A parábola da viúva persistente
18 Um dia, Jesus contou-lhes uma parábola para ilustrar a necessidade de orarem constantemente, sem desfalecerem. 2 “Havia numa cidade um juiz que não respeitava a Deus e que desprezava toda a gente. 3 Certa viúva daquela cidade procurava-o com frequência, pedindo-lhe justiça contra alguém que a acusava. 4 Durante algum tempo o juiz não fez caso dela, mas por fim a sua presença começou a enervá-lo. ‘Eu não respeito nem a Deus nem aos homens’, disse consigo próprio. 5 ‘Mas esta mulher está a aborrecer-me. Vou tratar de lhe fazer justiça porque a sua insistência constante já me impacienta!’ ”
6 E o Senhor acrescentou: “Se mesmo um juiz injusto acabou por agir assim, 7 não acham que Deus fará certamente justiça aos seus escolhidos que lhe dirigem as suas orações dia e noite. Demorará a responder-lhes? 8 Com certeza pois que lhes dará uma resposta rápida! Mas a questão é esta: Quando eu, o Filho do Homem, voltar, quantas pessoas encontrarei que tenham fé?”
A parábola do fariseu e o cobrador de impostos
9 Contou então a seguinte parábola, a propósito daqueles que se gabam de serem justos, mas que desprezam os outros: 10 “Dois homens foram orar ao templo; um fariseu e um cobrador de impostos.
11 O fariseu orou assim: ‘Eu te agradeço, ó Deus, porque não sou pecador como as outras pessoas, desonestas, injustas, adúlteras. Nem sou como aquele cobrador de impostos ali! 12 Jejuo duas vezes por semana e dou a Deus um décimo de tudo o que ganho!’
13 O cobrador de impostos mantinha-se à distância e, enquanto orava, não ousava sequer erguer os olhos para o céu; antes batia no peito, exclamando: ‘Deus, tem piedade de mim, que sou pecador.’ 14 Digo-vos, quem voltou para casa perdoado foi este pecador e não o fariseu! Porque todo aquele que procura elevar-se será humilhado e todo aquele que se humilhar a si mesmo será elevado.”
Jesus e as crianças
(Mt 19.13-15; Mc 10.13-16)
15 Traziam-lhe crianças para que as abençoasse. Ao verem isso, os discípulos diziam-lhes que fossem embora. 16 Então Jesus chamou as crianças para junto de si e disse aos discípulos: “Deixem as crianças vir a mim! Não as devem impedir, porque o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como estas crianças. 17 É realmente como vos digo: quem não receber o reino de Deus como uma criança nunca entrará nele.”
A pergunta do homem rico
(Mt 19.16-30; Mc 10.17-31)
18 Certa vez, um líder fez-lhe esta pergunta: “Bom Mestre, que farei para obter a vida eterna?”
19 “Porque me chamas bom?”, perguntou-lhe Jesus. “Não há ninguém que seja bom, a não ser Deus[a]. 20 Sabes o que dizem os mandamentos: ‘Não adulteres, não mates, não roubes, não faças uma falsa acusação contra outra pessoa, honra o teu pai e tua mãe.’ ”[b]
21 “Desde criança que tenho obedecido a todos estes mandamentos”, respondeu o homem.
22 Jesus ouviu-o e retorquiu: “Falta-te ainda uma coisa: vende tudo o que tens, dá o dinheiro aos pobres e terás um tesouro nos céus. Vem e segue-me!” 23 Ao ouvir isto, o homem ficou triste, porque era muito rico.
24 Jesus, ao vê-lo assim triste, disse: “Como é difícil os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus! 25 É mais fácil um camelo passar pelo fundo duma agulha do que um rico entrar reino de Deus!”
26 Os que o ouviram dizer isto questionaram: “Então quem é que neste mundo poderá salvar-se?”
27 “O que humanamente falando é impossível, a Deus é possível”, respondeu-lhes.
28 Pedro disse: “Nós deixámos tudo para te seguir.”
29 Ele replicou-lhes: “É realmente como vos digo: não há ninguém que tenha deixado casa, mulher, irmãos, pais ou filhos por causa do reino de Deus, 30 que não venha a receber em recompensa muito mais neste mundo, e no mundo futuro terá a vida eterna.”
Jesus avisa de novo da sua morte
(Mt 20.17-19; Mc 10.32-34)
31 Tomando os doze à parte, disse-lhes: “Ouçam: subamos para Jerusalém e lá cumprir-se-á tudo o que foi escrito pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do Homem. 32 Será entregue aos gentios, que farão troça dele, o insultarão e cuspirão nele, 33 o açoitarão e matarão; mas ao terceiro dia ressuscitará.”
34 Eles, porém, não compreenderam o que Jesus dizia. O significado daquelas palavras estava escondido, de maneira que não conseguiram apanhar o sentido da conversa.
O mendigo cego é curado
(Mt 20.29-34; Mc 10.46-52)
35 Ao aproximarem-se de Jericó, encontraram um cego sentado à beira da estrada que pedia esmola. 36 Ouvindo o rumor da multidão, perguntou o que era aquilo. 37 Ao responderem-lhe que Jesus de Nazaré ia a passar, 38 clamou: “Jesus, Filho de David, tem misericórdia de mim!” 39 Os que caminhavam à frente repreendiam-no para que se calasse, mas ele clamava cada vez mais alto: “Filho de David, tem misericórdia de mim!”
40 Jesus parou e mandou que lhe trouxessem o cego. E perguntou-lhe: 41 “Que queres que te faça?” Respondeu-lhe: “Senhor, quero ver!”
42 “Vê! A tua fé curou-te!” 43 Num instante ficou a ver. E seguia Jesus, dando glória a Deus. E o mesmo faziam todos quantos assistiram a isto.

18 Jesus contou a seus discípulos uma parábola para mostrar-lhes que deviam orar sempre e nunca desanimar. 2 Disse ele: “Havia numa cidade um juiz que não temia a Deus nem se importava com as pessoas. 3 Uma viúva daquela cidade vinha a ele com frequência e dizia: ‘Faça-me justiça contra meu adversário’. 4 Por algum tempo, o juiz não lhe deu atenção, mas, por fim, disse a si mesmo: ‘Não temo a Deus e não me importo com as pessoas, 5 mas essa viúva está me irritando. Vou lhe fazer justiça, pois assim deixará de me importunar’”.
6 Então o Senhor disse: “Aprendam uma lição com o juiz injusto. 7 Acaso Deus não fará justiça a seus escolhidos que clamam a ele dia e noite? Continuará a adiar sua resposta? 8 Eu afirmo que ele lhes fará justiça, e rápido! Mas, quando o Filho do Homem voltar, quantas pessoas com fé ele encontrará na terra?”.
A parábola do fariseu e do cobrador de impostos
9 Em seguida, Jesus contou a seguinte parábola àqueles que confiavam em sua própria justiça e desprezavam os demais: 10 “Dois homens foram ao templo orar. Um deles era fariseu, e o outro, cobrador de impostos. 11 O fariseu, em pé, fazia esta oração: ‘Eu te agradeço, Deus, porque não sou como as demais pessoas: desonestas, pecadoras, adúlteras. E, com certeza, não sou como aquele cobrador de impostos. 12 Jejuo duas vezes por semana e dou o dízimo de tudo que ganho’.
13 “Mas o cobrador de impostos ficou a distância e não tinha coragem nem de levantar os olhos para o céu enquanto orava. Em vez disso, batia no peito e dizia: ‘Deus, tem misericórdia de mim, pois sou pecador’. 14 Eu lhes digo que foi o cobrador de impostos, e não o fariseu, quem voltou para casa justificado diante de Deus. Pois aqueles que se exaltam serão humilhados, e aqueles que se humilham serão exaltados”.
Jesus abençoa as crianças
15 Certo dia, trouxeram crianças para que Jesus pusesse as mãos sobre elas. Ao ver isso, os discípulos repreenderam aqueles que as traziam.
16 Jesus, porém, chamou as crianças para junto de si e disse aos discípulos: “Deixem que as crianças venham a mim. Não as impeçam, pois o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como elas. 17 Eu lhes digo a verdade: quem não receber o reino de Deus como uma criança de modo algum entrará nele”.
O homem rico
18 Certa vez, um homem de alta posição perguntou a Jesus: “Bom mestre, que devo fazer para herdar a vida eterna?”.
19 “Por que você me chama de bom?”, perguntou Jesus. “Apenas Deus é verdadeiramente bom. 20 Você conhece os mandamentos: ‘Não cometa adultério. Não mate. Não roube. Não dê falso testemunho. Honre seu pai e sua mãe’.”[a]
21 O homem respondeu: “Tenho obedecido a todos esses mandamentos desde a juventude”.
22 Quando Jesus ouviu sua resposta, disse: “Ainda há uma coisa que você não fez. Venda todos os seus bens e dê o dinheiro aos pobres. Então você terá um tesouro no céu. Depois, venha e siga-me”.
23 Ao ouvir essas palavras, o homem se entristeceu, pois era muito rico.
As recompensas do discipulado
24 Ao ver a tristeza daquele homem, Jesus disse: “Como é difícil os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus! 25 Na verdade, é mais fácil um camelo passar pelo buraco de uma agulha que um rico entrar no reino de Deus”.
26 Aqueles que o ouviram disseram: “Então quem pode ser salvo?”.
27 Jesus respondeu: “O que é impossível para as pessoas é possível para Deus”.
28 Pedro disse: “Deixamos nossos lares para segui-lo”.
29 Jesus respondeu: “Eu lhes garanto que todos que deixaram casa, esposa, irmãos, pais ou filhos por causa do reino de Deus 30 receberão neste mundo uma recompensa muitas vezes maior e, no mundo futuro, terão a vida eterna”.
Jesus prediz sua morte e ressurreição
31 Jesus chamou os Doze à parte e disse: “Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, onde tudo que foi escrito pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do Homem se cumprirá. 32 Ele será entregue aos gentios, e zombarão dele, o insultarão e cuspirão nele. 33 Eles o açoitarão e o matarão, mas no terceiro dia ele ressuscitará”.
34 Os discípulos, porém, não entenderam. O significado dessas palavras lhes estava oculto, e não sabiam do que ele falava.
Jesus cura um mendigo cego
35 Quando Jesus se aproximava de Jericó, havia um mendigo cego sentado à beira do caminho. 36 Ao ouvir o barulho da multidão que passava, perguntou o que estava acontecendo. 37 Disseram-lhe que Jesus de Nazaré estava passando por ali. 38 Então começou a gritar: “Jesus, Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
39 Os que estavam mais à frente o repreendiam e ordenavam que se calasse. Mas ele gritava ainda mais alto: “Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
40 Então Jesus parou e ordenou que lhe trouxessem o homem. Quando ele se aproximou, Jesus lhe perguntou: 41 “O que você quer que eu lhe faça?”.
“Senhor, eu quero ver!”, respondeu o homem.
42 E Jesus disse: “Receba a visão! Sua fé o curou”. 43 No mesmo instante, o homem passou a enxergar, e seguia Jesus, louvando a Deus. E todos que presenciaram isso também louvavam a Deus.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.(A) 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice(B) against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”(C)
6 And the Lord(D) said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out(E) to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man(F) comes,(G) will he find faith on the earth?”
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness(H) and looked down on everyone else,(I) Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray,(J) one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself(K) and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast(L) twice a week and give a tenth(M) of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast(N) and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’(O)
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(P)
The Little Children and Jesus(Q)
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child(R) will never enter it.”
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(S)
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(T)
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”(U)
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor,(V) and you will have treasure in heaven.(W) Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!(X) 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”(Y)
28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come(AA) eternal life.”(AB)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AC)
31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem,(AD) and everything that is written by the prophets(AE) about the Son of Man(AF) will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles.(AG) They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him(AH) and kill him.(AI) On the third day(AJ) he will rise again.”(AK)
34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.(AL)
A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight(AM)
35 As Jesus approached Jericho,(AN) a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”(AO)
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David,(AP) have mercy(AQ) on me!”
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”(AR)
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”(AS) 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.(AT)

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
