8 [a]Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 9 “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is (A)the law for the burnt offering: the burnt offering itself shall remain on the hearth on the altar all night until the morning, and (B)the fire on the altar is to be kept burning on it. 10 The priest is to put on (C)his linen robe, and he shall put on linen undergarments next to his [b]body; and he shall take up the fatty ashes to which the fire [c]reduces the burnt offering on the altar and place them beside the altar. 11 Then he shall take off his garments and put on other garments, and carry the fatty ashes outside the camp to a clean place. 12 The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out, but the priest shall burn wood on it every morning; and he shall lay out the burnt offering on it, and offer up in smoke the fat portions of the peace offerings (D)on it. 13 Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out.

Sacrificial Instructions for the Priests: The Burnt Offering
8 (6:1)[a] Then the Lord spoke to Moses:[b] 9 “Command Aaron and his sons, ‘This is the law of the burnt offering. The burnt offering is to remain on the hearth[c] on the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar must be kept burning on it.[d] 10 Then the priest must put on his linen robe and must put linen leggings[e] over his bare flesh, and he must take up the fatty ashes of the burnt offering that the fire consumed on the altar,[f] and he must place them[g] beside the altar. 11 Then he must take off his clothes and put on other clothes, and he must bring the fatty ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean[h] place, 12 but the fire which is on the altar must be kept burning on it.[i] It must not be extinguished. So the priest must kindle wood on it morning by morning, and he must arrange the burnt offering on it and offer the fat of the peace offering up in smoke on it. 13 A continual fire must be kept burning on the altar. It must not be extinguished.

This initial verse makes the special priestly regulations for the people’s burnt and grain offerings into a single unit (i.e., Lev 6:8-18 [6:1-11 HT]; cf. Lev 1-2 above). Note also the separate introductions for various priestly regulations in Lev 6:19 [12 HT], 24 [17 HT], and for the common people in Lev 7:22, 28 below.
