Giu-đa trở thành kẻ thù của Chúa Giê-xu(A)
22 Gần đến ngày lễ Bánh Không Men cũng còn gọi là lễ Vượt Qua. 2 Các giới trưởng tế và các giáo sư luật tìm cách giết Chúa Giê-xu nhưng chưa được vì họ sợ dân chúng phản ứng.
3 Quỉ Sa-tăng nhập vào Giu-đa Ít-ca-ri-ốt, một trong mười hai sứ đồ của Chúa Giê-xu. 4 Giu-đa đi gặp các giới trưởng tế cùng mấy tên lính canh gác đền thờ để bàn cách trao Ngài vào tay họ. 5 Họ rất mừng và đồng ý thưởng tiền cho hắn. 6 Hắn thỏa thuận và rình cơ hội để trao Chúa Giê-xu vào tay họ khi Ngài ở cách xa quần chúng.
Chúa Giê-xu dự lễ Vượt Qua(B)
7 Ngày đầu tiên của lễ Ăn Bánh Không Men là lúc chiên con của lễ Vượt Qua phải bị giết. 8 Chúa Giê-xu sai Phia-rơ và Giăng đi và dặn, “Các con hãy đi chuẩn bị bữa ăn lễ Vượt Qua cho chúng ta.”
9 Họ hỏi, “Thầy muốn chúng con dọn bữa ăn ấy ở đâu?”
Chúa Giê-xu bảo, 10 “Khi các con vào thành sẽ có một người mang bầu nước ra đón các con. Hãy đi theo người ấy, hễ người ấy vào nhà nào 11 thì các con hãy nói với chủ nhà, ‘Thầy hỏi: Cái phòng khách mà ta sẽ ăn lễ Vượt Qua với các môn đệ ta ở đâu?’ 12 Người sẽ chỉ cho các con một phòng rộng trên gác, có bàn ghế sẵn sàng. Các con sẽ dọn lễ Vượt Qua tại đó.”
13 Phia-rơ và Giăng ra đi, quả gặp mọi chuyện như Chúa Giê-xu đã bảo. Họ liền dọn bữa ăn lễ Vượt Qua.
Bữa Ăn của Chúa(C)
14 Đến giờ, Chúa Giê-xu và các sứ đồ đang ngồi ở bàn. 15 Ngài bảo họ, “Ta rất muốn ăn lễ Vượt Qua nầy với các con trước khi ta phải chịu khổ hình. 16 Ta sẽ không còn ăn lễ Vượt Qua nào nữa cho đến khi Lễ ấy được mang đầy đủ ý nghĩa trong Nước Trời.”
17 Rồi Ngài cầm ly, cảm tạ và nói, “Các con hãy lấy ly nầy và chia nhau uống. 18 Ta sẽ không uống nước nho nầy nữa cho tới khi Nước Trời hiện đến.”
19 Sau đó Ngài lấy bánh mì, cảm tạ và bẻ ra trao cho các sứ đồ và nói rằng, “Đây là thân thể ta hi sinh cho các con. Hãy làm điều nầy để nhớ đến ta.” 20 Cũng vậy, sau khi ăn, Ngài cầm ly và bảo, “Ly nầy là giao ước mới mà Thượng Đế kết lập với dân của Ngài. Giao ước mới nầy bắt đầu bằng huyết của ta đổ ra vì các con.” [a]
Ai sẽ phản Chúa Giê-xu?
21 “Nhưng một người trong các con sẽ phản bội ta, tay người ấy đang đặt chung với tay ta trên bàn. 22 Điều mà Thượng Đế đã định cho Con Người sẽ xảy ra, nhưng khốn cho kẻ nào phản Con Người.”
23 Các sứ đồ hỏi nhau xem ai trong vòng họ lại làm chuyện ấy.
Hãy làm đầy tớ
24 Các môn đệ bắt đầu tranh luận với nhau xem ai trong họ là người quan trọng nhất. 25 Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu dạy họ, “Các vua chúa ngoại quốc cai trị dân chúng, và những người cầm quyền thích được gọi là ‘bạn dân.’ 26 Tuy nhiên, các con không nên như thế. Trái lại, người nào lớn nhất trong các con phải là người thấp kém nhất và người lãnh đạo phải như kẻ tôi tớ vậy. 27 Giữa một người ngồi ở bàn và một người hầu hạ, người nào quan trọng hơn? Các con cho là người ngồi ở bàn quan trọng hơn. Nhưng ta giống như kẻ hầu hạ ở giữa các con vậy.
28 Các con đã ở cùng ta suốt những cuộc đấu tranh gay go của ta. 29 Cha đã ban cho ta một vương quốc thì ta cũng cho các con vương quốc ấy 30 để các con được ăn uống chung bàn với ta trong nước của ta. Các con sẽ ngồi trên ngôi, xét xử mười hai chi tộc Ít-ra-en.”
Đừng mất đức tin(D)
31 “Xi-môn [b] ơi, Xi-môn ơi, Sa-tăng đã xin thử nghiệm tất cả các con như nhà nông sàng sảy lúa vậy. 32 Ta đã cầu nguyện để con đừng mất đức tin! Khi con trở lại với ta thì hãy giục giã anh em con.”
33 Nhưng Phia-rơ thưa với Chúa Giê-xu, “Thưa Chúa, con sẵn sàng đồng tù, đồng chết với Chúa!”
34 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Phia-rơ à, hôm nay trước khi gà gáy con sẽ chối ta ba lần.”
Hãy sẵn sàng đương đầu với khó khăn
35 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu hỏi các sứ đồ, “Khi ta sai các con ra đi mà không mang ví, túi, hoặc giày theo các con có thiếu gì không?”
Họ thưa, “Dạ không thiếu gì hết.”
36 Ngài bảo tiếp, “Bây giờ nếu các con có ví hoặc túi thì hãy mang theo. Nếu các con không có gươm hãy bán áo ngoài mà mua một cái. 37 Thánh Kinh viết,
‘Ngài bị đối xử như một tên tội phạm.’ (E)
Ta bảo các con biết là câu Thánh Kinh ấy phải được mang đầy đủ ý nghĩa. Câu ấy nói về ta và sự việc hiện đang xảy ra.”
38 Các môn đệ thưa, “Thưa Chúa, đây có hai cây gươm.”
Ngài bảo, “Vậy đủ rồi.” [c]
Chúa Giê-xu cầu nguyện một mình(F)
39 Chúa Giê-xu ra khỏi thành và đi đến núi Ô-liu như Ngài vẫn thường làm. Các môn đệ cùng đi với Ngài. 40 Khi đến nơi, Ngài bảo họ, “Các con hãy cầu nguyện cho có sức chống chọi sự cám dỗ.”
41 Rồi Ngài đi cách họ khoảng chừng liệng một viên đá, quì xuống và cầu nguyện, 42 “Thưa Cha, nếu Cha muốn, xin lấy ly đau khổ [d] nầy đi. Nhưng hãy làm theo ý Cha chứ không phải theo ý con.” 43 Có một thiên sứ từ trời hiện đến thêm sức cho Ngài. 44 Trong cơn đau khổ Chúa Giê-xu càng cầu nguyện thiết tha. Mồ hôi Ngài rơi xuống đất như những giọt máu. [e] 45 Khi cầu nguyện xong, Chúa Giê-xu trở lại với các môn đệ, thì thấy họ đang ngủ vì quá buồn bã. 46 Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, “Sao các con ngủ? Hãy dậy cầu nguyện cho có sức chống chọi với sự cám dỗ.”
Chúa Giê-xu bị bắt(G)
47 Trong khi Chúa Giê-xu còn đang nói thì một đám đông ập đến do Giu-đa, một trong mười hai sứ đồ dẫn đầu. Hắn tiến đến gần Chúa Giê-xu để hôn Ngài.
48 Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu hỏi hắn, “Giu-đa, có phải con dùng cái hôn để trao Con Người cho kẻ thù của Ngài không?” 49 Những người đứng quanh thấy vậy liền hỏi Ngài, “Thưa Chúa, chúng con nên lấy gươm chém bọn nầy không?” 50 Một trong những người ở đó rút gươm ra chém đứt vành tai phải của người đầy tớ thầy tế lễ tối cao.
51 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Thôi! Đừng chém nữa.” Rồi Ngài rờ vành tai của người đầy tớ và chữa lành cho. 52 Những người đến bắt Chúa Giê-xu là những trưởng tế, các vệ binh canh gác đền thờ, và các bô lão. Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, “Các ông mang theo gươm giáo và gậy gộc đến bắt ta làm như thể ta là tên tội phạm. 53 Hằng ngày ta có mặt trong đền thờ mà các ông không bắt. Nhưng nay là giờ của các ông—giờ mà tăm tối ngự trị.”
Phia-rơ chối Chúa Giê-xu(H)
54 Chúng bắt Chúa Giê-xu dẫn đi và giải Ngài đến nhà riêng của thầy tế lễ tối cao. Phia-rơ đi theo sau xa xa. 55 Sau khi bọn lính đốt một đống lửa giữa sân và ngồi sưởi gần nhau thì Phia-rơ cũng đến ngồi chung với họ. 56 Một đứa tớ gái thấy Phia-rơ ngồi đó qua ánh lửa chập chờn, cô nhìn Phia-rơ thật kỹ rồi bảo, “Ông nầy cũng ở với người ấy.”
57 Nhưng Phia-rơ chối phăng; ông bảo, “Chị ơi, tôi không hề biết người ấy.” 58 Lát sau, một người khác thấy Phia-rơ liền nói, “Ông cũng là người thuộc bọn đó.”
Nhưng Phia-rơ đáp, “Anh ơi, tôi không thuộc đám đó đâu!”
59 Độ một giờ sau, một người nữa nhất quyết, “Chắc chắn người nầy từng ở với ông ấy vì ông ta cũng gốc Ga-li-lê.”
60 Nhưng Phia-rơ trả lời, “Anh à, tôi không hiểu anh nói gì cả!”
Ngay lúc Phia-rơ còn đang nói thì gà gáy. 61 Chúa quay lại nhìn thẳng vào Phia-rơ. Ông ta chợt nhớ lại lời Ngài nói: “Hôm nay trước khi gà gáy, con sẽ chối ba lần, bảo là không hề biết ta.” 62 Phia-rơ liền bước ra ngoài khóc lóc thảm thiết.
Dân chúng chế giễu Chúa Giê-xu(I)
63 Những tên canh giữ Chúa Giê-xu chế giễu và đánh đập Ngài. 64 Chúng bịt mắt Ngài và bảo, “Hãy trổ tài nói tiên tri của ông đi, xem thử người nào đánh ông.” 65 Chúng nhục mạ Chúa Giê-xu nhiều điều.
Chúa Giê-xu trước mặt các lãnh tụ(J)
66 Đến sáng, hội đồng bô lão, gồm các trưởng tế và các giáo sư luật họp nhau lại và giải Ngài đến tòa án tối cao. 67 Họ nói, “Nếu ông là Đấng Cứu Thế hãy nói cho chúng tôi biết.”
Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, “Nếu ta nói các ông cũng chẳng tin. 68 Và nếu ta hỏi các ông cũng chẳng trả lời. 69 Nhưng từ nay về sau, Con Người sẽ ngồi bên tay phải của Thượng Đế quyền năng.”
70 Họ hỏi, “Vậy ông là Con Thượng Đế à?” Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Đúng vậy.”
71 Họ đồng thanh, “Bây giờ chúng ta đâu cần nhân chứng làm gì nữa? Chính chúng ta đã nghe lời tuyên bố của ông ta rồi.”

Judas Betrays Jesus(A)
22 It was almost time for the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover Feast [C celebrating God’s rescue of Israel from Egypt; Ex. 12]. 2 The ·leading [T chief] priests and ·teachers of the law [scribes] were trying to find a way to ·kill [destroy; eliminate] Jesus, ·because [or but] they were afraid of the people [C because of Jesus’ popularity].
3 [L Then] Satan entered Judas [L who was called] Iscariot, one of ·Jesus’ twelve apostles [L the Twelve]. 4 Judas went to the ·leading [T chief] priests and the officers of the Temple guard and talked to them about a way to ·hand Jesus over [betray Jesus] to them. 5 They were ·pleased [delighted] and agreed to give Judas money. 6 He ·agreed [consented] and watched for ·the best [an opportune] time to ·hand Jesus over [betray Jesus] to them when he was away from the crowd.
Jesus Eats the Passover Meal(B)
7 The Day of Unleavened Bread came when the Passover lambs had to be sacrificed. 8 Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.”
9 They asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?” 10 Jesus said to them, “[Pay attention; L Look; T Behold] After you go into the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters, 11 and tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says: “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover meal with my ·followers [disciples]?”’ 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished room upstairs. Prepare the Passover meal there.”
13 So Peter and John left and found everything as Jesus had said. And they prepared the Passover meal.
The Lord’s Supper(C)
14 When the ·time [hour] came, Jesus and the apostles ·were sitting at the table [L reclined; C the posture at a formal meal; see 7:36]. 15 He said to them, “I wanted very much to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer. 16 [L For I tell you] I will not eat another Passover meal until it is ·given its true meaning [L fulfilled] in the kingdom of God.”
17 Then Jesus took a cup, gave thanks, and said, “Take this cup and share it among yourselves. 18 [L For I tell you] I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine [C wine] until God’s kingdom comes.”
19 Then Jesus took some bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to the apostles, saying, “This is my body,[a] which I am giving for you. Who Will Turn Against Jesus?(D)
21 “But [L Look; T Behold] one of you will ·turn against [betray] me, and ·his hand is with mine on [or he is sharing a place with me at] the table. 22 ·What God has planned for the Son of Man will happen [L For the Son of Man is going (to his death) as it has been determined/decreed (by God)], but ·how terrible it will be for [L woe to] that one who ·turns against [betrays] the Son of Man [C a title for the Messiah; Dan. 7:13–14].”
23 Then the apostles ·asked [began to ask] each other which one of them would do that.
Be Like a Servant(E)
24 ·The apostles also began to argue [L Then an argument/dispute occurred among them] about which one of them was the ·most important [greatest]. 25 But Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles ·rule [lord it] over them, and those who have authority over others like to be called ·‘friends of the people’ [‘Benefactors’]. 26 But you must not be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the leader should be like the servant. 27 [L For] Who is more important: the one ·sitting at the table [L reclining] or the one serving? Is it not the one ·sitting at the table [L reclining]? But I am like a servant among you.

Don’t Lose Your Faith!(F)

33 But Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and even to die with you!”
34 But Jesus said, “[L I tell you,] Peter, before the rooster crows this day, you will ·say three times that you don’t [L deny three times that you] know me.”
Be Ready for Trouble
35 Then Jesus said to the apostles, “When I sent you out without ·a purse [money bag], a ·bag [traveling bag], or sandals, did you ·need [lack] anything?”
They said, “·No [L Nothing].”
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a ·purse [money bag] or a ·bag [traveling bag], carry that with you. If you don’t have a sword, sell your ·coat [cloak] and buy one. 37 [L For] I tell you this scripture must ·have its full meaning [be fulfilled] ·with reference to me [L in me]: ‘He was ·treated like a criminal [counted/numbered among the wicked/lawless ones; Is. 53:12],’ [Yes; L For] What was written about me ·is happening now [is being fulfilled].”
38 His ·followers [disciples] said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.”
He said to them, “·That is enough [or That’s enough talk like that!].”
Jesus Prays Alone(G)
39 Jesus left the city and went to the Mount of Olives, as he often did, and his ·followers [disciples] ·went with [followed] him. 40 When he reached the place, he said to them, “Pray for strength ·against temptation [or not to fail the test].”
41 Then Jesus went about a stone’s throw away from them. He kneeled down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take away this ·cup of suffering [L cup; C suffering or punishment is metaphorically portrayed as something bitter to drink]. But do ·what you want [L your will], not ·what I want [L my will].” 43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him to strengthen him. 44 Being ·full of pain [in agony/anguish], Jesus prayed even harder. His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. 45 When he ·finished praying [L rose from prayer], he went to his ·followers [disciples] and found them asleep ·because of their sadness [exhausted from grief]. 46 Jesus said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray ·for strength against temptation [that you won’t give in to temptation; or that you won’t be tempted/tested].”
Jesus Is Arrested(H)
47 While Jesus was speaking, [L look; T behold] a crowd came up, and [L the man called] Judas, one of the twelve apostles, was leading them. He came close to Jesus so he could kiss him.
48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When those who were standing around him saw what was ·happening [about to happen], they said, “Lord, should we strike them with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51 Jesus said, “Stop! No more of this.” Then he touched the servant’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to those who had come to arrest him, the ·leading [T chief] priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, “You came out here with swords and clubs as though I were a ·criminal [revolutionary; rebel; L robber; C a term used by the Romans of insurrectionists]. 53 I was with you every day in the Temple, and you didn’t ·arrest [L extend your hands against] me there. But this is your ·time [hour]—the time when darkness ·rules [has power/authority].”
Peter Says He Doesn’t Know Jesus(I)
54 They ·arrested [seized] Jesus, and led him away, and brought him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed ·far behind them [at a distance]. 55 After ·the soldiers [L they] started a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat together, Peter sat with them. 56 A servant girl saw Peter sitting there in the firelight, and looking closely at him, she said, “This man was also with him.”
57 But Peter ·said this was not true [denied it]; he said, “Woman, I don’t know him.”
58 A short time later, another person saw Peter and said, “You are also one of them.”
But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”
59 About an hour later, another man insisted, “Certainly this man was with him, because he is ·from Galilee [a Galilean], too.”
60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!”
At once, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered what the Lord had said: “Before the rooster crows this day, you will ·say three times that you don’t know me [deny me three times].” 62 Then Peter went outside and ·cried painfully [wept bitterly].
The People Make Fun of Jesus
63 The men who were guarding Jesus began ·making fun of [mocking] him and beating him.
64 They blindfolded him and said, “·Prove that you are a prophet [L Prophesy!], and tell us who hit you.” 65 They said many ·cruel [insulting; blasphemous] things to Jesus.
Jesus Before the Leaders
66 When day came, the council of the elders of the people, both the ·leading [T chief] priests and the ·teachers of the law [scribes], came together and led Jesus to ·their highest court [the high council/Sanhedrin]. 67 They said, “If you are the ·Christ [Messiah], tell us.”
Jesus said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe me. 68 And if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will sit at the right hand of the powerful God [Ps. 110:1].”
70 They all said, “Then are you the Son of God?”
Jesus said to them, “You say that I am [C an indirect affirmation].”
71 They said, “Why do we need ·witnesses [testimony] now? [L For] We ·ourselves heard him say this [L heard it from his mouth].”

2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
