Il perdono e la fede
17 (A)Gesù disse ai suoi[a] discepoli: «È impossibile che non avvengano scandali, ma guai a colui per colpa del quale avvengono! 2 Sarebbe meglio per lui che una macina da mulino[b] gli fosse messa al collo e fosse gettato nel mare, piuttosto che scandalizzare uno solo di questi piccoli. 3 State attenti a voi stessi! Se tuo fratello pecca [contro di te], riprendilo; e se si ravvede, perdonalo. 4 Se ha peccato contro di te sette volte al giorno, e sette volte [al giorno] torna da te[c] e ti dice: “Mi pento”, perdonalo».
5 Allora gli apostoli dissero al Signore: «Aumentaci la fede!» 6 Il Signore disse: «Se aveste fede quanto un granello di senape, potreste dire a questo sicomoro: “Sràdicati e trapiàntati nel mare”, e vi ubbidirebbe.
Dovere del servo
7 (B)«Se uno di voi ha un servo che ara o bada alle pecore, gli dirà forse, quando quello torna a casa dai campi: “Vieni subito a metterti a tavola”? 8 Non gli dirà invece: “Preparami la cena, rimbòccati le vesti e servimi finché io abbia mangiato e bevuto, poi mangerai e berrai tu”? 9 Si ritiene forse obbligato verso il servo[d] perché ha fatto quello che gli era stato comandato? [Non penso.] 10 Così, anche voi, quando avrete fatto tutto ciò che vi è comandato, dite: “Noi siamo servi inutili; abbiamo fatto quello che eravamo in obbligo di fare”».
Gesù guarisce dieci lebbrosi
11 (C)Nel recarsi a Gerusalemme, Gesù passava sui confini della Samaria e della Galilea. 12 E mentre entrava in un villaggio, gli vennero incontro dieci uomini lebbrosi, i quali si fermarono a distanza 13 e alzarono la voce, dicendo: «Gesù, Maestro, abbi pietà di noi!» 14 Vedutili, egli disse loro: «Andate a mostrarvi ai sacerdoti». E, mentre andavano, furono purificati. 15 Uno di loro, vedendo che era guarito, tornò indietro, glorificando Dio ad alta voce; 16 e si gettò ai piedi di Gesù con la faccia a terra, ringraziandolo. Or questi era un Samaritano. 17 Gesù, rispondendo, disse: «I dieci non sono stati tutti purificati? Dove sono gli altri nove? 18 Non si è trovato nessuno che sia tornato per dar gloria a Dio tranne questo straniero?» 19 E gli disse: «Àlzati e va’; la tua fede ti ha salvato».
20 (D)Interrogato poi dai farisei sul quando verrebbe il regno di Dio, rispose loro: «Il regno di Dio non viene in modo da attirare gli sguardi; né si dirà: 21 “Eccolo qui”, o: “Eccolo là”; perché, ecco, il regno di Dio è in mezzo a voi[e]».
Gesù annuncia la sua seconda venuta
22 (E)Disse pure ai suoi discepoli: «Verranno giorni in cui desidererete vedere anche uno solo dei giorni del Figlio dell’uomo, e non lo vedrete. 23 E vi si dirà: “Eccolo là”, {o:} “eccolo qui”. Non andate, e non li seguite; 24 perché com’è il lampo che balenando risplende da una estremità all’altra del cielo, così sarà il Figlio dell’uomo {nel suo giorno}. 25 Ma prima bisogna che egli soffra molte cose e sia respinto da questa generazione.
26 Come avvenne ai giorni di Noè, così pure avverrà ai giorni del Figlio dell’uomo. 27 Si mangiava, si beveva, si prendeva moglie, si andava a marito, fino al giorno in cui Noè entrò nell’arca, e venne il diluvio che li fece perire tutti. 28 Similmente, come avvenne ai giorni[f] di Lot, si mangiava, si beveva, si comprava, si vendeva, si piantava, si costruiva; 29 ma nel giorno in cui Lot uscì da Sodoma piovve dal cielo fuoco e zolfo, che li fece perire tutti. 30 Lo stesso avverrà nel giorno in cui il Figlio dell’uomo sarà manifestato.
31 In quel giorno, chi sarà sulla terrazza e avrà le sue cose in casa, non scenda a prenderle; così pure chi sarà nei campi non torni indietro. 32 Ricordatevi della moglie di Lot. 33 Chi cercherà di salvare[g] la sua vita la perderà, ma chi la perderà la preserverà. 34 Io vi dico: in quella notte, due saranno in un letto; l’uno sarà preso e l’altro lasciato. 35 Due donne macineranno assieme; l’una sarà presa e l’altra lasciata. 36 [Due uomini saranno nei campi; l’uno sarà preso e l’altro lasciato[h].]»
37 I discepoli risposero: «Dove sarà, Signore?» Ed egli disse loro: «Dove sarà il corpo, là pure[i] si raduneranno le aquile[j]».

Lo scandalo
17 Disse ancora ai suoi discepoli: «E' inevitabile che avvengano scandali, ma guai a colui per cui avvengono. 2 E' meglio per lui che gli sia messa al collo una pietra da mulino e venga gettato nel mare, piuttosto che scandalizzare uno di questi piccoli. 3 State attenti a voi stessi!
Correzione fraterna
Se un tuo fratello pecca, rimproveralo; ma se si pente, perdonagli. 4 E se pecca sette volte al giorno contro di te e sette volte ti dice: Mi pento, tu gli perdonerai».
Potenza della fede
5 Gli apostoli dissero al Signore: 6 «Aumenta la nostra fede!». Il Signore rispose: «Se aveste fede quanto un granellino di senapa, potreste dire a questo gelso: Sii sradicato e trapiantato nel mare, ed esso vi ascolterebbe.
Servire con umiltà
7 Chi di voi, se ha un servo ad arare o a pascolare il gregge, gli dirà quando rientra dal campo: Vieni subito e mettiti a tavola? 8 Non gli dirà piuttosto: Preparami da mangiare, rimboccati la veste e servimi, finché io abbia mangiato e bevuto, e dopo mangerai e berrai anche tu? 9 Si riterrà obbligato verso il suo servo, perché ha eseguito gli ordini ricevuti? 10 Così anche voi, quando avrete fatto tutto quello che vi è stato ordinato, dite: Siamo servi inutili. Abbiamo fatto quanto dovevamo fare».
I dieci lebbrosi
11 Durante il viaggio verso Gerusalemme, Gesù attraversò la Samaria e la Galilea. 12 Entrando in un villaggio, gli vennero incontro dieci lebbrosi i quali, fermatisi a distanza, 13 alzarono la voce, dicendo: «Gesù maestro, abbi pietà di noi!». 14 Appena li vide, Gesù disse: «Andate a presentarvi ai sacerdoti». E mentre essi andavano, furono sanati. 15 Uno di loro, vedendosi guarito, tornò indietro lodando Dio a gran voce; 16 e si gettò ai piedi di Gesù per ringraziarlo. Era un Samaritano. 17 Ma Gesù osservò: «Non sono stati guariti tutti e dieci? E gli altri nove dove sono? 18 Non si è trovato chi tornasse a render gloria a Dio, all'infuori di questo straniero?». E gli disse: 19 «Alzati e và; la tua fede ti ha salvato!».
La venuta del regno di Dio
20 Interrogato dai farisei: «Quando verrà il regno di Dio?», rispose: 21 «Il regno di Dio non viene in modo da attirare l'attenzione, e nessuno dirà: Eccolo qui, o: eccolo là. Perché il regno di Dio è in mezzo a voi!».
Il giorno del Figlio dell'uomo
22 Disse ancora ai discepoli: «Verrà un tempo in cui desidererete vedere anche uno solo dei giorni del Figlio dell'uomo, ma non lo vedrete. 23 Vi diranno: Eccolo là, o: eccolo qua; non andateci, non seguiteli. 24 Perché come il lampo, guizzando, brilla da un capo all'altro del cielo, così sarà il Figlio dell'uomo nel suo giorno. 25 Ma prima è necessario che egli soffra molto e venga ripudiato da questa generazione. 26 Come avvenne al tempo di Noè, così sarà nei giorni del Figlio dell'uomo: 27 mangiavano, bevevano, si ammogliavano e si maritavano, fino al giorno in cui Noè entrò nell'arca e venne il diluvio e li fece perire tutti. 28 Come avvenne anche al tempo di Lot: mangiavano, bevevano, compravano, vendevano, piantavano, costruivano; 29 ma nel giorno in cui Lot uscì da Sòdoma piovve fuoco e zolfo dal cielo e li fece perire tutti. 30 Così sarà nel giorno in cui il Figlio dell'uomo si rivelerà. 31 In quel giorno, chi si troverà sulla terrazza, se le sue cose sono in casa, non scenda a prenderle; così chi si troverà nel campo, non torni indietro. 32 Ricordatevi della moglie di Lot. 33 Chi cercherà di salvare la propria vita la perderà, chi invece la perde la salverà. 34 Vi dico: in quella notte due si troveranno in un letto: l'uno verrà preso e l'altro lasciato; 35 due donne staranno a macinare nello stesso luogo: l'una verrà presa e l'altra lasciata». 36 . 37 Allora i discepoli gli chiesero: «Dove, Signore?». Ed egli disse loro: «Dove sarà il cadavere, là si raduneranno anche gli avvoltoi».

Forgiveness, faith and obedience
17 Jesus said to his disciples, “There are bound to be things that trip people up; but woe betide the person who brings them about! 2 It would be better to have a millstone hung around your neck, and be thrown into the sea, than to trip up one of these little ones. 3 So watch out for yourselves.
“If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he apologizes, forgive him. 4 Even if he sins against you seven times, and turns round seven times and says ‘sorry’ to you, you must forgive him.”
5 The apostles said to the master, “Give us greater faith!”
6 “If you had faith,” replied the master, “as a grain of mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
7 “Supposing one of you has a slave ploughing or keeping sheep out in the field. When he comes in, what will you say? ‘Come here at once, and sit down for a meal?’ 8 No; you will be far more likely to say, ‘Get something ready for me to eat! Get properly dressed, and wait on me while I eat and drink! After that you can have something to eat and drink yourself.’ 9 Will you thank the slave because he did what you told him?
10 “That’s how it is with you. When you’ve done everything you’re told, say this: ‘We’re just ordinary slaves. All we’ve done is what we were supposed to do.’ ”
Ten men healed
11 As Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, he passed along the borderlands between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into one particular village he was met by ten men with virulent skin diseases who stayed at some distance from him.
13 “Jesus, Master!” they called out loudly. “Have pity on us!”
14 When Jesus saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were healed.
15 One of them, seeing that he had been healed, turned back and gave glory to God at the top of his voice. 16 He fell on his face in front of Jesus’ feet and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.
17 “There were ten of you healed, weren’t there?” responded Jesus. “Where are the nine? 18 Is it really the case that the only one who had the decency to give God the glory was this foreigner?
19 “Get up, and be on your way,” he said to him. “Your faith has saved you.”
The coming of the kingdom
20 The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was coming.
“God’s kingdom,” replied Jesus, “isn’t the sort of thing you can watch for and see coming. 21 People won’t say ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘Look, over there!’ No: God’s kingdom is within your grasp.”
22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will long to see one of the days of the son of man, and you won’t see it. 23 They will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Don’t go off or follow them. 24 The son of man in his day will be like lightning that shines from one end of the sky to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
26 “What will it be like in the days of the son of man? It will be like the days of Noah. 27 People were eating and drinking, they were getting married and giving wedding parties, until the day when Noah went into the ark. And on that day the flood came and swept them all away. 28 And it will be like the days of Lot. They were eating and drinking, they were buying and selling, they were planting and building. 29 But on the day when Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky and they were all destroyed. 30 That’s what it will be like on the day when the son of man is revealed.
31 “On that day anyone up on the roof, with all their possessions in the house, shouldn’t go down to get them. Anyone out in the field shouldn’t go back to get anything. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 If you try to save your life you’ll lose it, but anyone who loses it will keep it.
34 “Let me tell you, in that night there will be two people sleeping side by side: one will be taken, and the other left behind. 35 There will be two women working side by side grinding corn: one will be taken, and the other left behind.”
37 “Where will this be, Master?” they asked him.
“Where the body is,” replied Jesus, “there the vultures will gather.”

Sin, Faith, Duty
17 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble(A) are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.(B) 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones(C) to stumble.(D) 3 So watch yourselves.
“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them;(E) and if they repent, forgive them.(F) 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”(G)
5 The apostles(H) said to the Lord,(I) “Increase our faith!”
6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed,(J) you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.(K)
7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me(L) while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”(M)
Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem,(N) Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.(O) 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[b](P) met him. They stood at a distance(Q) 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master,(R) have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”(S) And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God(T) in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.(U)
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”(V)
The Coming of the Kingdom of God(W)
20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come,(X) Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’(Y) because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”[c]
22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man,(Z) but you will not see it.(AA) 23 People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.(AB) 24 For the Son of Man in his day[d] will be like the lightning,(AC) which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things(AD) and be rejected(AE) by this generation.(AF)
26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah,(AG) so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 “It was the same in the days of Lot.(AH) People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.(AI) 31 On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.(AJ) 32 Remember Lot’s wife!(AK) 33 Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.(AL) 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.”(AM) [36] [e]
37 “Where, Lord?” they asked.
He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”(AN)
