que se alejara de ellos, porque estaban poseídos de un gran temor. Y Él entrando a una barca, regresó. 38 (AD)Pero el hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le rogaba que le permitiera acompañarle[n]; mas Él lo despidió, diciendo: 39 Vuelve a tu casa, y cuenta cuán grandes cosas[o] Dios ha hecho por ti. Y él se fue, proclamando por toda la ciudad cuán grandes cosas[p] Jesús había hecho por él.
Jairo ruega por su hija
40 Cuando Jesús volvió, la multitud le recibió con gozo(AE), porque todos le habían estado esperando. 41 (AF)Y he aquí, llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era un oficial[q] de la sinagoga(AG); y cayendo a los pies de Jesús le rogaba que entrara a su casa; 42 porque tenía una hija única[r], como de doce años, que estaba al borde de la muerte. Pero mientras Él iba, la muchedumbre le apretaba.
Jesús sana a una mujer
43 Y una mujer que había tenido un flujo de sangre por doce años y que había gastado en médicos todo cuanto tenía[s] y no podía ser curada por nadie, 44 se acercó a Jesús por detrás y tocó el borde de su manto, y al instante cesó el flujo de su sangre. 45 Y Jesús dijo: ¿Quién es el que me ha tocado? Mientras todos lo negaban, Pedro dijo, y los que con él estaban[t]: Maestro(AH), las multitudes te aprietan y te oprimen. 46 Pero Jesús dijo: Alguien me tocó, porque me di cuenta que de mí había salido poder(AI). 47 Al ver la mujer que ella no había pasado inadvertida, se acercó temblando, y cayendo delante de Él, declaró en presencia de todo el pueblo la razón por la cual le había tocado, y cómo al instante había sido sanada. 48 Y Él le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha sanado[u](AJ); vete en paz(AK).
Jesús resucita a la hija de Jairo
49 Mientras estaba todavía hablando, vino* alguien de la casa del oficial de la sinagoga(AL), diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto; no molestes más al Maestro. 50 Pero cuando Jesús lo oyó, le respondió: No temas(AM); cree solamente, y ella será sanada[v]. 51 Y cuando Él llegó a la casa, no permitió que nadie entrara con Él sino solo Pedro, Juan y Jacobo[w], y el padre y la madre de la muchacha. 52 Todos la lloraban y se lamentaban(AN); pero Él dijo: No lloréis, porque no ha muerto, sino que duerme(AO). 53 Y se burlaban de Él, sabiendo que ella había muerto. 54 Pero Él, tomándola de la mano, clamó, diciendo: ¡Niña, levántate! 55 Entonces le volvió su espíritu, y se levantó al instante, y Él mandó que le dieran de comer. 56 Y sus padres estaban asombrados; pero Él les encargó que no dijeran a nadie(AP) lo que había sucedido.

Parábola del sembrador(A)
8 Después de esto, Jesús estuvo recorriendo los pueblos y las aldeas, proclamando las buenas noticias del reino de Dios. Lo acompañaban los doce 2 y también algunas mujeres que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malignos y de enfermedades: María, a la que llamaban Magdalena y de la que habían salido siete demonios; 3 Juana, esposa de Cuza, el administrador de Herodes; Susana y muchas más que los ayudaban con sus propios recursos.
4 De cada pueblo salía gente para ver a Jesús y cuando se reunió una gran multitud, él contó esta parábola: 5 «Un sembrador salió a sembrar. Al esparcir las semillas, una parte cayó junto al camino; fue pisoteada y los pájaros se la comieron. 6 Otra parte cayó sobre las piedras y cuando brotó, las plantas se secaron por falta de humedad. 7 Otra parte cayó entre espinos que, al crecer junto con las semillas, ahogaron las plantas. 8 Pero otra parte cayó en buen terreno; así que brotó y produjo una cosecha del ciento por uno».
Dicho esto, exclamó: «El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga».
9 Sus discípulos preguntaron cuál era el significado de esta parábola. 10 Jesús respondió:
«A ustedes se les ha concedido conocer los misterios del reino de Dios; pero a los demás se les habla por medio de parábolas para que
»“aunque miren, no vean;
aunque oigan, no entiendan”.[a]
11 »Este es el significado de la parábola: La semilla es la palabra de Dios. 12 Los que están junto al camino son los que oyen, pero luego viene el diablo y les quita la palabra del corazón, no sea que crean y se salven. 13 Los que están sobre las piedras son los que reciben la palabra con alegría cuando la oyen, pero no tienen raíz. Estos creen por algún tiempo, pero se apartan cuando llega la prueba. 14 La parte que cayó entre espinos son los que oyen, pero los ahogan las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de esta vida, y no maduran. 15 Pero la parte que cayó en buen terreno son los que oyen la palabra con corazón noble y bueno, la retienen y, como perseveran, producen una buena cosecha.
Una lámpara en una repisa
16 »Nadie enciende una lámpara para después cubrirla con una vasija o ponerla debajo de la cama, sino para ponerla en un candelero, a fin de que los que entren tengan luz. 17 Porque no hay nada escondido que no llegue a descubrirse ni nada oculto que no llegue a conocerse públicamente. 18 Por lo tanto, pongan mucha atención. Al que tiene se le dará más; al que no tiene hasta lo que cree tener se le quitará».

19 La madre y los hermanos de Jesús fueron a verlo, pero, como había mucha gente, no lograban acercársele.
20 —Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte —le avisaron.
21 Pero él contestó:
—Mi madre y mis hermanos son los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la ponen en práctica.
Jesús calma la tormenta(C)
22 Un día subió Jesús con sus discípulos a una barca.
—Crucemos al otro lado del lago —dijo.
Así que partieron, 23 y mientras navegaban, él se durmió. Entonces se desató una tormenta sobre el lago, de modo que la barca comenzó a inundarse y corrían gran peligro.
24 Los discípulos fueron a despertarlo.
—¡Maestro, Maestro, nos vamos a ahogar! —gritaron.
Él se levantó y reprendió al viento y a las olas; la tormenta se apaciguó y todo quedó tranquilo.
25 —¿Dónde está la fe de ustedes? —preguntó a sus discípulos.
Con temor y asombro ellos se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es este que manda aun a los vientos y al agua, y le obedecen?».
Liberación de un endemoniado(D)(E)
26 Navegaron hasta la región de los gerasenos,[b] que está al otro lado del lago, frente a Galilea. 27 Al desembarcar Jesús, un endemoniado que venía del pueblo salió a su encuentro. Hacía mucho tiempo que este hombre no se vestía; tampoco vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros. 28 Cuando vio a Jesús, dio un grito y se arrojó a sus pies. Entonces exclamó con fuerza:
—¿Por qué te entrometes, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Te ruego que no me atormentes!
29 Es que Jesús había ordenado al espíritu maligno que saliera del hombre. Se había apoderado de él muchas veces y, aunque le sujetaban los pies y las manos con cadenas y lo mantenían bajo custodia, rompía las cadenas y el demonio lo arrastraba a lugares solitarios.
30 —¿Cómo te llamas? —le preguntó Jesús.
—Legión —respondió, ya que habían entrado en él muchos demonios.
31 Y estos suplicaban a Jesús que no los mandara al abismo. 32 En una colina estaba alimentándose una manada de muchos cerdos. Entonces los demonios rogaron a Jesús que los dejara entrar en ellos. Así que él les dio permiso. 33 Cuando los demonios salieron del hombre, entraron en los cerdos; entonces la manada se precipitó al lago por el despeñadero y se ahogó.
34 Al ver lo sucedido, los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron y avisaron en el pueblo y por los campos, 35 por lo que la gente salió a ver lo que había pasado. Llegaron adonde estaba Jesús y encontraron, sentado a sus pies, al hombre de quien habían salido los demonios. Cuando lo vieron vestido y en su sano juicio, tuvieron miedo. 36 Los que habían presenciado estas cosas contaron a la gente cómo el endemoniado había sido sanado. 37 Entonces toda la gente de la región de los gerasenos pidió a Jesús que se fuera de allí, porque les había entrado mucho miedo. Así que él subió a la barca para irse.
38 Ahora bien, el hombre de quien habían salido los demonios rogaba que le permitiera acompañarlo, pero Jesús lo despidió y dijo:
39 —Vuelve a tu casa y cuenta todo lo que Dios ha hecho por ti.
Así que el hombre se fue y proclamó por todo el pueblo lo mucho que Jesús había hecho por él.
Una niña muerta y una mujer enferma(F)
40 Cuando Jesús regresó, la multitud se alegró de verlo, pues todos estaban esperándolo. 41 En esto llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga. Se arrojó a los pies de Jesús y le suplicó que fuera a su casa 42 porque su única hija, de unos doce años, estaba muriendo.
Jesús se puso en camino y las multitudes se agolpaban sobre él. 43 Había entre la gente una mujer que hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias,[c] sin que nadie pudiera sanarla. Había gastado todo lo que tenía en médicos. 44 Ella se le acercó por detrás, tocó el borde de su manto y al instante cesó su hemorragia.
45 —¿Quién me ha tocado? —preguntó Jesús.
Como todos negaban haberlo tocado, Pedro le dijo:
—Maestro, son multitudes las que te aprietan y te oprimen.
46 —No, alguien me ha tocado —respondió Jesús—; yo sé que de mí ha salido poder.
47 La mujer, al ver que no podía pasar inadvertida, se acercó temblando y se arrojó a sus pies. En presencia de toda la gente, contó por qué lo había tocado y cómo había sido sanada al instante.
48 —¡Hija, tu fe te ha sanado! —dijo Jesús—. Vete en paz.
49 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando alguien llegó de la casa de Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, para decirle:
—Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro.
50 Al oír esto, Jesús dijo a Jairo:
—No tengas miedo; nada más cree y ella será sanada.
51 Cuando llegó a la casa de Jairo, no dejó que nadie entrara con él, excepto Pedro, Juan y Santiago, y también el padre y la madre de la niña. 52 Todos estaban llorando muy afligidos por ella.
—Dejen de llorar —dijo Jesús—. No está muerta, sino dormida.
53 Entonces ellos empezaron a burlarse de él porque sabían que estaba muerta. 54 Pero él la tomó de la mano y dijo:
—¡Niña, levántate!
55 Ella recobró la vida[d] y al instante se levantó. Jesús mandó a darle de comer. 56 Los padres se quedaron atónitos, pero él les advirtió que no contaran a nadie lo que había sucedido.

8 And it came about afterwards that he was traveling through every shtetl and village preaching and proclaiming the Besuras HaGeulah of the Malchut Hashem; and the Shneym Asar were with Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach.
2 And there were some nashim who had received refuah from ruchot raot and machlot: Miryam (called Magdalit), from whom shivah shedim had gone out;
3 And Yochanah the wife of Kuza, the steward of Herod; Shoshanah, and many others who were giving maamadot (contributions) for Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach from their private means.
4 Now when a large multitude was coming together and the ones in every shtetl were making their derech to him, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach spoke by way of a mashal:
5 The one sowing went out to sow his seed; and as he sows, some [seeds] fell beside the road; and it was trampled upon, and the birds of the air devoured it.
6 And other seed fell upon the rock, and as soon as it grew up, it dried up because it has no moisture.
7 And other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it.
8 And other seed fell in the adamah tovah (good ground) and, having grown up, produced pri a hundredfold. As Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said these things, he was calling out, The one having oznayim (ears) to hear, let him hear.
9 Now Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim began questioning him as to what this mashal might be.
10 And he said, To you it has been granted to have daas of the razei Malchut Hashem (mysteries of the Kingdom of G-d), but to the others I speak in mashalim, in order that YIRU they may not see and VSHIMU they may not have binah. [YESHAYAH 6:9]
11 Now the mashal is this: The seed is the dvar Hashem.
12 The ones beside the road are the ones having heard, then Hasatan comes and takes away the dvar Hashem from their levavot, so that they may not have emunah (faith) and come to Yeshua’at Eloheinu.
13 Now the ones upon the rock are those who when they hear, with simcha they receive the dvar; but these have no shoresh (root). They have emunah for a while, but in time of nisayon (trial, temptation), they become shmad and they fall away.
14 Now the seed which fell among thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their derech, they are choked by the deagot (worries, anxieties) and ashires (riches) and taanugot (pleasures) of the Olam Hazeh and they bring no pri to maturity.
15 Now the one in the adamah tova (good ground), these are those who have heard the dvar Hashem with a lev (heart) tov and yashir (straight), and retain the dvar Hashem and bear pri with zitzfleisch (patience).
16 Now no one having lit a menorah covers it with a jar or places it under a bed; but he places the menorah on the shulchan, in order that the ones entering may see the ohr (light).
17 For nothing is nistar (hidden) which will not become nikar (evident), nor anything hidden which shall not be made known and come to ohr (light).
18 Therefore, be shomer how you listen, for whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.
19 And the Em of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach and his achim came to him, and they were not able to get to him because of the multitude.
20 And it was announced to him, Your Em and your achim have been standing outside waiting to see you.
21 But in reply, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, My Em and my achim are these: the ones who are shomei dvar Hashem (hearers of the word of Hashem) and also shomrei dvar Hashem (keepers guarding, doing the word of Hashem).
22 Now it came about on one of those yamim when he and his talmidim embarked into a sirah that he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched out.
23 But as they were sailing, he fell asleep; and a driving storm of wind descended upon the lake, and they began to be swamped and began to be in a situation of pikuach nefesh (a matter of life and death).
24 And they came and woke him up, saying, Adoneinu, Adoneinu, we are perishing! And having been awakened, he rebuked the wind and the rough waves, and the storm ceased. And all became calm. [TEHILLIM 107:29]
25 And Moshiach said to them, Where is your emunah? And they were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the sea and they obey him? [MISHLE 30:4]
26 And they sailed down to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite the Galil.
27 And as Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach disembarked upon the shore, he was met from the town by a certain ish possessed by shedim; and the ish had not worn clothing for a long time and was not living in a bais but among the kevarim (graves).
28 And having seen Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach and having cried out, he fell down before him and said in a kol gadol, Mah li ulchah, Yehoshua Ben El Elyon? (What to me and to you, Yehoshua Son of the Most High G-d?) I beg you, do not torment me.
29 For Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach had been commanding the ruach hatumah (unclean spirit, shed) to come out of the ish. For many times it had seized him; and he was restrained with chains and imprisoned by shackles and, breaking apart the bonds, he was being driven by the shed into the wilderness places.
30 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach questioned him, What is your name? And he said, Legion. For many shedim had entered him.
31 And the shedim were entreating Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, lest he might command them to depart into the abyss.
32 Now there was a herd of many chazirim feeding there on the mountain. And the shedim begged him that he might permit them to enter into those chazirim. And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach permitted the shedim.
33 And the shedim came out from the ish, and entered the chazirim, and the herd of chazirim rushed down the bank into the lake, and were drowned.
34 And when the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it in the ir (town) and countryside.
35 And the people went out to see what had happened; and they came to him and found the ish from whom the shedim had gone out, and the ish was clothed and in his right mind, sitting at the feet of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach; and they were afraid.
36 And the edei reiyah reported to the people how the one possessed with shedim was given refuah.
37 And all the multitude of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach to depart from them; because they were being filled with pachad gadol. So he embarked into a sirah and returned.
38 And the ish from whom the shedim had gone out was begging Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach that he might accompany him. But he sent him away, saying, Return
39 to your bais and tell what great things G-d has done for you. And the man went away, preaching throughout the whole town, what great things Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach had done for him.
40 Now Moshiach returns, and the multitude gave him kabbalat panim, for they had all been expecting him.
41 And hinei there came an ish named Ya’ir and this one was one of the Roshei Beit HaKnesset, and he fell at the feet of Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, pleading with him to come to his bais;
42 For he had a bat yachidah (only daughter) about twelve years in age, and she was dying. But as Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach went, the multitudes were pressing around him,
43 And an isha having a flow of dahm for twelve years, and who had spent all she had on rofim (physicians) but could not receive refuah from anyone, [VAYIKRA 15:25-30]
44 Approached Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach from behind, and she touched the tzitzit of his garment; and ofen ort (immediately) the flow of her dahm stopped.
45 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said, Who is the one who touched me? And while everyone was denying it, Kefa said, Adoneinu, the multitudes surround you and are pressing against you.
46 But he said, Someone did touch me, for I had daas that koach had gone out from me.
47 And when the isha saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before him, and declared before the people the reason she touched him, and how ofen ort (immediately) she received refuah.
48 And he said to her, Biti (my daughter), your emunah brought your refuah. L’chi l’shalom (Go in shalom).
49 While he was still speaking, someone comes from the bais (house) of the Rosh Kehillah [Yair], saying, Your bat has died. Do not cause a shter (bother) for the rebbe.
50 But when he heard this, he answered him, Do not be afraid; only have emunah, and she will receive refuah.
51 And having come to the bais, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach did not permit anyone to enter with him, except Kefa and Yochanan and Yaakov, and the yaldah’s Abba and Em.
52 And all were weeping and mourning for the yaldah; but he said, Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is sleeping.
53 And they were making leitzonus (fun) of him, having had daas that she was a nifteret (a deceased person).
54 But Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach took her by the hand and called out, saying, Yaldah, get up!
55 And her ruach returned, and she got up ofen ort and Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach gave orders that something be given to her to eat.
56 And her horim (parents) were amazed; but Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach instructed them to tell no one what had happened.

The Parable of the Sower(A)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(C) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(D) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(E)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(F) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(H) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(I) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(J) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(K) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(L) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(M)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(N)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(O) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(P)
Jesus Calms the Storm(Q)(R)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(S) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(T) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(U) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(V)(W)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[b] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(X) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(Y) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(Z)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(AA) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AB) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(AC) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(AD) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AE)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(AF) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AG) for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(AH) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(AI) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(AJ) I know that power has gone out from me.”(AK)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AL) Go in peace.”(AM)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AN) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(AO) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(AP) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(AQ)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(AR) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(AS)
