Arrepentíos o pereceréis
13 En esa misma ocasión había allí algunos que le contaron acerca de los galileos cuya sangre Pilato(A) había mezclado[a] con la de sus sacrificios. 2 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: ¿Pensáis que estos galileos eran más pecadores(B) que todos los demás galileos, porque sufrieron esto? 3 Os digo que no; al contrario, si no os arrepentís, todos pereceréis igualmente. 4 ¿O pensáis que aquellos dieciocho, sobre los que cayó la torre en Siloé(C) y los mató, eran más deudores[b](D) que todos los hombres que habitan en Jerusalén? 5 Os digo que no; al contrario, si no os arrepentís, todos pereceréis igualmente.
Parábola de la higuera estéril
6 Y les dijo esta parábola: Cierto hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viña; y fue a buscar fruto de ella, y no lo halló(E). 7 Y dijo al viñador: «Mira, hace tres años que vengo a buscar fruto en esta higuera, y no lo hallo. Córtala(F). ¿Por qué ha de cansar la tierra?». 8 El entonces, respondiendo, le dijo: «Señor, déjala por este año todavía, hasta que yo cave alrededor de ella, y le eche abono, 9 y si da fruto el año que viene, bien; y si no, córtala».
Jesús hace un milagro en día de reposo
10 Jesús estaba enseñando en una de las sinagogas un día de reposo(G), 11 y[c] había allí una mujer que durante dieciocho años había tenido una enfermedad causada por un espíritu(H); estaba encorvada, y de ninguna manera se podía enderezar. 12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y le dijo: Mujer, has quedado libre de tu enfermedad. 13 Y puso las manos sobre ella(I), y al instante se enderezó y glorificaba a Dios(J). 14 Pero el oficial de la sinagoga(K), indignado porque Jesús había sanado en día de reposo(L), reaccionó diciendo[d] a la multitud: Hay seis días en los cuales se debe trabajar(M); venid, pues, en esos días y sed sanados, y no en día de reposo. 15 Entonces el Señor(N) le respondió, y dijo: Hipócritas, ¿no desata cada uno de vosotros su buey o su asno del pesebre en día de reposo(O) y lo lleva a beber? 16 Y esta, que es hija de Abraham(P), a la que Satanás ha tenido atada durante dieciocho largos años(Q), ¿no debía ser libertada de esta ligadura en día de reposo? 17 Y al decir Él esto, todos sus adversarios se avergonzaban, pero toda la multitud se regocijaba(R) por todas las cosas gloriosas hechas por Él.
Parábola del grano de mostaza
18 Entonces (S)decía: ¿A qué es semejante el reino de Dios y con qué lo compararé(T)? 19 Es semejante a un grano de mostaza que un hombre tomó y echó en su huerto; y creció y se hizo árbol, y las aves del cielo anidaron en sus ramas.
Parábola de la levadura
20 Y volvió a decir: ¿A qué compararé el reino de Dios(U)? 21 (V)Es semejante a la levadura que una mujer tomó y escondió en tres medidas[e] de harina hasta que todo quedó fermentado.
La puerta estrecha
22 Pasaba Jesús por ciudades y aldeas, enseñando, mientras proseguía camino a Jerusalén(W). 23 Y alguien le dijo: Señor, ¿son pocos los que se salvan? Y Él les dijo: 24 Esforzaos por entrar por la puerta estrecha(X), porque os digo que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán. 25 Después que el dueño de la casa se levante y cierre la puerta(Y), y vosotros, estando fuera, comencéis a llamar a la puerta, diciendo: «Señor, ábrenos(Z)», Él[f] respondiendo, os dirá: «No sé de dónde sois(AA)». 26 Entonces comenzaréis a decir(AB): «Comimos y bebimos en tu presencia, y enseñaste en nuestras calles»; 27 y Él dirá: «Os digo que no sé de dónde sois(AC); apartaos de mí, todos los que hacéis iniquidad(AD)». 28 Allí será el llanto y el crujir de dientes(AE) cuando veáis a Abraham, a Isaac, a Jacob y a todos los profetas en el reino de Dios, pero vosotros echados fuera. 29 Y vendrán del oriente y del occidente, del norte y del sur, y se sentarán[g] a la mesa en el reino de Dios(AF). 30 Y he aquí, hay últimos que serán primeros, y hay primeros que serán últimos(AG).
Lamento sobre Jerusalén
31 En ese momento llegaron unos fariseos diciéndole: Sal y vete de aquí, porque Herodes(AH) te quiere matar. 32 Y Él les dijo: Id y decidle a ese zorro: «Yo[h] expulso demonios, y hago curaciones hoy y mañana, y al tercer día cumplo mi propósito[i](AI)». 33 Sin embargo, debo seguir mi camino, hoy, mañana y pasado mañana(AJ); porque no puede ser que un profeta(AK) muera fuera de Jerusalén. 34 ¡(AL)Jerusalén, Jerusalén, la que mata a los profetas y apedrea a los que le son enviados! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como la gallina a sus pollitos debajo de sus alas(AM), y no quisiste! 35 He aquí, vuestra casa se os deja desierta[j]; y os digo que no me veréis más, hasta que llegue el tiempo en que digáis: «Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor(AN)».

El que no se arrepiente perecerá
13 En aquella ocasión, algunos que habían llegado contaron a Jesús cómo Pilato había dado muerte a unos galileos cuando ellos ofrecían sus sacrificios.[a] 2 Jesús respondió: «¿Piensan ustedes que esos galileos por haber sufrido así eran más pecadores que todos los demás galileos? 3 ¡Les digo que no! De la misma manera, todos ustedes perecerán a menos que se arrepientan. 4 ¿O piensan que aquellos dieciocho que fueron aplastados por la torre de Siloé eran más culpables que todos los demás habitantes de Jerusalén? 5 ¡Les digo que no! De la misma manera, todos ustedes perecerán a menos que se arrepientan».
6 Entonces les contó esta parábola: «Un hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viñedo, pero cuando fue a buscar fruto en ella, no encontró nada. 7 Así que dijo al viñador: “Mira, ya hace tres años que vengo a buscar fruto en esta higuera y no he encontrado nada. ¡Córtala! ¿Para qué ha de ocupar terreno?”. 8 “Señor —contestó el viñador—, déjela todavía por un año más, para que yo pueda cavar a su alrededor y echarle abono. 9 Tal vez así, más adelante dé fruto; de lo contrario, córtela”».
Jesús sana en sábado a una mujer encorvada
10 Un sábado, Jesús estaba enseñando en una de las sinagogas 11 y estaba allí una mujer que por causa de un espíritu llevaba dieciocho años enferma. Andaba encorvada y de ningún modo podía enderezarse. 12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y dijo:
—¡Mujer, quedas libre de tu enfermedad!
13 Al mismo tiempo, puso las manos sobre ella; al instante la mujer se enderezó y empezó a alabar a Dios. 14 Indignado porque Jesús había sanado en sábado, el jefe de la sinagoga intervino, dirigiéndose a la gente:
—Hay seis días en que se puede trabajar, así que vengan esos días para ser sanados y no el sábado.
15 —¡Hipócritas! —le contestó el Señor—. ¿Acaso no desata cada uno de ustedes su buey o su burro en sábado y lo saca del establo para llevarlo a tomar agua? 16 Sin embargo, a esta mujer, que es hija de Abraham y a quien Satanás tenía atada durante dieciocho largos años, ¿no se le debía quitar esta cadena en sábado?
17 Cuando razonó así, quedaron humillados todos sus adversarios, pero la gente estaba encantada de tantas maravillas que él hacía.
Parábolas del grano de mostaza y de la levadura(A)(B)
18 —¿A qué se parece el reino de Dios? —continuó Jesús—. ¿Con qué voy a compararlo? 19 Se parece a una semilla de mostaza que un hombre sembró en su huerto. Creció hasta convertirse en un árbol y las aves anidaron en sus ramas.
20 Volvió a decir:
—¿Con qué voy a comparar el reino de Dios? 21 Es como la levadura que una mujer tomó y mezcló con tres medidas[b] de harina, hasta que hizo crecer toda la masa.
La puerta estrecha
22 Continuando su viaje a Jerusalén, Jesús enseñaba en los pueblos y aldeas por donde pasaba.
23 —Señor, ¿son pocos los que van a salvarse? —le preguntó uno.
24 —Esfuércense por entrar por la puerta estrecha —contestó—, porque les digo que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán. 25 Tan pronto como el dueño de la casa se haya levantado a cerrar la puerta, ustedes desde afuera se pondrán a golpear la puerta, diciendo: “¡Señor, ábrenos!”. Pero él les contestará: “No sé de dónde son ustedes”. 26 Entonces dirán: “Comimos y bebimos contigo, y tú enseñaste en nuestras plazas”. 27 Pero él les contestará: “Les repito que no sé de dónde son ustedes. ¡Apártense de mí, todos ustedes hacedores de injusticia!”.
28 »Allí habrá llanto y crujir de dientes cuando vean en el reino de Dios a Abraham, Isaac, Jacob y a todos los profetas, mientras a ustedes los echan fuera. 29 Habrá quienes lleguen del oriente y del occidente, del norte y del sur, y participarán en el banquete en el reino de Dios. 30 En efecto, hay últimos que serán primeros y primeros que serán últimos.
Lamento de Jesús sobre Jerusalén(C)
31 En ese momento se acercaron a Jesús unos fariseos y dijeron:
—Sal de aquí y vete a otro lugar, porque Herodes quiere matarte.
32 Él contestó:
—Vayan y díganle a ese zorro: “Mira, hoy y mañana seguiré expulsando demonios y sanando a la gente. Al tercer día terminaré lo que debo hacer”. 33 Pero tengo que seguir adelante hoy, mañana y pasado mañana, porque no puede ser que muera un profeta fuera de Jerusalén.
34 »¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que se te envían! ¡Cuántas veces quise reunir a tus hijos, como reúne la gallina a sus pollitos debajo de sus alas, pero no quisiste! 35 Pues bien, la casa de ustedes va a quedar abandonada. Y les advierto que ya no volverán a verme hasta que digan: “¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!”.[c]

Change Your Hearts
13 At that time some people were there with Jesus. They told him about what had happened to some people from Galilee. Pilate[a] killed those people while they were worshiping. He mixed their blood with the blood of the animals they were sacrificing to God. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think this happened to them because they were more sinful than all others from Galilee? 3 No, they were not! But if all of you don’t change your hearts and lives, then you will be destroyed as they were! 4 What about those 18 people who died when the tower of Siloam fell on them? Do you think they were more sinful than all the others who live in Jerusalem? 5 They were not! But I tell you, if you don’t change your hearts and lives, then you will all be destroyed too!”
The Useless Tree
6 Jesus told this story: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came looking for some fruit on the tree, but he found none. 7 So the man said to his servant who took care of his vineyard, ‘I have been looking for fruit on this tree for three years, but I never find any. Cut it down! Why should it waste the ground?’ 8 But the servant answered, ‘Master, let the tree have one more year to produce fruit. Let me dig up the dirt around it and put on some fertilizer. 9 Maybe the tree will produce fruit next year. If the tree still doesn’t produce fruit, then you can cut it down.’”
Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
10 Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day. 11 In the synagogue there was a woman who had an evil spirit in her. This spirit had made the woman a cripple for 18 years. Her back was always bent; she could not stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, your sickness has left you!” 13 Jesus put his hands on her. Immediately she was able to stand up straight and began praising God.
14 The synagogue leader was angry because Jesus healed on the Sabbath day. He said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come to be healed on one of those days. Don’t come for healing on the Sabbath day.”
15 The Lord answered, “You people are hypocrites! All of you untie your work animals and lead them to drink water every day—even on the Sabbath day! 16 This woman that I healed is our Jewish sister. But Satan has held her for 18 years. Surely it is not wrong for her to be freed from her sickness on a Sabbath day!” 17 When Jesus said this, all the men who were criticizing him were ashamed. And all the people were happy for the wonderful things Jesus was doing.
Stories of Mustard Seed and Yeast
18 Then Jesus said, “What is God’s kingdom like? What can I compare it with? 19 God’s kingdom is like the seed of the mustard plant.[b] A man plants this seed in his garden. The seed grows and becomes a tree. The wild birds build nests on its branches.”
20 Jesus said again, “What can I compare God’s kingdom with? 21 It is like yeast that a woman mixes into a big bowl of flour. The yeast makes all the dough rise.”
The Narrow Door
22 Jesus was teaching in every town and village. He continued to travel toward Jerusalem. 23 Someone said to Jesus, “Lord, how many people will be saved? Only a few?”
Jesus said, 24 “Try hard to enter through the narrow door that opens the way to heaven! Many people will try to enter there, but they will not be able. 25 A man gets up and closes the door of his house. You can stand outside and knock on the door. You can say, ‘Sir, open the door for us!’ But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you! Where did you come from?’ 26 Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you. You taught in the streets of our town.’ 27 But he will say to you, ‘I don’t know you! Where did you come from? Go away from me! All of you do evil!’ 28 You will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God’s kingdom. But you will be thrown outside. Then you will cry and grind your teeth with pain. 29 People will come from the east, west, north, and south. They will sit down at the table in the kingdom of God. 30 Those who are last now will be first in the future. And those who are first now will be last in the future.”
Jesus Will Die in Jerusalem
31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Go away from here! Herod wants to kill you!”
32 Jesus said to them, “Go tell that fox Herod, ‘Today and tomorrow I am forcing demons out of people and finishing my work of healing. Then, on the third day, I will reach my goal.’ 33 Yet I must be on my way today and tomorrow and the next day. Surely it cannot be right for a prophet to be killed anywhere except in Jerusalem.
34 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets. You kill with stones those men that God has sent you. Many times I wanted to help your people. I wanted to gather them together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you did not let me. 35 Now your home will be left completely empty. I tell you, you will not see me again until that time when you will say, ‘God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord.’”[c]

18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?
19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?
21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.
32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
