24 Y EL primer día de la semana, muy de mañana, vinieron al sepulcro, trayendo las drogas aromáticas que habían aparejado, y algunas otras mujeres con ellas.
2 Y hallaron la piedra revuelta del sepulcro.
3 Y entrando, no hallaron el cuerpo del Señor Jesús.
4 Y aconteció, que estando ellas espantadas de esto, he aquí se pararon junto á ellas dos varones con vestiduras resplandecientes;
5 Y como tuviesen ellas temor, y bajasen el rostro á tierra, les dijeron: ¿Por qué buscáis entre los muertos al que vive?
6 No está aquí, mas ha resucitado: acordaos de lo que os habló, cuando aun estaba en Galilea,
7 Diciendo: Es menester que el Hijo del hombre sea entregado en manos de hombres pecadores, y que sea crucificado, y resucite al tercer día.
8 Entonces ellas se acordaron de sus palabras,
9 Y volviendo del sepulcro, dieron nuevas de todas estas cosas á los once, y á todos los demás.
10 Y eran María Magdalena, y Juana, y María madre de Jacobo, y las demás con ellas, las que dijeron estas cosas á los apóstoles.
11 Mas á ellos les parecían como locura las palabras de ellas, y no las creyeron.
12 Pero levantándose Pedro, corrió al sepulcro: y como miró dentro, vió solos los lienzos echados; y se fué maravillándose de lo que había sucedido.
13 Y he aquí, dos de ellos iban el mismo día á una aldea que estaba de Jerusalem sesenta estadios, llamada Emmaús.
14 E iban hablando entre sí de todas aquellas cosas que habían acaecido.
15 Y aconteció que yendo hablando entre sí, y preguntándose el uno al otro, el mismo Jesús se llegó, é iba con ellos juntamente.
16 Mas los ojos de ellos estaban embargados, para que no le conociesen.
17 Y díjoles: ¿Qué pláticas son estas que tratáis entre vosotros andando, y estáis tristes?
18 Y respondiendo el uno, que se llamaba Cleofas, le dijo: ¿Tú sólo peregrino eres en Jerusalem, y no has sabido las cosas que en ella han acontecido estos días?
19 Entonces él les dijo: ¿Qué cosas? Y ellos le dijeron: De Jesús Nazareno, el cual fué varón profeta, poderoso en obra y en palabra delante de Dios y de todo el pueblo;
20 Y cómo le entregaron los príncipes de los sacerdotes y nuestros príncipes á condenación de muerte, y le crucificaron.
21 Mas nosotros esperábamos que él era el que había de redimir á Israel: y ahora sobre todo esto, hoy es el tercer día que esto ha acontecido.
22 Aunque también unas mujeres de los nuestros nos han espantado, las cuales antes del día fueron al sepulcro:
23 Y no hallando su cuerpo, vinieron diciendo que también habían visto visión de ángeles, los cuales dijeron que él vive.
24 Y fueron algunos de los nuestros al sepulcro, y hallaron así como las mujeres habían dicho; más á él no le vieron.
25 Entonces él les dijo: Oh insensatos, y tardos de corazón para creer todo lo que los profetas han dicho!
26 ¿No era necesario que el Cristo padeciera estas cosas, y que entrara en su gloria?
27 Y comenzando desde Moisés, y de todos los profetas, declarábales en todas las Escrituras lo que de él decían.
28 Y llegaron á la aldea á donde iban: y él hizo como que iba más lejos.
29 Mas ellos le detuvieron por fuerza, diciendo: Quédate con nosotros, porque se hace tarde, y el día ya ha declinado. Entró pues á estarse con ellos.
30 Y aconteció, que estando sentado con ellos á la mesa, tomando el pan, bendijo, y partió, y dióles.
31 Entonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ellos, y le conocieron; mas él se desapareció de los ojos de ellos.
32 Y decían el uno al otro: ¿No ardía nuestro corazón en nosotros, mientras nos hablaba en el camino, y cuando nos abría las Escrituras?
33 Y levantándose en la misma hora, tornáronse á Jerusalem, y hallaron á los once reunidos, y á los que estaban con ellos.
34 Que decían: Ha resucitado el Señor verdaderamente, y ha aparecido á Simón.
35 Entonces ellos contaban las cosas que les habían acontecido en el camino, y cómo había sido conocido de ellos al partir el pan.
36 Y entre tanto que ellos hablaban estas cosas, él se puso en medio de ellos, y les dijo: Paz á vosotros.
37 Entonces ellos espantados y asombrados, pensaban que veían espíritu.
38 Mas él les dice: ¿Por qué estáis turbados, y suben pensamientos á vuestros corazones?
39 Mirad mis manos y mis pies, que yo mismo soy: palpad, y ved; que el espíritu ni tiene carne ni huesos, como veis que yo tengo.
40 Y en diciendo esto, les mostró las manos y los pies.
41 Y no creyéndolo aún ellos de gozo, y maravillados, díjoles: ¿Tenéis aquí algo de comer?
42 Entonces ellos le presentaron parte de un pez asado, y un panal de miel.
43 Y él tomó, y comió delante de ellos.
44 Y él les dijo: Estas son las palabras que os hablé, estando aún con vosotros: que era necesario que se cumpliesen todas las cosas que están escritas de mí en la ley de Moisés, y en los profetas, y en los salmos.
45 Entonces les abrió el sentido, para que entendiesen las Escrituras;
46 Y díjoles: Así está escrito, y así fué necesario que el Cristo padeciese, y resucitase de los muertos al tercer día;
47 Y que se predicase en su nombre el arrepentimiento y la remisión de pecados en todas las naciones, comenzando de Jerusalem.
48 Y vosotros sois testigos de estas cosas.
49 Y he aquí, yo enviaré la promesa de mi Padre sobre vosotros: mas vosotros asentad en la ciudad de Jerusalem, hasta que seáis investidos de potencia de lo alto.
50 Y sacólos fuera hasta Bethania, y alzando sus manos, los bendijo.
51 Y aconteció que bendiciéndolos, se fué de ellos; y era llevado arriba al cielo.
52 Y ellos, después de haberle adorado, se volvieron á Jerusalem con gran gozo;
53 Y estaban siempre en el templo, alabando y bendiciendo á Dios. Amén.

¡Él está vivo!
24 El domingo, al amanecer, las mujeres fueron a la tumba de Jesús para llevar los perfumes que habían preparado. 2 Cuando llegaron, vieron que la piedra que tapaba la entrada de la tumba ya no estaba en su lugar. 3 Entonces entraron en la tumba, pero no encontraron el cuerpo de Jesús. 4 Ellas no sabían qué hacer ni qué pensar.
De pronto, dos hombres se pararon junto a ellas. Tenían ropa muy blanca y brillante. 5 Las mujeres tuvieron tanto miedo que se inclinaron hasta tocar el suelo con su frente. Los hombres les dijeron:
«¿Por qué buscan entre los muertos al que está vivo? 6-7 Recuerden lo que Jesús, el Hijo del hombre, les dijo cuando todavía estaba en la región de Galilea. Él les dijo que sería entregado a hombres malvados que lo matarían en una cruz, pero que al tercer día iba a resucitar.»
8 Ellas recordaron esas palabras, 9-11 y salieron de aquel lugar. Cuando llegaron a donde estaban los once apóstoles y los otros discípulos, les contaron lo que había pasado. Pero ellos no creyeron lo que ellas decían, porque les parecía una tontería.
Entre las mujeres estaban María Magdalena, Juana y María, la madre del discípulo que se llamaba Santiago.
12 Sin embargo, Pedro salió corriendo hacia la tumba. Al llegar, miró hacia dentro, pero sólo vio las telas con que habían envuelto el cuerpo de Jesús. Entonces regresó a la casa, asombrado por lo que había pasado.

13 Ese mismo día, dos de los seguidores de Jesús iban a Emaús, un pueblo a once kilómetros de Jerusalén.
14 Mientras conversaban de todo lo que había pasado, 15 Jesús se les acercó y empezó a caminar con ellos, 16 pero ellos no lo reconocieron. 17 Jesús les preguntó:
—¿De qué están hablando por el camino?
Los dos discípulos se detuvieron; sus caras se veían tristes, 18 y uno de ellos, llamado Cleofás, le dijo a Jesús:
—¿Eres tú el único en Jerusalén que no sabe lo que ha pasado en estos días?
19 Jesús preguntó:
—¿Qué ha pasado?
Ellos le respondieron:
—¡Lo que le han hecho a Jesús, el profeta de Nazaret! Para Dios y para la gente, Jesús hablaba y actuaba con mucho poder. 20 Pero los sacerdotes principales y nuestros líderes lograron que los romanos lo mataran, clavándolo en una cruz. 21 Nosotros esperábamos que él fuera el libertador de Israel. Pero ya hace tres días que murió.
22 »Esta mañana, algunas de las mujeres de nuestro grupo nos dieron un gran susto. Ellas fueron muy temprano a la tumba, 23 y nos dijeron que no encontraron el cuerpo de Jesús. También nos contaron que unos ángeles se les aparecieron, y les dijeron que Jesús está vivo. 24 Algunos hombres del grupo fueron a la tumba y encontraron todo tal como las mujeres habían dicho. Pero ellos tampoco vieron a Jesús.
25 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Tan tontos son ustedes, que no pueden entender? ¿Por qué son tan lentos para creer todo lo que enseñaron los profetas? 26 ¿No sabían ustedes que el Mesías tenía que sufrir antes de subir al cielo para reinar?
27 Luego Jesús les explicó todo lo que la Biblia decía acerca de él. Empezó con los libros de la ley de Moisés, y siguió con los libros de los profetas.
28 Cuando se acercaron al pueblo de Emaús, Jesús se despidió de ellos. 29 Pero los dos discípulos insistieron:
—¡Quédate con nosotros! Ya es muy tarde, y pronto el camino estará oscuro.
Jesús se fue a la casa con ellos. 30 Cuando se sentaron a comer, Jesús tomó el pan, dio gracias a Dios, lo partió y se lo dio a ellos. 31 Entonces los dos discípulos pudieron reconocerlo, pero Jesús desapareció. 32 Los dos se dijeron: «¿No es verdad que, cuando él nos hablaba en el camino y nos explicaba la Biblia, sentíamos como que un fuego ardía en nuestros corazones?»
33 En ese mismo momento, regresaron a Jerusalén. Allí encontraron reunidos a los once apóstoles, junto con los otros miembros del grupo. 34 Los que estaban allí les dijeron: «¡Jesús resucitó! ¡Se le apareció a Pedro!»
35 Los dos discípulos contaron a los del grupo todo lo que había pasado en el camino a Emaús, y cómo habían reconocido a Jesús cuando él partió el pan.
Jesús se aparece a los discípulos
36 Todavía estaban los dos contando su historia, cuando Jesús se presentó en medio de todos y los saludó: «¡Reciban la paz de Dios!»
37 Todos se asustaron muchísimo, porque creyeron que era un fantasma. 38 Pero Jesús les dijo: «¿Por qué están tan asustados? ¿Por qué les cuesta tanto creer? 39 ¡Miren mis manos y mis pies! ¡Soy yo! ¡Tóquenme! ¡Mírenme! ¡Soy yo! Los fantasmas no tienen carne ni huesos, pero yo sí.»
40 Mientras les decía eso, Jesús les mostraba sus manos y sus pies. 41 Pero ellos, entre asustados y contentos, no podían creer lo que estaban viendo. Entonces Jesús les preguntó: «¿Tienen algo de comer?»
42 Ellos le dieron un pedazo de pescado asado, 43 y Jesús se lo comió mientras todos lo miraban. 44 Después les dijo: «Recuerden lo que les dije cuando estaba con ustedes: “Tenía que cumplirse todo lo que dice la Biblia acerca de mí.”»
45 Entonces les explicó la Biblia con palabras fáciles, para que pudieran entenderla:
46 «La Biblia dice que el Mesías tenía que morir y resucitar después de tres días. 47 También dice que en todas las naciones se hablará de mí, para que todos se vuelvan a Dios y él los perdone.
»Ustedes deben hablar en Jerusalén 48 de todo esto que han visto. 49 Ahora quédense en la ciudad, porque muy pronto les enviaré a quien mi Padre prometió. No se vayan a ningún otro lado, hasta que reciban el poder que Dios les enviará.»
Jesús sube al cielo
50 Jesús fue con sus discípulos hasta Betania. Allí, levantó sus manos y los bendijo. 51 Y en ese mismo instante fue llevado al cielo, 52 mientras ellos lo adoraban.
Después de esto, los discípulos regresaron muy contentos a Jerusalén, 53 y todos los días iban al templo para adorar a Dios.

The Road to Emmaus(N)

19 And He said to them, “What things?”
So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, (S)who was a Prophet (T)mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 (U)and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping (V)that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and (W)certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And (X)certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.”

The Disciples’ Eyes Opened
28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and (AC)He [h]indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But (AD)they constrained Him, saying, (AE)“Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.
30 Now it came to pass, as (AF)He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and (AG)has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was [i]known to them in the breaking of bread.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples(AH)
36 (AI)Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen (AJ)a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? Jesus Has Risen(A)
24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared(B) and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.(C) 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning(D) stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:(E) 7 ‘The Son of Man(F) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”(G) 8 Then they remembered his words.(H)

On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem.(N) 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;(O) 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.(P)
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas,(Q) asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,”(R) they replied. “He was a prophet,(S) powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers(T) handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.(U) And what is more, it is the third day(V) since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us.(W) They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”(X)
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”(Y) 27 And beginning with Moses(Z) and all the Prophets,(AA) he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.(AB)
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it(AC) and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,(AD) and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us(AE) while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures(AF) to us?”
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord(AG) has risen and has appeared to Simon.”(AH) 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.(AI)

36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”(AJ)
37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.(AK) 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see;(AL) a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.(AM)
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you:(AN) Everything must be fulfilled(AO) that is written about me in the Law of Moses,(AP) the Prophets(AQ) and the Psalms.”(AR)
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer(AS) and rise from the dead on the third day,(AT) 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name(AU) to all nations,(AV) beginning at Jerusalem.(AW) 48 You are witnesses(AX) of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised;(AY) but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension of Jesus
50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany,(AZ) he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.(BA) 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple,(BB) praising God.
