Os primeiros discípulos
(Mt 4.18-22; Mc 1.16-20)
5 Certo dia, Jesus estava perto do lago de Genesaré[a] e uma multidão se ajuntou ao seu redor, apertando-o para ouvir a mensagem de Deus. 2 Jesus, então, viu dois barcos perto da praia. Os pescadores tinham desembarcado e estavam lavando as suas redes. 3 Ele entrou no barco que era de Simão e lhe pediu que afastasse um pouco o barco da praia. Depois ele se sentou e começou a ensinar a multidão.
4 Quando ele acabou de falar, disse a Simão:
—Leve o barco para onde o lago é mais fundo. E você e seus companheiros joguem as redes para pescar.
5 Simão lhe disse:
—Mestre, nós trabalhamos a noite inteira e não pegamos nada. Mas como me manda jogar as redes, eu obedecerei.
6 Quando jogaram as redes, pegaram tantos peixes que as redes deles estavam quase arrebentando. 7 Então, fizeram sinais aos companheiros do outro barco para vir ajudá-los. Eles vieram e encheram os dois barcos de tal maneira que quase se afundaram.
8 Simão Pedro, quando viu isso, se ajoelhou aos pés de Jesus e lhe disse:
—Afaste-se de mim, Senhor, pois eu sou um pecador!
9 Ele disse isso porque tanto ele como os outros estavam muito assustados com a quantidade de peixes que tinham apanhado. 10 Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu e companheiros de Simão, também estavam muito assustados. Então Jesus disse a Simão:
—Não tenha medo! De agora em diante você será pescador de gente.
11 Eles então arrastaram os barcos para a terra, deixaram tudo, e o seguiram.
Jesus cura um homem com lepra
(Mt 8.1-4; Mc 1.40-45)
12 E aconteceu que, enquanto Jesus ensinava numa vila, lá também apareceu um homem coberto de lepra. Ao ver Jesus, o homem se ajoelhou e encostou o seu rosto na terra. Então lhe disse:
—Eu sei que o senhor pode me curar se quiser.
13 Jesus estendeu a sua mão, tocou nele e lhe disse:
—Eu quero! Fique curado.
E no mesmo instante a lepra desapareceu. 14 Jesus, então, lhe deu esta ordem:
—Não diga nada disto a ninguém, mas apresente-se ao sacerdote.[b] Depois ofereça o sacrifício que a lei de Moisés manda que seja oferecido pela sua cura. Faça isso para provar que está curado.
15 Mas a sua fama se espalhava cada vez mais e grandes multidões se juntavam para ouvi-lo e para serem curadas das suas doenças. 16 Ele, porém, sempre que podia ia orar em lugares onde poderia estar só.
Jesus cura um paralítico
(Mt 9.1-8; Mc 2.1-12)
17 Um dia, quando Jesus estava ensinando, se achavam presentes fariseus e professores da lei, vindos de todas as vilas da Galileia e da Judeia e da cidade de Jerusalém. E o poder do Senhor estava com Jesus para realizar curas. 18 Alguns homens chegaram trazendo um paralítico numa maca e tentavam levá-lo para perto de Jesus. 19 E, como não tinham conseguido entrar com ele por causa da multidão, subiram no telhado e, por entre as telhas, abaixaram a maca no meio das pessoas que estavam ali e o puseram diante de Jesus. 20 Ao ver a fé que eles tinham, Jesus disse ao paralítico:
—Homem, os seus pecados estão perdoados!
21 Os professores da lei e os fariseus começaram a perguntar a si mesmos:
—Quem é este homem que está insultando a Deus com estas palavras? Só Deus pode perdoar pecados!
22 Jesus sabia o que eles estavam pensando e disse:
—Por que vocês estão pensando essas coisas? 23 Talvez vocês pensem que é mais fácil lhe dizer: “Os seus pecados estão perdoados”, porque isso não pode provar que eu tenho autoridade para perdoar os pecados das pessoas. Se eu, porém, lhe dizer: “Levante-se e ande!” 24 e assim acontecer, então ficará demonstrado que o Filho do Homem tem autoridade na terra para perdoar pecados. E então disse ao paralítico:
—Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e vá para casa!
25 E o homem se levantou nesse mesmo instante, pegou sua maca e foi para casa louvando a Deus. 26 Todos ficaram maravilhados e com muito medo, e por isso louvavam a Deus, dizendo:
—Que coisa maravilhosa nós vimos hoje!
Jesus chama Levi
(Mt 9.9-13; Mc 2.13-17)
27 Depois disto, Jesus saiu e viu um cobrador de impostos chamado Levi. Ele estava sentado no lugar onde as pessoas pagavam os seus impostos. Jesus lhe disse:
—Siga-me!
28 Levi se levantou, deixou tudo, e o seguiu. 29 Levi deu um grande banquete em sua casa para Jesus. Muitos cobradores de impostos e outras pessoas estavam comendo com eles. 30 E os professores da lei e os fariseus começaram a se queixar com os discípulos de Jesus:
—Por que vocês comem e bebem com cobradores de impostos e pecadores?
31 E Jesus lhes respondeu:
—Não são os que têm saúde que precisam de médico, mas sim os que estão doentes. 32 Por isso eu não vim chamar aqueles que se creem justos, mas sim os pecadores para que mudem a sua maneira de viver.
Jesus ensina sobre o jejum
(Mt 9.14-17; Mc 2.18-22)
33 Eles lhe disseram:
—Os discípulos de João jejuam frequentemente e fazem orações e o mesmo acontece com os discípulos dos fariseus. Os seus discípulos, porém, estão sempre comendo e bebendo!
34 Jesus lhes respondeu:
—Por acaso vocês podem obrigar os convidados do noivo a jejuarem enquanto o noivo estiver com eles? 35 Claro que não! Mas virá o tempo em que o noivo será levado para longe deles. Então eles jejuarão.
36 Jesus lhes contou uma parábola:
—Ninguém corta um pedaço de roupa nova para remendar numa roupa velha. Se fizer isso, além de estragar a roupa nova, o pedaço novo não vai combinar com a roupa velha. 37 Ninguém coloca vinho novo em odres velhos. Se fizer isso, o vinho novo arrebentará os odres velhos, o vinho se derramará e os odres ficarão arruinados. 38 Deve-se colocar vinho novo em odres novos. 39 Ninguém, depois de beber vinho velho, quer vinho novo, pois diz: “O vinho velho é melhor!”

5 Estando Jesus à beira do lago de Genesaré,[a] grandes multidões se apertavam em volta dele para ouvir a palavra de Deus. 2 Ele notou que, junto à praia, havia dois barcos vazios, deixados por pescadores que lavavam suas redes. 3 Entrou num dos barcos e pediu a Simão,[b] seu dono, que o afastasse um pouco da praia. Então sentou-se no barco e dali ensinou as multidões.
4 Quando terminou de falar, disse a Simão: “Agora vá para onde é mais fundo e lancem as redes para pescar”.
5 Simão respondeu: “Mestre, trabalhamos duro a noite toda e não pegamos nada. Mas, por ser o senhor quem nos pede, vou lançar as redes novamente”. 6 Dessa vez, as redes ficaram tão cheias de peixes que começaram a se rasgar. 7 Então pediram ajuda aos companheiros do outro barco, e logo os dois barcos estavam tão cheios de peixes que quase afundaram.
8 Quando Simão Pedro se deu conta do que havia acontecido, caiu de joelhos diante de Jesus e disse: “Por favor, Senhor, afaste-se de mim, porque sou homem pecador”. 9 Pois ele e seus companheiros ficaram espantados com a quantidade de peixes que haviam pescado, 10 assim como seus sócios, Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu.
Jesus respondeu a Simão: “Não tenha medo! De agora em diante, você será pescador de gente”. 11 E, assim que chegaram à praia, deixaram tudo e seguiram Jesus.
Jesus cura um leproso
12 Num povoado, Jesus encontrou um homem coberto de lepra. Quando o homem viu Jesus, prostrou-se com o rosto em terra e suplicou para ser curado, dizendo: “Se o senhor quiser, pode me curar e me deixar limpo”.
13 Jesus estendeu a mão e o tocou. “Eu quero”, respondeu. “Seja curado e fique limpo!” No mesmo instante, a lepra desapareceu. 14 Então Jesus o instruiu a não contar a ninguém o que havia acontecido. “Vá e apresente-se ao sacerdote para que ele o examine”, ordenou. “Leve a oferta que a lei de Moisés exige pela sua purificação. Isso servirá como testemunho.”[c]
15 Mas as notícias a seu respeito se espalhavam ainda mais, e grandes multidões vinham para ouvi-lo e para ser curadas de suas enfermidades. 16 Ele, porém, se retirava para lugares isolados, a fim de orar.
Jesus cura um paralítico
17 Certo dia, enquanto Jesus ensinava, alguns fariseus e mestres da lei estavam sentados por perto. Eles vinham de todos os povoados da Galileia, da Judeia e de Jerusalém. E o poder do Senhor para curar estava sobre Jesus.
18 Alguns homens vieram carregando um paralítico numa maca. Tentaram levá-lo para dentro da casa, até Jesus, 19 mas não conseguiram, por causa da multidão. Então subiram ao topo da casa e removeram uma parte do teto. Em seguida, baixaram o paralítico na maca até o meio da multidão, bem na frente dele. 20 Ao ver a fé que eles tinham, Jesus disse ao paralítico: “Homem, seus pecados estão perdoados”.
21 Mas os fariseus e mestres da lei pensavam: “Quem ele pensa que é? Isso é blasfêmia! Somente Deus pode perdoar pecados!”.
22 Jesus, sabendo o que pensavam, perguntou: “Por que vocês questionam essas coisas em seu coração? 23 O que é mais fácil dizer: ‘Seus pecados estão perdoados?’ ou ‘Levante-se e ande’? 24 Mas eu lhes mostrarei que o Filho do Homem tem autoridade na terra para perdoar pecados”. Então disse ao paralítico: “Levante-se, pegue sua maca e vá para casa”.
25 De imediato, à vista de todos, o homem se levantou, pegou sua maca e foi para casa louvando a Deus. 26 Todos ficaram muitos admirados e, cheios de temor, louvaram a Deus, exclamando: “Hoje vimos coisas maravilhosas!”.
Jesus chama Levi
27 Depois disso, Jesus saiu da cidade e viu um cobrador de impostos chamado Levi[d] sentado no local onde se coletavam impostos. “Siga-me”, disse-lhe Jesus, 28 e Levi se levantou, deixou tudo e o seguiu.
29 Mais tarde, Levi ofereceu um banquete em sua casa, em honra de Jesus. Muitos cobradores de impostos e outros convidados comeram com eles, 30 mas os fariseus e mestres da lei se queixaram aos discípulos: “Por que vocês comem e bebem com cobradores de impostos e pecadores?”.
31 Jesus lhes respondeu: “As pessoas saudáveis não precisam de médico, mas sim os doentes. 32 Não vim para chamar os justos, mas sim os pecadores, para que se arrependam”.
Discussão sobre o jejum
33 Algumas pessoas disseram a Jesus: “Os discípulos de João Batista jejuam e oram com frequência, e os discípulos dos fariseus também. Por que os seus vivem comendo e bebendo?”.
34 Jesus respondeu: “Por acaso os convidados de um casamento jejuam enquanto festejam com o noivo? 35 Um dia, porém, o noivo lhes será tirado, e então jejuarão”.
36 Jesus também lhes apresentou a seguinte ilustração: “Ninguém rasgaria um pedaço de tecido de uma roupa nova para remendar uma roupa velha. Se o fizesse, estragaria a roupa nova, e o remendo não se ajustaria à roupa velha.
37 “E ninguém colocaria vinho novo em velhos recipientes de couro. Os recipientes velhos se arrebentariam, deixando vazar o vinho e estragando o recipiente. 38 Vinho novo deve ser guardado em recipientes novos. 39 E ninguém que bebe o vinho velho escolhe beber o vinho novo, pois diz: ‘O vinho velho é melhor’”.

2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.
28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.
30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?
34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples(A)
5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.(B) 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.(C)
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”(D)
5 Simon answered, “Master,(E) we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.(F) But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.(G) 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”(H) 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid;(I) from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.(J)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(K)
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[b](L) When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone,(M) but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded(N) for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more,(O) so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.(P)
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(Q)
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law(R) were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.(S) 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”(T)
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(U)
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(V) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.(W) They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(X)
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,”(Y) Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.(Z)
29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors(AA) and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect(AB) complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”(AC)
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”(AD)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(AE)
33 They said to him, “John’s disciples(AF) often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”
34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom(AG) fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them;(AH) in those days they will fast.”
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”
