El que no se arrepiente perecerá
13 En aquella ocasión, algunos que habían llegado contaron a Jesús cómo Pilato había dado muerte a unos galileos cuando ellos ofrecían sus sacrificios.[a] 2 Jesús les respondió: «¿Pensáis que esos galileos, por haber sufrido así, eran más pecadores que todos los demás? 3 ¡Os digo que no! De la misma manera, todos vosotros pereceréis, a menos que os arrepientan. 4 ¿O pensáis que aquellos dieciocho que fueron aplastados por la torre de Siloé eran más culpables que todos los demás habitantes de Jerusalén? 5 ¡Os digo que no! De la misma manera, todos vosotros pereceréis, a menos que os arrepintáis».
6 Entonces les contó esta parábola: «Un hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viñedo, pero, cuando fue a buscar fruto en ella, no encontró nada. 7 Así que le dijo al viñador: “Mira, ya hace tres años que vengo a buscar fruto en esta higuera, y no he encontrado nada. ¡Córtala! ¿Para qué ha de ocupar terreno?” 8 “Señor —le contestó el viñador—, déjala todavía por un año más, para que yo pueda cavar a su alrededor y echarle abono. 9 Así tal vez en adelante dé fruto; si no, córtala”».
Jesús sana en sábado a una mujer encorvada
10 Un sábado Jesús estaba enseñando en una de las sinagogas, 11 y estaba allí una mujer que por causa de un demonio llevaba dieciocho años enferma. Andaba encorvada y de ningún modo podía enderezarse. 12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y le dijo:
―Mujer, quedas libre de tu enfermedad.
13 Al mismo tiempo, puso las manos sobre ella, y al instante la mujer se enderezó y empezó a alabar a Dios. 14 Indignado porque Jesús había sanado en sábado, el jefe de la sinagoga intervino, dirigiéndose a la gente:
―Hay seis días en que se puede trabajar, así que venid esos días para ser sanados, y no el sábado.
15 ―¡Hipócritas! —le contestó el Señor—. ¿Acaso no desata cada uno de vosotros su buey o su burro en sábado, y lo saca del establo para llevarlo a tomar agua? 16 Sin embargo, a esta mujer, que es hija de Abraham, y a quien Satanás tenía atada durante dieciocho largos años, ¿no se le debía quitar esta cadena en sábado?
17 Cuando razonó así, quedaron humillados todos sus adversarios, pero la gente estaba encantada por tantas maravillas que hacía.
Parábolas del grano de mostaza y de la levadura(A)(B)
18 ―¿A qué se parece el reino de Dios? —continuó Jesús—. ¿Con qué voy a compararlo? 19 Se parece a un grano de mostaza que un hombre sembró en su huerto. Creció hasta convertirse en un árbol, y las aves anidaron en sus ramas.
20 Volvió a decir:
―¿Con qué voy a comparar el reino de Dios? 21 Es como la levadura que una mujer tomó y mezcló con una gran cantidad[b] de harina, hasta que fermentó toda la masa.
La puerta estrecha
22 Continuando su viaje a Jerusalén, Jesús enseñaba en los pueblos y aldeas por donde pasaba.
23 ―Señor, ¿son pocos los que van a salvarse? —le preguntó uno.
24 ―Esforzaos por entrar por la puerta estrecha —contestó—, porque os digo que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán. 25 Tan pronto como el dueño de la casa se haya levantado a cerrar la puerta, desde afuera os pondréis a golpear la puerta, diciendo: “Señor, ábrenos”. Pero él os contestará: “No sé quiénes sois”. 26 Entonces diréis: “Comimos y bebimos contigo, y tú enseñaste en nuestras plazas”. 27 Pero él os contestará: “Os repito que no sé quiénes sois. ¡Apartaos de mí, todos vosotros hacedores de injusticia!”
28 »Allí habrá llanto y crujir de dientes cuando veáis en el reino de Dios a Abraham, Isaac, Jacob y a todos los profetas, mientras a vosotros os echan fuera. 29 Habrá quienes lleguen del oriente y del occidente, del norte y del sur, para sentarse al banquete en el reino de Dios. 30 En efecto, hay últimos que serán primeros, y primeros que serán últimos».
Lamento de Jesús sobre Jerusalén(C)
31 En ese momento se acercaron a Jesús unos fariseos y le dijeron:
―Sal de aquí y vete a otro lugar, porque Herodes quiere matarte.
32 Él les contestó:
―Id y decidle a ese zorro: “Mira, hoy y mañana seguiré expulsando demonios y sanando a la gente, y al tercer día terminaré lo que debo hacer”. 33 Tengo que seguir adelante hoy, mañana y pasado mañana, porque no puede ser que muera un profeta fuera de Jerusalén.
34 »¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que a ti se envían! ¡Cuántas veces quise reunir a tus hijos, como reúne la gallina a sus pollitos debajo de sus alas, pero no quisiste! 35 Pues bien, vuestra casa va a quedar abandonada. Y os advierto que ya no volveréis a verme hasta el día que digáis: “¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!”»[c]

Importancia de la conversión
13 Por aquel mismo tiempo fueron unos a ver a Jesús, y le contaron que Pilato había mezclado la sangre de unos hombres de Galilea con la sangre de los animales que ellos habían ofrecido en sacrificio.
2 Jesús les dijo: «¿Piensan ustedes que esto les pasó a esos hombres de Galilea por ser ellos más pecadores que los otros de su país? 3 Les digo que no; y si ustedes mismos no se vuelven a Dios, también morirán. 4 ¿O creen que aquellos dieciocho que murieron cuando la torre de Siloé les cayó encima eran más culpables que los otros que vivían en Jerusalén? 5 Les digo que no; y si ustedes mismos no se vuelven a Dios, también morirán.»
La parábola de la higuera sin fruto
6 Jesús les contó esta parábola: «Un hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viñedo, y fue a ver si daba higos, pero no encontró ninguno. 7 Así que le dijo al hombre que cuidaba el viñedo: “Mira, por tres años seguidos he venido a esta higuera en busca de fruto, pero nunca lo encuentro. Córtala, pues; ¿para qué ha de ocupar terreno inútilmente?” 8 Pero el que cuidaba el terreno le contestó: “Señor, déjala todavía este año; voy a aflojarle la tierra y a echarle abono. 9 Con eso tal vez dará fruto; y si no, ya la cortarás.”»
Jesús sana en sábado a una mujer enferma
10 Un sábado Jesús se había puesto a enseñar en una sinagoga; 11 y había allí una mujer que estaba enferma desde hacía dieciocho años. Un espíritu maligno la había dejado jorobada, y no podía enderezarse para nada. 12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y le dijo:
—Mujer, ya estás libre de tu enfermedad.
13 Entonces puso las manos sobre ella, y al momento la mujer se enderezó y comenzó a alabar a Dios. 14 Pero el jefe de la sinagoga se enojó, porque Jesús la había sanado en sábado, y dijo a la gente:
—Hay seis días para trabajar; vengan en esos días a ser sanados, y no en sábado.
15 El Señor le contestó:
—Hipócritas, ¿no desata cualquiera de ustedes su buey o su burro en sábado, para llevarlo a tomar agua? 16 Pues a esta mujer, que es descendiente de Abraham y que Satanás tenía atada con esta enfermedad desde hace dieciocho años, ¿acaso no se la debía desatar aunque fuera sábado?
17 Cuando Jesús dijo esto, sus enemigos quedaron avergonzados; pero toda la gente se alegraba al ver las grandes cosas que él hacía.
La parábola de la semilla de mostaza(A)
18 Jesús dijo también: «¿A qué se parece el reino de Dios y con qué puedo compararlo? 19 Es como una semilla de mostaza que un hombre siembra en su campo, y que crece hasta llegar a ser como un árbol, tan grande que las aves se posan en sus ramas.»
La parábola de la levadura(B)
20 También dijo Jesús: «¿Con qué puedo comparar el reino de Dios? 21 Es como la levadura que una mujer mezcla con tres medidas de harina para hacer fermentar toda la masa.»
La puerta angosta(C)
22 En su camino a Jerusalén, Jesús enseñaba en los pueblos y aldeas por donde pasaba. 23 Uno le preguntó:
—Señor, ¿son pocos los que se salvan?
Y él contestó:
24 —Procuren entrar por la puerta angosta; porque les digo que muchos querrán entrar, y no podrán. 25 Después que el dueño de la casa se levante y cierre la puerta, ustedes, los que están afuera, llamarán y dirán: “Señor, ábrenos.” Pero él les contestará: “No sé de dónde son ustedes.” 26 Entonces comenzarán ustedes a decir: “Hemos comido y bebido contigo, y tú enseñaste en nuestras calles.” 27 Pero él les contestará: “No sé de dónde son ustedes. ¡Apártense de mí, malhechores!” 28 Entonces vendrán el llanto y la desesperación, al ver que Abraham, Isaac, Jacob y todos los profetas están en el reino de Dios, y que ustedes son echados fuera. 29 Porque va a venir gente del norte y del sur, del este y del oeste, para sentarse a comer en el reino de Dios. 30 Entonces algunos de los que ahora son los últimos serán los primeros, y algunos que ahora son los primeros serán los últimos.
Jesús llora por Jerusalén(D)
31 También entonces llegaron algunos fariseos, y le dijeron a Jesús:
—Vete de aquí, porque Herodes te quiere matar.
32 Él les contestó:
—Vayan y díganle a ese zorro: “Mira, hoy y mañana expulso a los demonios y sano a los enfermos, y pasado mañana termino.” 33 Pero tengo que seguir mi camino hoy, mañana y el día siguiente, porque no es posible que un profeta muera fuera de Jerusalén.
34 »¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los mensajeros que Dios te envía! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollitos bajo las alas, pero ustedes no quisieron! 35 Pues miren, el hogar de ustedes va a quedar abandonado; y les digo que no volverán a verme hasta que llegue el tiempo en que ustedes digan: “¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!”

Repent or Perish
13 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate(A) had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?(B) 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam(C) fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent,(D) you too will all perish.”
6 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.(E) 7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down!(F) Why should it use up the soil?’
8 “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”
Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath
10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,(G) 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years.(H) She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13 Then he put his hands on her,(I) and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath,(J) the synagogue leader(K) said to the people, “There are six days for work.(L) So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”
15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?(M) 16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham,(N) whom Satan(O) has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
17 When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated,(P) but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast(Q)(R)
18 Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God(S) like?(T) What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree,(U) and the birds perched in its branches.”(V)
20 Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[a] of flour until it worked all through the dough.”(W)
The Narrow Door
22 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.(X) 23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”
He said to them, 24 “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door,(Y) because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25 Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’
“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’(Z)
26 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
27 “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’(AA)
28 “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth,(AB) when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. 29 People will come from east and west(AC) and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. 30 Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”(AD)
Jesus’ Sorrow for Jerusalem(AE)(AF)
31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod(AG) wants to kill you.”
32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’(AH) 33 In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet(AI) can die outside Jerusalem!
34 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,(AJ) and you were not willing. 35 Look, your house is left to you desolate.(AK) I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[b]”(AL)

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

Cut it down; why does it [b]use up the ground?’ 8 But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 [c]And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can (B)cut it down.’ ”
A Spirit of Infirmity
10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way [d]raise herself up. 12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your (C)infirmity.” 13 (D)And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had (E)healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, (F)“There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and (G)not on the Sabbath day.”
15 The Lord then answered him and said, [e]“Hypocrite! (H)Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? 16 So ought not this woman, (I)being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” 17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were (J)done by Him.

18 (L)Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a [f]large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”

20 And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like [g]leaven, which a woman took and hid in three (N)measures[h] of meal till it was all leavened.”

(Y)Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ 28 (Z)There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, (AA)when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. 29 They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 (AB)And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”
31 [i]On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”
32 And He said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day (AC)I shall be [j]perfected.’ 33 Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.
Jesus Laments over Jerusalem(AD)
34 (AE)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! 35 See! (AF)Your house is left to you desolate; and [k]assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, (AG)‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”
