Of Poor Countrymen

35 (A)Now in case a countryman of yours becomes poor and his [a]means among you falter, then you are to sustain him, like a stranger or a resident, so that he may live with you. 36 (B)Do not take [b]any kind of interest from him, but [c]fear your God, so that your countryman may live with you. 37 You shall not give him your silver at interest, nor your food [d]for profit. 38 (C)I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and (D)to be your God.

35 “If your relative becomes so poor that he is indebted to you,[a] then you are to support him. You are to let him live with you just like the resident alien and the traveler. 36 You are not to take interest or profit from him. Instead, you are to fear your God and let your relative live with you. 37 You are not to loan him money with interest or sell him your food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.
