La autoridad de Jesús puesta en duda

20 (A)Aconteció que en uno de los días, cuando Jesús enseñaba a la gente en el templo(B) y anunciaba[a] el evangelio(C), se enfrentaron a Él los principales sacerdotes y los escribas con los ancianos(D), y le dijeron: «Dinos, ¿con qué autoridad haces estas cosas, o quién te dio esta autoridad?».

Jesús les respondió: «Yo también les haré una pregunta[b]; quiero que me digan: El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo o de los hombres?». Y ellos razonaban entre sí, diciendo: «Si decimos: “Del cielo”, Él dirá: “¿Por qué no le creyeron?”. Pero si decimos: “De los hombres”, todo el pueblo nos matará a pedradas, pues están convencidos de que Juan era un profeta(E)».

Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde era. Jesús entonces les dijo: «Tampoco Yo les diré[c]con qué autoridad hago estas cosas».

Parábola de los labradores malvados

(F)Entonces comenzó a contar al pueblo esta parábola: «Un hombre plantó una viña, y la arrendó a labradores, y se fue de viaje por mucho tiempo. 10 Al tiempo de la vendimia envió un siervo a los labradores para que le dieran parte del fruto de la viña; pero los labradores, después de golpearlo, lo enviaron con las manos vacías. 11 Volvió a enviar otro siervo; y ellos también a este, después de golpearlo y ultrajarlo, lo enviaron con las manos vacías. 12 Después envió un tercero; y a este también lo hirieron y echaron fuera.

13 »Entonces el dueño[d] de la viña dijo: “¿Qué haré? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; quizá a él lo respetarán(G) ”. 14 Pero cuando los labradores lo vieron, razonaron entre sí, diciendo: “Este es el heredero; vamos a matarlo para que la heredad sea nuestra”. 15 Y arrojándolo fuera de la viña, lo mataron. Por tanto, ¿qué les hará el dueño de la viña? 16 Vendrá y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará la viña a otros(H)». Y cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron: «¡Nunca suceda tal cosa(I)!».

17 Pero Él, mirándolos fijamente, dijo: «Entonces, ¿qué quiere decir[e]esto que está escrito:

La piedra que desecharon los constructores(J) ,
Esa, en piedra angular[f] se ha convertido(K) ”?

18 Todo el que caiga sobre esa piedra será hecho pedazos; y sobre quien ella caiga, lo esparcirá como polvo(L) ».

El pago del impuesto a César

19 Los escribas y los principales sacerdotes procuraron arrestar a Jesús(M) en aquella misma hora, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; pero temieron al pueblo. 20 (N)Para sorprender a Jesús en alguna declaración[g](O), lo acechaban, enviando espías que fingieran ser justos, y así lo podrían entregar al poder y autoridad del gobernador(P).

21 Y le preguntaron: «Maestro, sabemos que hablas y enseñas rectamente, y no te guías por las apariencias[h], sino que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios. 22 ¿Nos es lícito pagar[i] impuesto a César(Q), o no?». 23 Pero Jesús, percibiendo su astucia, les dijo: 24 «Traigan un denario[j]. ¿De quién es la imagen y la inscripción que lleva?». «De César», contestaron.

25 Entonces Jesús les dijo: «Pues den a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios(R)». 26 Y no podían sorprender a Jesús en palabra alguna[k](S) delante del pueblo; y maravillados de Su respuesta, se callaron.

Pregunta sobre la resurrección

27 (T)Acercándose a Él algunos de los saduceos, los que dicen que no hay resurrección, 28 Le dijeron: «Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: “Si el hermano de alguien muere, siendo casado, y no deja hijos, que su hermano tome la mujer y levante descendencia a su hermano(U)”. 29 Eran, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin dejar hijos; 30 y el segundo[l] 31 y el tercero la tomaron; y de la misma manera también los siete, y murieron sin dejar hijos. 32 Por último, murió también la mujer. 33 Por tanto, en la resurrección, ¿de cuál de ellos será esposa la mujer? Porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer».

34 Jesús les respondió: «Los hijos de este siglo(V)se casan y son dados en matrimonio. 35 Pero los que son tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo(W)y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan ni son dados en matrimonio. 36 Tampoco pueden morir, pues son como ángeles, y son hijos de Dios(X), siendo hijos de la resurrección. 37 Pero que los muertos resucitan, aun Moisés lo enseñó, en aquel pasaje sobre la zarza ardiendo, donde llama al Señor, el Dios de Abraham, y Dios de Isaac, y Dios de Jacob(Y). 38 Él no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos(Z); porque todos viven para Él(AA)».

39 Algunos de los escribas respondieron: «Maestro, bien has hablado». 40 Y ya no se atrevían a hacer más preguntas(AB).

Jesús, Hijo y Señor de David

41 (AC)Entonces Jesús les preguntó: «¿Cómo es que dicen que el Cristo[m]es hijo de David(AD)? 42 Pues David mismo dice en el libro de los Salmos:

El Señor dijo a mi Señor:
Siéntate a Mi diestra(AE) ,
43 Hasta que ponga a Tus enemigos por estrado de Tus pies(AF) ”».

44 «David, por tanto, lo llama “Señor”. ¿Cómo, pues, es Él su hijo?».

Advertencia contra los escribas

45 (AG)Mientras todo el pueblo escuchaba, dijo a Sus discípulos: 46 «Cuídense de los escribas, a quienes les gusta andar con vestiduras largas, y son amantes de los saludos respetuosos en las plazas, y de ocupar los primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los lugares de honor en los banquetes(AH); 47 que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por las apariencias hacen largas oraciones; ellos recibirán mayor condenación».

20 ¶ And it came to pass that on one of those days as he taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, the princes of the priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders

and spoke unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing, and answer me:

The baptism of John, was it from heaven or of men?

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

But and if we say, Of men, all the people will stone us; for they are certain that John was a prophet.

And they answered that they knew not from where.

Then Jesus said unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

¶ And he began to speak this parable to the people: A certain man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen and went into a far country for a long time.

10 And at the season he sent a slave to the husbandmen that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard, but the husbandmen beat him and sent him away empty.

11 And again he sent another slave, and they beat him also and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty.

12 And again he sent a third, and they wounded him also and cast him out.

13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him when they see him.

14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him that the inheritance may be ours.

15 So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, May it not be!

17 But he beheld them and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?

18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

19 And the princes of the priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him, for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them; but they feared the people.

20 ¶ And they watched him and sent forth spies who feigned themselves just men that they might take hold of him as he was speaking, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.

21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither dost thou accept the person of any, but teachest the way of God with truth;

22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar or no?

23 But he, perceiving their craftiness, said unto them, Why tempt ye me?

24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have? They answered and said, Caesar’s.

25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things which are God’s.

26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people, and they marvelled at his answer and were silent.

27 ¶ Then certain of the Sadducees came, who deny that there is any resurrection, and they asked him,

28 saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

29 There were therefore seven brethren, and the first took a wife and died without children.

30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also, and they left no children and died.

32 Last of all the woman died also.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be? for seven had her to wife.

34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,

35 but those who are accounted worthy to obtain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry, nor are given in marriage;

36 for neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto the angels and are the sons of God, being the sons of the resurrection.

37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed this at the bush when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live unto him.

39 ¶ Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

40 And after that they dared not ask him any question at all.

41 And he said unto them, How do they say that the Christ is David’s son?

42 And David himself says in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand

43 until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

44 David therefore calls him Lord; how is he then his son?

45 Then in the audience of all the people, he said unto his disciples,

46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes and love greetings in the markets and the first seats in the synagogues and the first places at suppers;

47 who devour the houses of the widows and for a pretext make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

20 And it came about on one of the yamim Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was saying shiurim to HaAm (the People) in the Beis Hamikdash and was preaching the Besuras HaGeulah, the Rashei Hakohanim and the Sofrim with the Ziknei HaAm stood by;

They spoke, saying to him, Tell us by what shlita (authority) you do these things, or who is the one having given to you this shlita?

In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them, I will also confront you will a she’elah, and you tell me:

The tevilah of teshuva of Yochanan—was it from Shomayim or from Bnei Adam?

And they reasoned to themselves saying, If we say, from Shomayim, he will say, why did you not believe him?

But if we say, from Bnei Adam, HaAm (the People) all will subject us to sequilah (stoning), for HaAm Yisroel are all convinced that Yochanan is a navi.

And they answered that they did not have daas of the origin of the tevilah of teshuva of Yochanan.

And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, Neither am I telling you by what shlita (authority) I do these things.

And he began to tell this mashal to HaAm Yisroel. A certain ish planted a kerem and leased it to koremim (vine keepers) and he went away for a long time. [YESHAYAH 5:1-7]

10 And in season he sent to the koremim (vine keepers) an eved (servant) that from the pri of the kerem they will give to him. But the koremim (vine keepers) sent the eved away empty, having beaten him.

11 And he proceeded to send another eved. But him also, when they had beaten and dishonored him, they sent him away empty.

12 And he proceeded to send an eved shlishi (a third servant). And also this one, having wounded, they threw out.

13 And the Adon of the kerem, said, What should I do? I will send Beni Ahuvi. Perhaps this one they will respect.

14 But having seen him, the koremim (vine keepers) were reasoning with one another saying, This one is the Bechor, the heir. Let us kill him, that the bechorah may become ours.

15 And having driven him outside the kerem, they killed him. What then will the Baal HaKerem do to them?

16 He will come and will destroy these koremim (vine keepers) and will give the kerem to others. And having heard this, HaAm Yisroel said, Chas vShalom!

17 But having looked at them, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, What then is this which has been written: EVEN MAASU HAYTAH LEROSH PINAH (The Stone they rejected became the capstone)? [TEHILLIM 118:22]

18 Everyone having fallen upon that even (stone) will be DAKU (broken into pieces, DANIEL 2:34), and upon whomever it falls, it will crush him [YESHAYAH 8:14,15; DANIEL 2:34f].

19 And the Sofrim and the Rashei Hakohenim sought to lay their hands upon him in the same hour, but they were afraid of HaAm Yisroel, for they knew that he spoke this mashal (parable) against them.

20 And having watched carefully, they sent spies pretending themselves to be tzaddikim, that they might catch him in his dvar, so as to deliver him to the rulers and the manhigim under the Moshel (Governor).

21 And they set a she’elah (question) before him, saying, Rabbi, we have daas that you speak beemes in the shiurim you say and you show no deference toward anyone, but on the basis of HaEmes you give torah about HaDerech Hashem.

22 Is it mutar for us to pay tax to Caesar or not?

23 But having noticed the ORMAH (cunning, craftiness, BERESHIS 3:1) in their manner, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them,

24 Show me a denarius. Whose demut (likeness) has it? And whose inscription? And they said, Caesar’s.

25 And he said to them, Then give the things of Caesar to Caesar and the things of Hashem to Hashem.

26 And they were not able to catch him in his dvar before the people and, having been mishpoyel (marveled) at his teshuva (answer), they were silent.

27 And some of the Tzedukim—the Tzedukim are the ones speaking against the Techiyas HaMesim, who say there is none—approached Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach. They set a she’elah (question) before him,

28 Saying, Rabbi, Moshe Rabbenu laid it down in writing to us, if someone’s ach dies and has an isha, and UVEN EIN LO (and there is no son to him), that he should take the almanah of his ach and he should raise up a zera (seed) to his ach. [Dt 25:5]

29 Now there were shiva achim. And the first took an isha, and died UVEN EIN LO (and there is no son to him).

30 And the second took her to be his isha, and he died childless.

31 And the third took her; and likewise also the seventh did not leave behind a ben and they all died.

32 And lemaskana (finally) the isha died.

33 The isha, then, in the Techiyas HaMesim, of which of them does she become the wife? For shiva had her as isha (wife).

34 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach said to them, The banim of the Olam Hazeh marry and are given in marriage:

35 But the ones having been considered worthy to attain to the Olam HaBah and the Techiyas HaMesim neither marry nor are given in marriage.

36 For neither is it possible any longer for them to die, for they are like malachim and they are bnei haElohim, being bnei haTechiyas HaMesim.

37 But that the Mesim are made to stand up alive, even Moshe revealed at the burning bush, as he calls Adonoi ELOHEI AVRAHAM ELOHEI YITZCHAK VELOHEI YAAKOV. [SHEMOT 3:6]

38 But Hashem is not the G-d of Mesim but is Elohei HaChayyim, for to Hashem all are alive.

39 And, in reply, some of the Sofrim said, Rabbi, you spoke well.

40 For no longer were they daring to set a she’elah (question) before him regarding anything.

41 And he said to them, How do they say that the Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach is to be [merely] Dovid’s ben?

42 For Dovid himself says in the book of Tehillim, NEUM HASHEM LADONI: SHEV LIMINI,

43 AD ASHIT OYVECHA L’RAGLECHA. [TEHILLIM 110:1]

44 Therefore, if Dovid calls him Adon, how is he [merely] ben Dovid?

45 In the hearing of all the people, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to his talmidim,

46 Beware of the Sofrim (Rabbonim), the ones wanting to strut around in long kaftans and loving [obsequious] Birkat Shalom greetings in the marketplaces and the rashei hamoshavot (chief seats) in the shuls and the places of kavod at seudos tishen,

47 Which devour the batim (houses) of the almanot (widows) and for the sake of appearance daven lengthy tefillos (prayers): the same shall receive greater damnation.
