The Priest’s Part in the Offerings

7 ‘Now this is the law of the ^(A)guilt offering; it is most holy. ² In ^(B)the place where they slay the burnt offering they are to slay the guilt offering, and he shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ³ Then he shall offer from it all its fat: the ^(C)fat tail and the fat that covers the entrails, ⁴ and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the lobe on the liver he shall remove ^(D)with the kidneys. ⁵ The priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar as an offering by fire to the Lord; it is a guilt offering. ^6 (E)Every male among the priests may eat of it. It shall be eaten in a holy place; it is most holy. ⁷ The guilt offering is like the ^(F)sin offering, there is one law for them; the ^(G)priest who makes atonement with it ^[a]shall have it. ⁸ Also the priest who presents any man’s burnt offering, ^[b]that priest shall have for himself the skin of the burnt offering which he has presented. ⁹ Likewise, every grain offering that is baked in the oven and everything prepared in a ^[c]pan or on a ^(H)griddle ^[d]shall belong to the priest who presents it. ¹⁰ Every grain offering, mixed with oil or dry, shall ^[e]belong to all the sons of Aaron, ^[f]to all alike.

¹¹ ‘Now this is the law of the ^(I)sacrifice of peace offerings which shall be presented to the Lord. ¹² If he offers it by way of ^(J)thanksgiving, then along with the sacrifice of thanksgiving he shall offer ^(K)unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers ^[g]spread with oil, and cakes of well stirred fine flour mixed with oil. ¹³ With the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving, he shall present his offering with cakes of ^(L)leavened bread. ¹⁴ Of ^[h]this he shall present one of every offering as a ^[i]contribution to the Lord; ^(M)it shall ^[j]belong to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings.

¹⁵ ‘^(N)Now as for the flesh of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving peace offerings, it shall be eaten on the day of his offering; he shall not leave any of it over until morning. ¹⁶ But if the sacrifice of his offering is a ^(O)votive or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice, and on the ^[k]next day what is left of it may be eaten; ^17 (P)but what is left over from the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned with fire. ¹⁸ So if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings should ever be eaten on the third day, he who offers it will not be accepted, and it will not be reckoned to his benefit. It shall be an ^(Q)offensive thing, and the person who eats of it will bear his own iniquity.

¹⁹ ‘Also the flesh that touches anything unclean shall not be eaten; it shall be burned with fire. ^[l]As for other flesh, anyone who is clean may eat such flesh. ^20 (R)But the person who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings which belong to the Lord, ^[m]in his uncleanness, that person ^(S)shall be cut off from his people. ^21 (T)When anyone touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, or an unclean animal, or any unclean ^[n]detestable thing, and eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings which belong to the Lord, that person shall be cut off from his people.’”

²² Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²³ “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall not eat ^(U)any fat from an ox, a sheep or a goat. ²⁴ Also the fat of an animal which dies and the fat of an animal ^(V)torn by beasts may be put to any other use, but you must certainly not eat it. ²⁵ For whoever eats the fat of the animal from which ^[o]an offering by fire is offered to the Lord, even the person who eats shall be cut off from his people. ^26 (W)You are not to eat any blood, either of bird or animal, in any of your dwellings. ²⁷ Any person who eats any blood, even that person shall be cut off from his people.’”

²⁸ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁹ “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘He who offers ^(X)the sacrifice of his peace offerings to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offerings. ³⁰ His own hands are to bring offerings by fire to the Lord. He shall bring the fat with the breast, that the ^(Y)breast may be ^[p]presented as a wave offering before the Lord. ³¹ The priest shall offer up the fat in smoke on the altar, but ^(Z)the breast shall belong to Aaron and his sons. ³² You shall give ^(AA)the right thigh to the priest as a ^[q]contribution from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. ³³ The one among the sons of Aaron who offers the blood of the peace offerings and the fat, the right thigh shall be his as his portion. ³⁴ For I have taken ^(AB)the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the ^[r]contribution from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as their due forever from the sons of Israel.

³⁵ ‘This is ^[s]that which is consecrated to Aaron and ^[t]that ^(AC)which is consecrated to his sons from the offerings by fire to the Lord, in that day when he presented them to serve as priests to the Lord. ^36 [u]These the Lord had commanded to be given them from the sons of Israel in the day that He ^(AD)anointed them. It is their due forever throughout their generations.’”

³⁷ This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering and the sin offering and the guilt offering and ^(AE)the ordination offering and the sacrifice of peace offerings, ^38 (AF)which the Lord commanded Moses at Mount Sinai in the day that He commanded the sons of Israel to ^[v]present their offerings to the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai.

The Consecration of Aaron and His Sons

8 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² “^(AG)Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the ^(AH)garments and ^(AI)the anointing oil and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams and the basket of unleavened bread, ³ and assemble all the congregation at the doorway of the tent of meeting.” ⁴ So Moses did just as the Lord commanded him. When the congregation was assembled at the doorway of the tent of meeting, ⁵ Moses said to the congregation, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded to do.”

⁶ Then ^(AJ)Moses had Aaron and his sons come near and ^(AK)washed them with water. ⁷ He ^(AL)put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash, and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him; and he girded him with the artistic band of the ephod, ^[w]with which he tied it to him. ⁸ He then placed the ^[x]breastpiece on him, and in the ^[y]breastpiece he put ^[z](AM)the Urim and the Thummim. ⁹ He also placed the turban on his head, and on the turban, at its front, he placed ^(AN)the golden plate, the holy crown, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

¹⁰ Moses then took ^(AO)the anointing oil and anointed the ^[aa]tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. ¹¹ He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to ^(AP)consecrate them. ¹² Then he poured some of the ^(AQ)anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him, to consecrate him. ^13 (AR)Next Moses had Aaron’s sons come near and clothed them with tunics, and girded them with sashes and bound ^[ab]caps on them, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

¹⁴ Then he brought ^(AS)the bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering. ¹⁵ Next ^[ac]Moses slaughtered it and took the blood and with his finger ^(AT)put some of it around on the horns of the altar, and purified the altar. Then he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it, to make atonement for it. ¹⁶ He also ^(AU)took all the fat that was on the entrails and the ^[ad]lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat; and Moses offered it up in smoke on the altar. ^17 (AV)But the bull and its hide and its flesh and its refuse he burned in the fire outside the camp, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

¹⁸ Then he presented ^(AW)the ram of the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. ^19 [ae]Moses slaughtered it and sprinkled the blood around on the altar. ²⁰ When he had cut the ram into its pieces, Moses ^(AX)offered up the head and the pieces and the suet in smoke. ²¹ After he had washed the entrails and the legs with water, Moses ^(AY)offered up the whole ram in smoke on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a soothing aroma; it was an offering by fire to the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

²² Then he presented the second ram, ^(AZ)the ram of ^[af]ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. ^23 [ag]Moses slaughtered it and took some of its blood and ^(BA)put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. ²⁴ He also had Aaron’s sons come near; and Moses put some of the blood on the lobe of their right ear, and on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. Moses then ^(BB)sprinkled the rest of the blood around on the altar. ²⁵ He took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the ^[ah]lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and their fat and the right thigh. ^26 (BC)From the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord, he took one unleavened cake and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer, and placed them on the portions of fat and on the right thigh. ²⁷ He then ^(BD)put all these on the hands of Aaron and on the hands of his sons and presented them as a wave offering before the Lord. ²⁸ Then Moses ^(BE)took them from their hands and offered them up in smoke on the altar with the burnt offering. They were an ordination offering for ^(BF)a soothing aroma; it was an offering by fire to the Lord. ²⁹ Moses also took ^(BG)the breast and presented it for a wave offering before the Lord; it was ^(BH)Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

³⁰ So Moses ^(BI)took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron, on his garments, on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him; and he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him.

³¹ Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, “^(BJ)Boil the flesh at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and eat it there together with the bread which is in the basket of the ordination offering, just as I commanded, ^(BK)saying, ‘Aaron and his sons shall eat it.’ ^32 (BL)The remainder of the flesh and of the bread you shall burn in the fire. ^33 (BM)You shall not go outside the doorway of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the day that the period of your ordination is fulfilled; for he will ^[ai]ordain you through seven days. ³⁴ The Lord has commanded to do as has been done this day, to make atonement on your behalf. ³⁵ At the doorway of the tent of meeting, moreover, you shall remain day and night for seven days and ^(BN)keep the charge of the Lord, so that you will not die, for so I have been commanded.” ³⁶ Thus Aaron and his sons did all the things which the Lord had commanded through Moses.

Aaron Offers Sacrifices

9 Now it came about ^(BO)on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel; ² and he said to Aaron, “^(BP)Take for yourself a calf, a bull, for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without defect, and offer them before the Lord. ³ Then to the sons of Israel you shall speak, saying, ‘Take a male goat for a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both one year old, without defect, for a burnt offering, ⁴ and an ox and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the Lord, and a grain offering mixed with oil; for today ^(BQ)the Lord will appear to you.’” ⁵ So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of the tent of meeting, and the whole congregation came near and stood before the Lord. ⁶ Moses said, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded you to do, that ^(BR)the glory of the Lord may appear to you.” ⁷ Moses then said to Aaron, “Come near to the altar and ^[aj](BS)offer your sin offering and your burnt offering, that you may make atonement for yourself and for the people; then make the offering ^[ak]for the people, that you may make atonement for them, just as the Lord has commanded.”

^8 (BT)So Aaron came near to the altar and slaughtered the calf of the sin offering which was for himself. ^9 (BU)Aaron’s sons presented the blood to him; and he dipped his finger in the blood and ^(BV)put some on the horns of the altar, and poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. ¹⁰ The fat and the kidneys and the ^[al]lobe of the liver of the sin offering, he then offered up in smoke on the altar just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ^11 (BW)The flesh and the skin, however, he burned with fire outside the camp.

¹² Then he slaughtered the burnt offering; and Aaron’s sons handed the blood to him and he sprinkled it around on the altar. ¹³ They handed the burnt offering to him in ^[am]pieces, with the head, and he offered them up in smoke on the altar. ¹⁴ He also washed the entrails and the legs, and offered them up in smoke with the burnt offering on the altar.

¹⁵ Then he presented the people’s offering, and took the ^(BX)goat of the sin offering which was for the people, and slaughtered it and offered it for sin, like the first. ¹⁶ He also presented the burnt offering, and ^[an]offered it according to ^(BY)the ordinance. ¹⁷ Next he presented ^(BZ)the grain offering, and filled his ^[ao]hand with some of it and offered it up in smoke on the altar, ^(CA)besides the burnt offering of the morning.

¹⁸ Then ^(CB)he slaughtered the ox and the ram, the sacrifice of peace offerings which was for the people; and Aaron’s sons handed the blood to him and he sprinkled it around on the altar. ¹⁹ As for the portions of fat from the ox and from the ram, the fat tail, and the fat ^(CC)covering, and the kidneys and the ^[ap]lobe of the liver, ²⁰ they now placed the portions of fat on the breasts; and he offered ^[aq]them up in smoke on the altar. ²¹ But ^(CD)the breasts and the right thigh Aaron ^[ar]presented as a wave offering before the Lord, just as Moses had commanded.

²² Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and ^(CE)blessed them, and he stepped down after making the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. ²³ Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, ^(CF)the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. ^24 (CG)Then fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

The Gerasene Demoniac

5 ^(A)They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes. ² When He got out of ^(B)the boat, immediately a man from the tombs ^(C)with an unclean spirit met Him, ³ and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain; ⁴ because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him. ⁵ Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones. ⁶ Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; ⁷ and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, “^[a](D)What business do we have with each other, Jesus, ^(E)Son of ^(F)the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!” ⁸ For He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” ⁹ And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is ^(G)Legion; for we are many.” ¹⁰ And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country. ¹¹ Now there was a large herd of swine feeding ^[b]nearby on the mountain. ¹² The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.” ¹³ Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

¹⁴ Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened. ¹⁵ They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been ^(H)demon-possessed sitting down, ^(I)clothed and ^(J)in his right mind, the very man who had had the “^(K)legion”; and they became frightened. ¹⁶ Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the ^(L)demon-possessed man, and all about the swine. ¹⁷ And they began to ^(M)implore Him to leave their region. ^18 (N)As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been ^(O)demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might ^[c]accompany Him. ¹⁹ And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “^(P)Go home to your people and report to them ^[d]what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” ²⁰ And he went away and began to ^(Q)proclaim in ^(R)Decapolis ^[e]what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

Miracles and Healing

^21 (S)When Jesus had crossed over again in ^(T)the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He ^[f]stayed ^(U)by the seashore. ^22 (V)One of ^(W)the synagogue ^[g]officials named Jairus *came up, and on seeing Him, *fell at His feet ²³ and *implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and ^(X)lay Your hands on her, so that she will ^[h]get well and live.” ²⁴ And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.

²⁵ A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, ²⁶ and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— ²⁷ after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His ^[i]cloak. ²⁸ For she ^[j]thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will ^[k]get well.” ²⁹ Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her ^(Y)affliction. ³⁰ Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that ^(Z)the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” ³¹ And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” ³² And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. ³³ But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. ³⁴ And He said to her, “Daughter, ^(AA)your faith has ^[l]made you well; ^(AB)go in peace and be healed of your ^(AC)affliction.”

³⁵ While He was still speaking, they *came from the house of the ^(AD)synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?” ³⁶ But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the ^(AE)synagogue official, “^(AF)Do not be afraid any longer, only ^[m]believe.” ³⁷ And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except ^(AG)Peter and ^[n]James and John the brother of ^[o]James. ³⁸ They *came to the house of the ^(AH)synagogue official; and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. ³⁹ And entering in, He *said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.” ⁴⁰ They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He *took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and *entered the room where the child was. ⁴¹ Taking the child by the hand, He *said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, ^(AI)I say to you, get up!”). ⁴² Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded. ⁴³ And He ^(AJ)gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat.
