^43 (A)You shall not rule over him ^(B)ruthlessly but ^(C)shall fear your God.

4 Masters, treat your bondservants^[a] justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

⁵³ He shall treat him as a worker hired year by year. ^(A)He shall not rule ruthlessly over him in your sight.

⁴⁶ You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel ^(A)you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.

^17 (A)You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.

¹³ So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel ^(A)work as slaves ¹⁴ and ^(B)made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.

⁹ Masters, do the same to them, ^(A)and stop your threatening, knowing that ^(B)he who is both their Master^[a] and yours is in heaven, and that ^(C)there is no partiality with him.

^4 (A)The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, ^(B)the injured you have not bound up, ^(C)the strayed you have not brought back, ^(D)the lost you have not sought, and with force and ^(E)harshness you have ruled them.

⁵ “Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be ^(A)a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those ^(B)who oppress the hired worker in his wages, ^(C)the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.
