18 Y PROPUSOLES también una parábola sobre que es necesario orar siempre, y no desmayar,
2 Diciendo: Había un juez en una ciudad, el cual ni temía á Dios, ni respetaba á hombre.
3 Había también en aquella ciudad una viuda, la cual venía á él diciendo: Hazme justicia de mi adversario.
4 Pero él no quiso por algún tiempo; mas después de esto dijo dentro de sí: Aunque ni temo á Dios, ni tengo respeto á hombre,
5 Todavía, porque esta viuda me es molesta, le haré justicia, porque al fin no venga y me muela.
6 Y dijo el Señor: Oid lo que dice el juez injusto.
7 ¿Y Dios no hará justicia á sus escogidos, que claman á él día y noche, aunque sea longánime acerca de ellos?
8 Os digo que los defenderá presto. Empero cuando el Hijo del hombre viniere, ¿hallará fe en la tierra?
9 Y dijo también á unos que confiaban de sí como justos, y menospreciaban á los otros, esta parábola:
10 Dos hombres subieron al templo á orar: el uno Fariseo, el otro publicano.
11 El Fariseo, en pie, oraba consigo de esta manera: Dios, te doy gracias, que no soy como los otros hombres, ladrones, injustos, adúlteros, ni aun como este publicano;
12 Ayuno dos veces á la semana, doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo.
13 Mas el publicano estando lejos no quería ni aun alzar los ojos al cielo, sino que hería su pecho, diciendo: Dios, sé propició á mí pecador.
14 Os digo que éste descendió á su casa justificado antes que el otro; porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.
15 Y traían á él los niños para que los tocase; lo cual viendo los discípulos les reñían.
16 Mas Jesús llamándolos, dijo: Dejad los niños venir á mí, y no los impidáis; porque de tales es el reino de Dios.
17 De cierto os digo, que cualquiera que no recibiere el reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él.
18 Y preguntóle un príncipe, diciendo: Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para poseer la vida eterna?
19 Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? ninguno hay bueno sino sólo Dios.
20 Los mandamientos sabes: No matarás: No adulterarás: No hurtarás: No dirás falso testimonio: Honra á tu padre y á tu madre.
21 Y él dijo: Todas estas cosas he guardado desde mi juventud.
22 Y Jesús, oído esto, le dijo: Aun te falta una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes, y da á los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme.
23 Entonces él, oídas estas cosas, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.
24 Y viendo Jesús que se había entristecido mucho, dijo: Cuán dificultosamente entrarán en el reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas!
25 Porque más fácil cosa es entrar un camello por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.
26 Y los que lo oían, dijeron: ¿Y quién podrá ser salvo?
27 Y él les dijo: Lo que es imposible para con los hombres, posible es para Dios.
28 Entonces Pedro dijo: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado las posesiones nuestras, y te hemos seguido.
29 Y él les dijo: De cierto os digo, que nadie hay que haya dejado casa, padres, ó hermanos, ó mujer, ó hijos, por el reino de Dios,
30 Que no haya de recibir mucho más en este tiempo, y en el siglo venidero la vida eterna.
31 Y Jesús, tomando á los doce, les dijo: He aquí subimos á Jerusalem, y serán cumplidas todas las cosas que fueron escritas por los profetas, del Hijo del hombre.
32 Porque será entregado á las gentes, y será escarnecido, é injuriado, y escupido.
33 Y después que le hubieren azotado, le matarán: mas al tercer día resucitará.
34 Pero ellos nada de estas cosas entendían, y esta palabra les era encubierta, y no entendían lo que se decía.
35 Y aconteció que acercándose él á Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando;
36 El cual como oyó la gente que pasaba, preguntó qué era aquello.
37 Y dijéronle que pasaba Jesús Nazareno.
38 Entonces dió voces, diciendo: Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
39 Y los que iban delante, le reñían que callase; mas él clamaba mucho más: Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
40 Jesús entonces parándose, mandó traerle á sí: y como él llegó, le preguntó,
41 Diciendo: ¿Qué quieres que te haga? Y él dijo: Señor, que vea.
42 Y Jesús le dijo: Ve, tu fe te ha hecho salvo.
43 Y luego vió, y le seguía, glorificando á Dios: y todo el pueblo como lo vió, dió á Dios alabanza.

Parábola de la viuda insistente
18 Jesús contó a sus discípulos una parábola para mostrarles que debían orar siempre, sin desanimarse. 2 Les dijo: «Había en cierto pueblo un juez que no tenía temor de Dios ni consideración de nadie. 3 En el mismo pueblo había una viuda que insistía en pedirle: “Hágame usted justicia contra mi adversario”. 4 Durante algún tiempo él se negó, pero por fin concluyó: “Aunque no temo a Dios ni tengo consideración de nadie, 5 como esta viuda no deja de molestarme, voy a tener que hacerle justicia, no sea que con sus visitas me haga la vida imposible”».
6 Continuó el Señor: «Tengan en cuenta lo que dijo el juez injusto. 7 ¿Acaso Dios no hará justicia a sus escogidos, que claman a él día y noche? ¿Se tardará mucho en responderles? 8 Les digo que sí les hará justicia y sin demora. No obstante, cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe en la tierra?».
Parábola del fariseo y del recaudador de impuestos
9 A algunos que, confiando en sí mismos, se creían justos y que despreciaban a los demás, Jesús les contó esta parábola: 10 «Dos hombres subieron al Templo a orar; uno era fariseo, y el otro, recaudador de impuestos. 11 El fariseo, puesto en pie y a solas, oraba: “Oh Dios, te doy gracias porque no soy como otros hombres —ladrones, malhechores, adúlteros— ni como ese recaudador de impuestos. 12 Ayuno dos veces a la semana y doy la décima parte de todo lo que recibo”. 13 En cambio, el recaudador de impuestos, que se había quedado a cierta distancia, ni siquiera se atrevía a alzar la vista al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho y decía: “¡Oh Dios, ten compasión de mí, que soy pecador!”.
14 »Les digo que este y no aquel volvió a su casa justificado ante Dios. Pues todo el que a sí mismo se enaltece será humillado y el que se humilla será enaltecido».
Jesús y los niños(A)
15 También le llevaban niños pequeños a Jesús para que los tocara. Al ver esto, los discípulos reprendían a quienes los llevaban. 16 Pero Jesús llamó a los niños y dijo: «Dejen que los niños vengan a mí; no se lo impidan, porque el reino de Dios es de quienes son como ellos. 17 Les aseguro que el que no reciba el reino de Dios como un niño, de ninguna manera entrará en él».
El dirigente rico(B)
18 Cierto dirigente preguntó a Jesús:
—Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?
19 —¿Por qué me llamas bueno? —respondió Jesús—. Nadie es bueno sino solo Dios. 20 Ya sabes los mandamientos: “No cometas adulterio, no mates, no robes, no presentes falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre”.[a]
21 —Todo eso lo he cumplido desde que era joven —dijo el hombre.
22 Al oír esto, Jesús añadió:
—Todavía te falta una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes y repártelo entre los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo. Luego ven y sígueme.
23 Cuando el hombre oyó esto, se entristeció mucho, pues era muy rico. 24 Al verlo tan afligido, Jesús comentó:
—¡Qué difícil es para los ricos entrar en el reino de Dios! 25 En realidad, le resulta más fácil a un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja que a un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.
26 Los que lo oyeron preguntaron:
—Entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse?
27 —Lo que es imposible para los hombres es posible para Dios —aclaró Jesús.
28 —Mira —le dijo Pedro—, nosotros hemos dejado todo lo que teníamos para seguirte.
29 —Les aseguro —respondió Jesús— que todo el que por causa del reino de Dios haya dejado casa, esposa, hermanos, padres o hijos 30 recibirá mucho más en este tiempo; y en la edad venidera, la vida eterna.
Jesús predice de nuevo su muerte(C)
31 Entonces Jesús tomó aparte a los doce y dijo: «Ahora vamos subiendo a Jerusalén, donde se cumplirá todo lo que escribieron los profetas acerca del Hijo del hombre. 32 En efecto, será entregado a los gentiles. Se burlarán de él, lo insultarán, le escupirán; 33 y, después de azotarlo, lo matarán. Pero al tercer día resucitará».
34 Los discípulos no entendieron nada de esto. Les era incomprensible, pues no captaban el sentido de lo que hablaba.
Un mendigo ciego recibe la vista(D)
35 Sucedió que al acercarse Jesús a Jericó, estaba un ciego sentado junto al camino pidiendo limosna. 36 Cuando oyó a la multitud que pasaba, preguntó qué acontecía.
37 —Jesús de Nazaret está pasando por aquí —respondieron.
38 —¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí! —gritó el ciego.
39 Los que iban delante lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él se puso a gritar aún más fuerte:
—¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!
40 Jesús se detuvo y mandó que se lo trajeran. Cuando el ciego se acercó, preguntó Jesús:
41 —¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?
Y él dijo:
—Señor, quiero ver.
42 —¡Recibe la vista! —le dijo Jesús—, tu fe te ha sanado.
43 Al instante recobró la vista. Entonces, glorificando a Dios, comenzó a seguir a Jesús y todos los que lo vieron daban alabanza a Dios.

The Picture-Story of the Woman Whose Husband Had Died
18 Jesus told them a picture-story to show that men should always pray and not give up. 2 He said, “There was a man in one of the cities who was head of the court. His work was to say if a person was guilty or not. This man was not afraid of God. He did not respect any man. 3 In that city there was a woman whose husband had died. She kept coming to him and saying, ‘Help me! There is someone who is working against me.’ 4 For awhile he would not help her. Then he began to think, ‘I am not afraid of God and I do not respect any man. 5 But I will see that this woman whose husband has died gets her rights because I get tired of her coming all the time.’” 6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to the words of the sinful man who is head of the court. 7 Will not God make the things that are right come to His chosen people who cry day and night to Him? Will He wait a long time to help them? 8 I tell you, He will be quick to help them. But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
The Picture-Story of the Proud Religious Law-Keepers and the Tax-Gatherers
9 Jesus told another picture-story to some people who trusted in themselves and thought they were right with God. These people did not think well of other men. 10 Jesus said, “Two men went up to the house of God to pray. One of them was a proud religious law-keeper. The other was a man who gathered taxes. 11 The proud religious law-keeper stood and prayed to himself like this, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men. I am not like those who steal. I am not like those who do things that are wrong. I am not like those who do sex sins. I am not even like this tax-gatherer. 12 I go without food two times a week so I can pray better. I give one-tenth part of the money I earn.’ 13 But the man who gathered taxes stood a long way off. He would not even lift his eyes to heaven. But he hit himself on his chest and said, ‘God, have pity on me! I am a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went back to his house forgiven, and not the other man. For whoever makes himself look more important than he is will find out how little he is worth. Whoever does not try to honor himself will be made important.”
Jesus Gives Thanks for Little Children (A)
15 People took their little children to Jesus so He could put His hand on them. When His followers saw it, they spoke sharp words to the people. 16 Jesus called the followers to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me. Do not try to stop them. The holy nation of God is made up of ones like these. 17 For sure, I tell you, whoever does not receive the holy nation of God as a child will not go into the holy nation.”
Jesus Teaches about Keeping the Law (B)
18 A leader of the people asked Jesus, “Good Teacher, what must I do to have life that lasts forever?” 19 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? There is only One Who is good. That is God. 20 You know the Laws. You must not do any sex sins. You must not kill another person. You must not steal. You must not tell a lie about someone else. Respect your father and your mother.” 21 The leader said, “I have obeyed all these Laws since I was a boy.”
22 When Jesus heard this, He said to the leader of the people, “There is still one thing you need to do. Sell everything you have. Give the money to poor people. Then you will have riches in heaven. Come and follow Me.” 23 When the leader heard this, he was very sad because he had many riches. 24 When Jesus saw that he was very sad, He said, “It is hard for those with riches to go into the holy nation of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go into the holy nation of God.”
26 Those who heard this, said, “Then who can be saved from the punishment of sin?” 27 Jesus said, “God can do things men cannot do.” 28 Then Peter said, “See, we have left everything and have followed You.” 29 Jesus said to them, “For sure, I tell you, anyone who has left his house or parents or brothers or wife or children because of the holy nation of God 30 will receive much more now. In the time to come he will have life that lasts forever.”
Jesus Tells of His Death the Third Time (C)
31 Then Jesus took the twelve followers to one side and said, “See! We are going up to Jerusalem. All the things the early preachers wrote about the Son of Man are going to happen. 32 He will be given over to the people who are not Jews. He will be made fun of. He will be hurt. He will be spit on. 33 They will beat Him and kill Him. After three days He will be raised again.”
34 The followers did not understand these words. The meaning of these words was hidden from them. They did not know what He said.
Healing of the Blind Man (D)
35 Jesus was coming near Jericho. A blind man was sitting by the side of the road, begging. 36 He heard many people going by and asked what was happening. 37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was going by. 38 Then he cried out and said, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.” 39 The people spoke sharp words to him and told him not to call out. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me.”
40 Jesus stopped and told the people to bring the blind man to Him. When the man was near, Jesus asked, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” He answered, “Lord, I want to see.” 42 Jesus said to him, “Then see! Your faith has healed you.” 43 At once he could see. He followed Jesus and gave thanks to God. All the people gave thanks to God when they saw it.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.(A) 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice(B) against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”(C)
6 And the Lord(D) said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out(E) to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man(F) comes,(G) will he find faith on the earth?”
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness(H) and looked down on everyone else,(I) Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray,(J) one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself(K) and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast(L) twice a week and give a tenth(M) of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast(N) and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’(O)
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(P)
The Little Children and Jesus(Q)
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child(R) will never enter it.”
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(S)
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(T)
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”(U)
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor,(V) and you will have treasure in heaven.(W) Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!(X) 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”(Y)
28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come(AA) eternal life.”(AB)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AC)
31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem,(AD) and everything that is written by the prophets(AE) about the Son of Man(AF) will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles.(AG) They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him(AH) and kill him.(AI) On the third day(AJ) he will rise again.”(AK)
34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.(AL)
A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight(AM)
35 As Jesus approached Jericho,(AN) a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”(AO)
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David,(AP) have mercy(AQ) on me!”
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”(AR)
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”(AS) 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.(AT)
