Persistência na oração
18 Jesus lhes contou uma parábola para lhes ensinar que deveriam orar sempre, sem desanimar. 2 Ele disse:
—Em certa cidade havia um juiz que não temia a Deus e nem respeitava a ninguém. 3 Nessa mesma vila vivia também uma viúva que sempre o procurava, pedindo: “Ajude-me a obter justiça contra o meu adversário”. 4 Por muito tempo ele se negou a ajudar a viúva, mas um dia disse para si mesmo: “É certo que eu não temo a Deus e que também não respeito a ninguém. 5 Porém, tenho que ajudar esta viúva a obter justiça, pois ela não para de me aborrecer e, se eu não a ajudar, ela nunca me deixará em paz”.
6 Então o Senhor disse:
—Considerem o que o juiz desonesto disse. 7 Não fará Deus justiça a favor do seu povo que grita por socorro dia e noite? Será que ele vai demorar para ajudá-lo? 8 Eu lhes digo que ele fará justiça ao seu povo e depressa. Porém, será que o Filho do Homem encontrará fé na terra quando voltar?
O fariseu e o cobrador de impostos
9 Para aqueles que tinham certeza de que eram justos e que desprezavam os outros, ele contou esta parábola:
10 —Dois homens subiram ao templo para orar; um era fariseu e o outro cobrador de impostos. 11 O fariseu se levantou e orou consigo mesmo: “Meu Deus! Eu lhe agradeço por não ser como as outras pessoas: ladrões, desonestos, adúlteros, ou até mesmo como este cobrador de impostos. 12 Jejuo duas vezes por semana e dou dez por cento de tudo o que ganho”. 13 O cobrador de impostos, porém, de longe, nem sequer olhava para o céu e, batendo no peito, dizia: “Meu Deus! Tenha compaixão de mim, pois sou pecador!” 14 Eu lhes digo que este homem, e não o outro, foi para casa em paz com Deus. Pois Deus fará com que todo aquele que se exalte seja humilhado, e aquele que se humilhe seja exaltado.
Jesus acolhe as crianças
(Mt 19.13-15; Mc 10.13-16)
15 E levavam até mesmo crianças a Jesus, para que ele pudesse abençoá-las[a]. Quando, porém, os discípulos viram isto, repreenderam aqueles que as levavam. 16 Mas Jesus, chamando as crianças para perto de si, disse:
—Deixem que as criancinhas venham a mim; não as proíbam! Pois o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como estas crianças. 17 Digo a verdade a vocês: Quem não receber o reino de Deus assim como uma criança o faz, nunca entrará nele.
Um jovem rico recusa seguir Jesus
(Mt 19.16-30; Mc 10.17-31)
18 Certo líder judeu perguntou-lhe:
—Bom Mestre, o que devo fazer para herdar a vida eterna?
19 Jesus lhe respondeu:
—Por que você me chama de bom? Só Deus é bom, e mais ninguém. 20 Você conhece os mandamentos: “Não cometa adultério, não mate, não roube, não acuse ninguém falsamente, respeite o seu pai e a sua mãe”(A).
21 E o homem, então, disse:
—Desde pequeno tenho obedecido a todos esses mandamentos.
22 Quando Jesus ouviu isto, disse:
—Ainda está faltando uma coisa: Venda tudo o que você tem e distribua o dinheiro entre os pobres; então você terá um tesouro no céu. Depois venha e siga-me.
23 Quando o homem ouviu isto, ficou muito triste, pois era riquíssimo. 24 Jesus viu que ele estava triste e disse:
—Como é difícil para os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus! 25 É mais fácil um camelo passar pelo buraco de uma agulha, do que um rico entrar no reino de Deus.
26 Os que o ouviam, disseram:
—Então, quem é que pode ser salvo?
27 Ele disse:
—O que é impossível para as pessoas, é possível para Deus.
28 Então Pedro disse:
—Olhe, nós deixamos tudo o que tínhamos para seguir o senhor.
29 Jesus, então, lhes disse:
—Digo a verdade a vocês: Não há ninguém que tenha deixado casa, mulher, irmãos, pais ou filhos por causa do reino de Deus, 30 e que não receba no presente muitas vezes mais e, no futuro, a vida eterna.
Jesus fala de sua morte pela terceira vez
(Mt 20.17-19; Mc 10.32-34)
31 Jesus chamou os doze discípulos de lado e lhes disse:
—Escutem! Nós estamos indo para Jerusalém e todas as coisas que os profetas escreveram a respeito do Filho do Homem acontecerão. 32 Ele será entregue aos que não são judeus e estes vão zombar dele, insultá-lo, cuspir nele. 33 E, depois de baterem nele, o matarão. Mas no terceiro dia ele ressuscitará.
34 Os discípulos, porém, não entenderam nada do que Jesus falou. O sentido daquelas palavras estava escondido deles e eles não sabiam do que Jesus falava.
Jesus cura um cego
(Mt 20.29-34; Mc 10.46-52)
35 Jesus estava chegando perto da cidade de Jericó. Um homem cego, sentado à beira da estrada, pedia esmolas 36 e, quando ouviu a multidão passando, perguntou o que estava acontecendo. 37 E lhe disseram que Jesus de Nazaré estava passando. 38 Ao ouvir isto, ele começou a gritar:
—Jesus, Filho da família de Davi, por favor, me ajude!
39 Aqueles que estavam indo na frente diziam para ele ficar quieto, mas ele gritava ainda mais:
—Filho da família de Davi, por favor, me ajude!
40 Jesus, então, parou e mandou que lhe trouxessem o cego. Quando o cego já estava perto dele, Jesus lhe perguntou:
41 —O que quer que eu faça por você?
E ele respondeu:
—Quero voltar a ver, Senhor!
42 Então Jesus lhe disse:
—Receba a sua visão. A sua fé o curou.
43 E, no mesmo instante, o cego recuperou a vista e seguia Jesus e dava glórias a Deus. Todas as pessoas que viram isto louvavam a Deus.

A parábola da viúva persistente
18 Jesus contou a seus discípulos uma parábola para mostrar-lhes que deviam orar sempre e nunca desanimar. 2 Disse ele: “Havia numa cidade um juiz que não temia a Deus nem se importava com as pessoas. 3 Uma viúva daquela cidade vinha a ele com frequência e dizia: ‘Faça-me justiça contra meu adversário’. 4 Por algum tempo, o juiz não lhe deu atenção, mas, por fim, disse a si mesmo: ‘Não temo a Deus e não me importo com as pessoas, 5 mas essa viúva está me irritando. Vou lhe fazer justiça, pois assim deixará de me importunar’”.
6 Então o Senhor disse: “Aprendam uma lição com o juiz injusto. 7 Acaso Deus não fará justiça a seus escolhidos que clamam a ele dia e noite? Continuará a adiar sua resposta? 8 Eu afirmo que ele lhes fará justiça, e rápido! Mas, quando o Filho do Homem voltar, quantas pessoas com fé ele encontrará na terra?”.
A parábola do fariseu e do cobrador de impostos
9 Em seguida, Jesus contou a seguinte parábola àqueles que confiavam em sua própria justiça e desprezavam os demais: 10 “Dois homens foram ao templo orar. Um deles era fariseu, e o outro, cobrador de impostos. 11 O fariseu, em pé, fazia esta oração: ‘Eu te agradeço, Deus, porque não sou como as demais pessoas: desonestas, pecadoras, adúlteras. E, com certeza, não sou como aquele cobrador de impostos. 12 Jejuo duas vezes por semana e dou o dízimo de tudo que ganho’.
13 “Mas o cobrador de impostos ficou a distância e não tinha coragem nem de levantar os olhos para o céu enquanto orava. Em vez disso, batia no peito e dizia: ‘Deus, tem misericórdia de mim, pois sou pecador’. 14 Eu lhes digo que foi o cobrador de impostos, e não o fariseu, quem voltou para casa justificado diante de Deus. Pois aqueles que se exaltam serão humilhados, e aqueles que se humilham serão exaltados”.
Jesus abençoa as crianças
15 Certo dia, trouxeram crianças para que Jesus pusesse as mãos sobre elas. Ao ver isso, os discípulos repreenderam aqueles que as traziam.
16 Jesus, porém, chamou as crianças para junto de si e disse aos discípulos: “Deixem que as crianças venham a mim. Não as impeçam, pois o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como elas. 17 Eu lhes digo a verdade: quem não receber o reino de Deus como uma criança de modo algum entrará nele”.
O homem rico
18 Certa vez, um homem de alta posição perguntou a Jesus: “Bom mestre, que devo fazer para herdar a vida eterna?”.
19 “Por que você me chama de bom?”, perguntou Jesus. “Apenas Deus é verdadeiramente bom. 20 Você conhece os mandamentos: ‘Não cometa adultério. Não mate. Não roube. Não dê falso testemunho. Honre seu pai e sua mãe’.”[a]
21 O homem respondeu: “Tenho obedecido a todos esses mandamentos desde a juventude”.
22 Quando Jesus ouviu sua resposta, disse: “Ainda há uma coisa que você não fez. Venda todos os seus bens e dê o dinheiro aos pobres. Então você terá um tesouro no céu. Depois, venha e siga-me”.
23 Ao ouvir essas palavras, o homem se entristeceu, pois era muito rico.
As recompensas do discipulado
24 Ao ver a tristeza daquele homem, Jesus disse: “Como é difícil os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus! 25 Na verdade, é mais fácil um camelo passar pelo buraco de uma agulha que um rico entrar no reino de Deus”.
26 Aqueles que o ouviram disseram: “Então quem pode ser salvo?”.
27 Jesus respondeu: “O que é impossível para as pessoas é possível para Deus”.
28 Pedro disse: “Deixamos nossos lares para segui-lo”.
29 Jesus respondeu: “Eu lhes garanto que todos que deixaram casa, esposa, irmãos, pais ou filhos por causa do reino de Deus 30 receberão neste mundo uma recompensa muitas vezes maior e, no mundo futuro, terão a vida eterna”.
Jesus prediz sua morte e ressurreição
31 Jesus chamou os Doze à parte e disse: “Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, onde tudo que foi escrito pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do Homem se cumprirá. 32 Ele será entregue aos gentios, e zombarão dele, o insultarão e cuspirão nele. 33 Eles o açoitarão e o matarão, mas no terceiro dia ele ressuscitará”.
34 Os discípulos, porém, não entenderam. O significado dessas palavras lhes estava oculto, e não sabiam do que ele falava.
Jesus cura um mendigo cego
35 Quando Jesus se aproximava de Jericó, havia um mendigo cego sentado à beira do caminho. 36 Ao ouvir o barulho da multidão que passava, perguntou o que estava acontecendo. 37 Disseram-lhe que Jesus de Nazaré estava passando por ali. 38 Então começou a gritar: “Jesus, Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
39 Os que estavam mais à frente o repreendiam e ordenavam que se calasse. Mas ele gritava ainda mais alto: “Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
40 Então Jesus parou e ordenou que lhe trouxessem o homem. Quando ele se aproximou, Jesus lhe perguntou: 41 “O que você quer que eu lhe faça?”.
“Senhor, eu quero ver!”, respondeu o homem.
42 E Jesus disse: “Receba a visão! Sua fé o curou”. 43 No mesmo instante, o homem passou a enxergar, e seguia Jesus, louvando a Deus. E todos que presenciaram isso também louvavam a Deus.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
18 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought (A)always to pray and not (B)lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who (C)neither feared God nor respected man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, (D)‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And (E)will not God give justice to (F)his elect, (G)who cry to him day and night? (H)(I)Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them (J)speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, (K)will he find faith on earth?”
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 He also told this parable to some (L)who trusted (M)in themselves that they were righteous, (N)and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men (O)went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, (P)standing by himself, prayed[a] (Q)thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 (R)I fast twice a week; (S)I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, (T)standing far off, (U)would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but (V)beat his breast, saying, ‘God, (W)be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For (X)everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Let the Children Come to Me
15 (Y)Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they (Z)rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, (AA)“Let the children come to me, and (AB)do not hinder them, (AC)for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 (AD)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (AE)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
The Rich Ruler
18 (AF)And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to (AG)inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: (AH)‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, (AI)“All these I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time
31 (AV)And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, (AW)we are going up to Jerusalem, and (AX)everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. 32 For he will be (AY)delivered over to the Gentiles and will be (AZ)mocked and shamefully treated and (BA)spit upon. 33 And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on (BB)the third day he will rise.” 34 (BC)But they understood none of these things. (BD)This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
35 (BE)As he drew near to Jericho, (BF)a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. 37 They told him, (BG)“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 And he cried out, “Jesus, (BH)Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front (BI)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, 41 (BJ)“What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; (BK)your faith has (BL)made you well.” 43 And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, (BM)glorifying God. 4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
