Jésus devant Pilate et Hérode(A)
23 Toute l’assemblée se leva et l’emmena devant Pilate. 2 Là, ils se mirent à l’accuser : Nous avons trouvé cet homme en train de jeter le trouble parmi notre peuple : il interdit de payer l’impôt à l’empereur et il déclare qu’il est le Messie, le roi !
3 Alors Pilate l’interrogea : Es-tu le roi des Juifs ? lui demanda-t-il.
– Tu le dis toi-même, lui répondit Jésus.
4 Pilate dit alors aux chefs des prêtres et aux gens rassemblés : Je ne trouve chez cet homme aucune raison de le condamner.
5 Mais ils insistaient de plus en plus, disant : Il soulève le peuple avec ses idées ! Il a endoctriné toute la Judée ! Il a commencé en Galilée et il est venu jusqu’ici.
6 Quand Pilate entendit parler de la Galilée, il demanda si cet homme était galiléen. 7 Apprenant qu’il relevait bien de la juridiction d’Hérode, il l’envoya à ce dernier qui, justement, se trouvait lui aussi à Jérusalem durant ces jours-là.
8 Hérode fut ravi de voir Jésus car, depuis longtemps, il désirait faire sa connaissance, parce qu’il avait entendu parler de lui, et il espérait lui voir faire quelque signe miraculeux. 9 Il lui posa de nombreuses questions, mais Jésus ne lui répondit pas un mot.
10 Pendant ce temps, les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la Loi se tenaient là debout, lançant, avec passion, de graves accusations contre lui. 11 Alors Hérode le traita avec mépris, ses soldats en firent autant, et ils se moquèrent de lui, en le revêtant d’un manteau magnifique. Hérode le fit reconduire ainsi chez Pilate. 12 Hérode et Pilate, qui jusqu’alors avaient été ennemis, devinrent amis ce jour-là.
Jésus condamné à mort(B)
13 Pilate convoqua les chefs des prêtres, les dirigeants et le peuple. Il leur dit : 14 Vous m’avez amené cet homme en l’accusant d’égarer le peuple. Or, je l’ai interrogé moi-même devant vous, et je ne l’ai trouvé coupable d’aucun des crimes dont vous l’accusez. 15 Hérode non plus, d’ailleurs, puisqu’il nous l’a renvoyé. Cet homme n’a rien fait qui mérite la mort. 16 Je vais donc lui faire donner le fouet et le relâcher.
[17 A chaque fête, Pilate devait leur accorder la libération d’un prisonnier[a].]
18 Mais la foule entière se mit à crier : A mort ! Relâche Barabbas !
19 Ce Barabbas avait été mis en prison pour une émeute qui avait eu lieu dans la ville et pour un meurtre.
20 Mais Pilate, qui désirait relâcher Jésus, adressa de nouveau la parole à la foule, 21 qui se mit à crier : Crucifie-le ! Crucifie-le !
22 – Mais enfin, leur demanda-t-il pour la troisième fois, qu’a-t-il fait de mal ? Je n’ai trouvé en lui aucune raison de le condamner à mort. Je vais donc lui faire donner le fouet puis le remettre en liberté.
23 Mais ils devinrent de plus en plus pressants et exigèrent à grands cris sa crucifixion. Finalement, leurs cris l’emportèrent.
24 Pilate décida alors de satisfaire à leur demande. 25 Il relâcha donc celui qu’ils réclamaient, celui qui avait été emprisonné pour une émeute et pour un meurtre, et leur livra Jésus pour qu’ils fassent de lui ce qu’ils voulaient.
La mort de Jésus(C)
26 Pendant qu’ils l’emmenaient, ils se saisirent d’un certain Simon de Cyrène[b], qui revenait des champs, et l’obligèrent à porter la croix derrière Jésus. 27 Une foule de gens du peuple le suivait. Il y avait aussi beaucoup de femmes en larmes, qui se lamentaient à cause de lui. 28 Se tournant vers elles, il leur dit : Femmes de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas à cause de moi ! Pleurez plutôt à cause de vous-mêmes et de vos enfants 29 car, sachez-le, des jours viennent où l’on dira : « Heureuses les femmes qui ne peuvent pas avoir d’enfant et celles qui n’en ont jamais eu et qui n’ont jamais allaité. » 30 Alors on se mettra à dire aux montagnes : « Tombez sur nous ! » et aux collines : « Recouvrez-nous[c]! » 31 Car si l’on traite ainsi le bois vert, qu’adviendra-t-il du bois mort ?
32 Avec Jésus, on emmena aussi deux autres hommes, des bandits qui devaient être exécutés en même temps que lui.
33 Lorsqu’ils furent arrivés au lieu appelé « le Crâne », on cloua Jésus sur la croix, ainsi que les deux bandits, l’un à sa droite, l’autre à sa gauche.
34 Jésus pria : Père, pardonne-leur, car ils ne savent pas ce qu’ils font[d].
Les soldats se partagèrent ses vêtements en les tirant au sort. 35 La foule se tenait tout autour et regardait. Quant aux chefs du peuple, ils ricanaient en disant : Lui qui a sauvé les autres, qu’il se sauve donc lui-même, s’il est le Messie, l’Elu de Dieu !
36 Les soldats aussi se moquaient de lui. Ils s’approchaient et lui présentaient du vinaigre 37 en lui disant : Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même !
38 Au-dessus de sa tête, il y avait un écriteau portant ces mots : « Celui-ci est le roi des Juifs ».
39 L’un des deux criminels attaché à une croix l’insultait en disant : N’es-tu pas le Messie ? Alors sauve-toi toi-même, et nous avec !
40 Mais l’autre lui fit des reproches en disant : Tu n’as donc aucune crainte de Dieu, toi, et pourtant tu subis la même peine ? 41 Pour nous, ce n’est que justice : nous payons pour ce que nous avons fait ; mais celui-là n’a rien fait de mal.
42 Puis il ajouta : Jésus, souviens-toi de moi quand tu viendras régner.
43 Et Jésus lui répondit : Vraiment, je te l’assure : aujourd’hui même, tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.
44 Il était environ midi, quand le pays tout entier fut plongé dans l’obscurité, et cela dura jusqu’à trois heures de l’après-midi. 45 Le soleil resta entièrement caché[e]. Le grand rideau du Temple se déchira par le milieu. 46 Alors Jésus poussa un grand cri : Père, je remets mon esprit entre tes mains[f].
Après avoir dit ces mots il mourut.
47 En voyant ce qui s’était passé, l’officier romain rendit gloire à Dieu en disant : Aucun doute, cet homme était juste.
48 Après avoir vu ce qui était arrivé, tout le peuple, venu en foule pour assister à ces exécutions, s’en retourna en se frappant la poitrine. 49 Tous les amis de Jésus, ainsi que les femmes qui l’avaient suivi depuis la Galilée, se tenaient à distance pour voir ce qui se passait.
Jésus mis au tombeau(D)
50 Il y avait un homme, appelé Joseph, un membre du Grand-Conseil des Juifs. C’était un homme bon et droit 51 qui n’avait pas approuvé la décision ni les actes des autres membres du Grand-Conseil. Il venait d’Arimathée[g], en Judée, et attendait le royaume de Dieu. 52 Il alla demander à Pilate le corps de Jésus. 53 Après l’avoir descendu de la croix, il l’enroula dans un drap de lin et le déposa dans un tombeau taillé en plein rocher, où personne n’avait encore été enseveli. 54 C’était le soir de la préparation, avant le début du sabbat. 55 Les femmes qui avaient accompagné Jésus depuis la Galilée suivirent Joseph, elles regardèrent le tombeau et observèrent comment le corps de Jésus y avait été déposé. 56 Ensuite, elles retournèrent chez elles et préparèrent des huiles aromatiques et des parfums[h]. Puis elles observèrent le repos du sabbat, comme la Loi le prescrit.

23 At nagsitindig ang buong kapulungan (A)nila, at dinala siya sa harap ni Pilato.
2 At nangagpasimula silang isumbong siya, na sinasabi, Nasumpungan namin ang taong ito na pinasasama ang aming bansa, at (B)ipinagbabawal na bumuwis kay Cesar, at sinasabi (C)na siya rin nga ang Cristo, ang hari.
3 At tinanong siya ni Pilato, na nagsasabi, Ikaw baga ang Hari ng mga Judio? At sumagot siya at sinabi, Ikaw ang nagsasabi.

7 At nang maunawa na siya'y (E)nasasakop ni Herodes, ay ipinadala niya siya kay Herodes, na nang mga araw na yaon ay nasa Jerusalem din naman.
8 Nang makita nga ni Herodes si Jesus, ay nagalak siyang lubha: sapagka't malaon nang hinahangad niya na makita siya, sapagka't siya'y nakabalita tungkol sa kaniya; at siya'y naghihintay na makakita ng ilang himalang gawa niya.
9 At tinanong niya siya ng maraming salita; datapuwa't siya'y hindi sumagot ng anoman.
10 At ang mga pangulong saserdote at mga eskriba ay nagsitindig, na isinusumbong siyang mainam.
11 At si Herodes na kasama ang kaniyang mga kawal ay inalimura siya, at siya'y nilibak, (F)at sinuutan siya ng maringal na damit, at ipinabalik siya kay Pilato.
12 At nang araw ding yaon ay naging magkaibigan si Herodes at si Pilato: sapagka't dating sila'y nagkakagalit.
13 At tinipon ni Pilato ang mga pangulong saserdote, at ang mga pinuno at ang bayan,
14 At sinabi sa kanila, Dinala ninyo sa akin ang taong ito na gaya ng isang nagpapasama sa bayan: at narito, nang aking siyasatin siya sa harapan ninyo, ay wala akong nasumpungang anomang sala sa taong ito, tungkol sa mga bagay na isinusumbong ninyo laban sa kaniya;
15 Wala, kahit si Herodes man; sapagka't siya'y ipinabalik niyang muli sa atin; at narito, walang anomang karapatdapat sa kamatayan na ginawa niya.

18 Datapuwa't silang lahat ay nagsisigawang paminsan, na nangagsabi, Alisin mo ang taong ito, at pawalan mo sa amin si Barrabas:
19 Isa na ibinilanggo dahil sa isang paghihimagsik na ginawa sa bayan, at sa (H)pagpatay.
20 At si Pilato'y nagsalitang muli sa kanila, sa pagnanais na pawalan si Jesus;
21 Datapuwa't sila'y nagsigawan, na sinasabi, Ipako sa krus, ipako siya sa krus.
22 At kaniyang sinabi sa kanila, (I)na bilang ikatlo, Bakit, anong masama ang ginawa ng taong ito? Wala akong nasumpungang anomang kadahilanang ipatay sa kaniya: parurusahan ko nga siya, at siya'y pawawalan.
23 Datapuwa't pinipilit nilang hingin sa malalakas na tinig, na siya'y ipako sa krus. At nanaig ang kanilang mga tinig.
24 At hinatulan ni Pilato na gawin ang kanilang hinihingi,
25 At pinawalan niya yaong ibinilanggo dahil sa paghihimagsik at sa pagpatay, na siyang kanilang hiningi; datapuwa't ibinigay si Jesus sa kalooban nila.
26 At nang siya'y kanilang dalhin (J)ay kanilang pinigil ang isang Simong taga Cirene, na nanggaling sa bukid, at ipinasan sa kaniya ang krus, upang dalhin sa likuran ni Jesus.
27 At siya'y sinusundan ng isang makapal na karamihan sa bayan, at ng mga babaing nagiiyakan at nananambitan dahil sa kaniya.
28 Datapuwa't paglingon sa kanila ni Jesus ay sinabi, Mga anak na babae ng Jerusalem, huwag ninyo akong tangisan, kundi tangisan ninyo ang inyong sarili, at ang inyong mga anak.
29 Sapagka't (K)narito, darating ang mga araw, na kanilang sasabihin, Mapapalad ang mga baog, at ang mga tiyang kailan ma'y hindi nangagdalang-tao, at ang mga dibdib na kailan man ay hindi nangagpapasuso.
30 Kung magkagayon (L)ay magpapasimulang sabihin nila sa mga bundok, mangahulog kayo sa ibabaw namin; at sa mga burol, Takpan ninyo kami.
31 Sapagka't kung ginagawa ang mga bagay na ito sa (M)punong kahoy na sariwa, (N)ano kaya ang gagawin sa tuyo?
32 At dinala rin naman na (O)kasama niya, ang dalawang tampalasan, upang patayin.
33 At nang dumating sa dakong tinatawag na Bungo, ay kanilang ipinako roon siya sa krus, at ang mga tampalasan, isa sa kanan at isa sa kaliwa.
34 At sinabi ni Jesus, (P)Ama, (Q)patawarin mo sila; sapagka't (R)hindi nila nalalaman ang kanilang ginagawa. At (S)sa pagbabahabahagi nila ng kaniyang mga suot ay kanilang pinagsapalaranan.
35 At nakatayong nanonood (T)ang bayan. At tinutuya naman siya (U)ng mga pinuno, na sinasabi, Nagligtas siya sa mga iba; iligtas niya ang kaniyang sarili, kung ito ang Cristo ng Dios, ang hinirang niya.
36 At nililibak rin naman siya ng mga kawal, na nagsisilapit sa kaniya, na dinudulutan siya ng suka,
37 At sinabi, Kung ikaw ang Hari ng mga Judio, iligtas mo ang iyong sarili.
38 At (V)mayroon naman sa itaas niya na isang pamagat, ITO'Y ANG HARI NG MGA JUDIO.
39 At siya'y inalipusta ng (W)isa sa mga tampalasang nabibitin, na sinasabi, Hindi baga ikaw ang Cristo? iligtas mo ang iyong sarili at kami.
40 Datapuwa't sumagot ang isa, at pagsaway sa kaniya'y sinabi, Hindi ka pa baga natatakot sa Dios, yamang ikaw ay nasa gayon ding kaparusahan?
41 At tayo sa katotohanan ay ayon sa katuwiran; sapagka't tinanggap natin ang nararapat na kabayaran sa ating mga gawa; datapuwa't ang taong ito'y hindi gumagawa ng anomang masama.
42 At sinabi niya, Jesus, alalahanin mo ako, pagdating mo sa iyong kaharian.
43 At sinabi niya sa kaniya, Katotohanang sinasabi ko sa iyo, Ngayon ay kakasamahin kita sa (X)Paraiso.
44 At nang may oras na ikaanim na, ay nagdilim sa ibabaw ng buong lupa, hanggang sa oras na ikasiyam,
45 (Y)At nagdilim ang araw: at nahapak sa gitna (Z)ang tabing ng templo.

Jesus Handed Over to Pontius Pilate(A)
23 Then (B)the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to (C)Pilate. 2 And they began to (D)accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow (E)perverting [a]the nation, and (F)forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying (G)that He Himself is Christ, a King.”
3 (H)Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”
4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, (I)“I find no fault in this Man.”
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from (J)Galilee to this place.”
Jesus Faces Herod
6 When Pilate heard [b]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. 7 And as soon as he knew that He belonged to (K)Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, (L)he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because (M)he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. 9 Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him (N)nothing. 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. 11 (O)Then Herod, with his [c]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. 12 That very day (P)Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.
Taking the Place of Barabbas(Q)
13 (R)Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14 said to them, (S)“You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, (T)having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; 15 no, neither did Herod, for [d]I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. 16 (U)I will therefore chastise Him and release Him” 17 (V)(for[e] it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).
18 And (W)they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19 who had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city, and for murder.
20 Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them. 21 But they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
22 Then he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.”
23 But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men [f]and of the chief priests prevailed. 24 So (X)Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested. 25 (Y)And he released [g]to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
The King on a Cross(Z)
26 (AA)Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 (AB)For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’ 30 Then they will begin (AC)‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’ 31 (AD)For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?”
32 (AE)There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And (AF)when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. 34 [h]Then Jesus said, “Father, (AG)forgive them, for (AH)they do not know what they do.”
And (AI)they divided His garments and cast lots. 35 And (AJ)the people stood looking on. But even the (AK)rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”
36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him (AL)sour wine, 37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”
38 (AM)And an inscription also was [i]written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:
THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 (AN)Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, [j]“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”
40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done (AO)nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said [k]to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in (AP)Paradise.”
Jesus Dies on the Cross(AQ)
44 (AR)Now it [l]was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was [m]darkened, and (AS)the veil of the temple was torn in [n]two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, (AT)‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” (AU)Having said this, He breathed His last.
47 (AV)So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”
48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. 49 (AW)But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb(AX)
50 (AY)Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. 51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, (AZ)who[o] himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 (BA)Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. 54 That day was (BB)the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.
55 And the women (BC)who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and (BD)they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned and (BE)prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath (BF)according to the commandment.
