20 1,2 De Here gaf Mozes de volgende regels voor het volk Israël: ‘Ieder—geboren Israëliet en buitenlander die bij u woont—die zijn kind als een brandoffer aan Moloch geeft, moet zeker ter dood worden gebracht, hij moet worden gestenigd. 3 Ikzelf zal mijn gelaat tegen die man keren en hem verstoten van al zijn naasten, omdat hij zijn kind aan Moloch heeft gegeven en zo mijn heiligdom heeft ontheiligd en mijn heilige naam heeft beledigd. 4 Als het volk van het land net doet alsof het niet ziet dat hij zijn kind aan Moloch geeft en hem niet ter dood brengt, 5 zal Ikzelf mijn gelaat keren tegen hem en tegen allen die hem volgen in het dienen van Moloch. Ik zal hen uitroeien. 6 Ook zal Ik mijn gezicht keren tegen ieder die mediums en waarzeggers raadpleegt in plaats van Mij en Ik zal hem uit zijn volk verstoten. 7 Dus heilig uzelf en wees heilig, want Ik ben de Here, uw God. 8 U moet al mijn wetten gehoorzamen, want Ik ben de Here, die u heiligt.
9 Ieder die zijn vader of moeder vervloekt, moet zeker ter dood worden gebracht, hij heeft zijn eigen vlees en bloed vervloekt. 10 Als een man overspel pleegt met de vrouw van een ander, moeten beiden ter dood worden gebracht. 11 Als een man gemeenschap heeft met de vrouw van zijn vader, heeft hij iets dat zijn vader toebehoort, ontheiligd. De man en de vrouw moeten allebei sterven, zij hebben hun dood aan zichzelf te wijten. 12 Als een man geslachtsgemeenschap heeft met zijn schoondochter, moeten beiden ter dood worden gebracht, zij hebben die straf zelf over zich gehaald door elkaar te verontreinigen. 13 De straf op homoseksuele omgang is de dood voor beide partijen. Zij hebben het oordeel zelf over zich gebracht. 14 Als een man geslachtsgemeenschap heeft met een vrouw én met haar moeder, is dat een groot kwaad. Zij moeten alle drie worden verbrand om deze verdorvenheid onder u uit te wissen. 15 Als een man gemeenschap heeft met een dier, moet hij worden gedood en het dier moet worden afgemaakt. 16 Als een vrouw gemeenschap heeft met een dier, dood dan de vrouw en het dier, want zij verdienen hun straf. 17 Als een man geslachtsgemeenschap heeft met zijn zuster, ongeacht of het de dochter van zijn vader of van zijn moeder is, is dat een schaamteloze zonde. Zij moeten in het openbaar uit het volk Israël worden verstoten. Hij zal boeten voor zijn schuld. 18 Als een man geslachtsgemeenschap heeft met een vrouw die ongesteld is, moeten beiden uit het volk worden verbannen, want hij heeft haar onreinheid onthuld. 19 Geslachtsgemeenschap tussen een man en zijn tante is onwettig—ongeacht of het de zuster van zijn vader of van zijn moeder is—want zij zijn naaste bloedverwanten, zij zullen beiden boeten voor hun schuld. 20 Als een man geslachtsgemeenschap heeft met de vrouw van zijn oom, heeft hij genomen wat zijn oom toebehoorde, want zij is zijn tante, als straf zullen zij boeten voor hun zonden en kinderloos sterven. 21 Als een man met de vrouw van zijn broer geslachtsgemeenschap heeft, is dat bloedschande, hij heeft genomen wat aan zijn broer toebehoorde. Zij zullen kinderloos blijven.
22 U moet al mijn wetten en instellingen gehoorzamen, zodat Ik u niet uit uw nieuwe land hoef te verdrijven. 23 U moet de gewoonten van de volken die Ik voor u verdrijf, niet overnemen, want zij doen al deze dingen waarvoor Ik u heb gewaarschuwd. Daardoor heb Ik een afkeer van hen gekregen. 24 Ik heb u hun land beloofd: Ik zal het u als bezit geven. Het is een land dat overvloeit van melk en honing. Ik ben de Here, uw God, die onderscheid heeft gemaakt tussen u en de andere volken. 25 Daarom zult u onderscheid maken tussen de vogels en de dieren die u van Mij wel en niet mag eten. Verontreinig u niet en maak uzelf bij Mij niet gehaat door een vogel of een dier te eten dat Ik heb verboden. 26 Wees heilig voor Mij, want Ik ben heilig en Ik heb u afgezonderd van andere volken om mijn eigendom te worden. 27 Een medium of waarzegger—man of vrouw—moet zonder meer worden gestenigd tot de dood erop volgt. Zij hebben zelf hun ondergang veroorzaakt.’

20 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 (A)“Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: (B)‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who [a]dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall (C)stone him with stones. 3 (D)I will set My face against that man, and will [b]cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name. 4 And if the people of the land should in any way [c]hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, 5 then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech.
6 ‘And (E)the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people. 7 (F)Consecrate[d] yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. 8 And you shall keep (G)My statutes, and perform them: (H)I am the Lord who [e]sanctifies you.
9 ‘For (I)everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. (J)His blood shall be upon him.
10 (K)‘The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death. 11 The man who lies with his (L)father’s wife has uncovered his father’s nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. 12 If a man lies with his (M)daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death. They have committed perversion. Their blood shall be upon them. 13 (N)If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. 14 If a man marries a woman and her (O)mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you. 15 If a man mates with an (P)animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. 16 If a woman approaches any animal and mates with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood is upon them.
17 ‘If a man takes his (Q)sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness, it is a wicked thing. And they shall be [f]cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered his sister’s nakedness. He shall bear his [g]guilt. 18 (R)If a man lies with a woman during her [h]sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has [i]exposed her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be [j]cut off from their people.
19 ‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your (S)mother’s sister nor of your (T)father’s sister, for that would uncover his near of kin. They shall bear their guilt. 20 If a man lies with his (U)uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness. They shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. 21 If a man takes his (V)brother’s wife, it is an [k]unclean thing. He has uncovered his brother’s nakedness. They shall be childless.
22 ‘You shall therefore keep all My (W)statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell (X)may not vomit you out. 23 (Y)And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and (Z)therefore I abhor them. 24 But (AA)I have said to you, “You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, (AB)who has separated you from the peoples. 25 (AC)You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean, (AD)and you shall not make yourselves [l]abominable by beast or by bird, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as [m]unclean. 26 And you shall be holy to Me, (AE)for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine.
27 (AF)‘A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’ ”

20 El Señor ordenó a Moisés 2 que dijera a los israelitas: «Todo israelita o extranjero residente en Israel que entregue a uno de sus hijos para quemarlo como sacrificio a Moloc será condenado a muerte. El pueblo entero lo matará a pedradas. 3 Yo mismo me pondré en contra de ese hombre y lo eliminaré de su pueblo porque, al entregar a uno de sus hijos para quemarlo como sacrificio a Moloc, profana mi santuario y mi santo nombre. 4 Si el pueblo entero hace caso omiso del hombre que haya entregado alguno de sus hijos a Moloc y no lo condena a muerte, 5 yo mismo me pondré en contra de él y de su familia; eliminaré del pueblo a ese hombre y a todos los que se hayan prostituido con él, siguiendo a Moloc.
6 »También me pondré en contra de quien acuda a un médium o a los espiritistas y por seguirlos se prostituya. Lo eliminaré de su pueblo.
7 »Conságrense a mí y sean santos, porque yo soy el Señor su Dios. 8 Obedezcan mis estatutos y pónganlos por obra. Yo soy el Señor, el que los consagra.
9 »Si alguien maldice a su padre o a su madre, será condenado a muerte: ha maldecido a su padre o a su madre, y será responsable de su propia muerte.
10 »Si alguien comete adulterio con la mujer de su prójimo, tanto el adúltero como la adúltera serán condenados a muerte.
11 »Si alguien se acuesta con la mujer de su padre, deshonra a su padre. Tanto el hombre como la mujer serán condenados a muerte, de la cual ellos mismos serán responsables.
12 »Si alguien se acuesta con su nuera, hombre y mujer serán condenados a muerte. Han cometido un acto depravado, y ellos mismos serán responsables de su propia muerte.
13 »Si alguien se acuesta con otro hombre como quien se acuesta con una mujer, comete un acto abominable y los dos serán condenados a muerte, de la cual ellos mismos serán responsables.
14 »Si alguien tiene relaciones sexuales con hija y madre, comete un acto depravado. Tanto él como ellas morirán quemados, para que no haya tal depravación entre ustedes.
15 »Si alguien tiene trato sexual con un animal, será condenado a muerte, y se matará también al animal.
16 »Si una mujer tiene trato sexual con un animal, se dará muerte a ambos, y ellos serán responsables de su muerte.
17 »Si alguien tiene relaciones sexuales con una hermana suya, comete un acto vergonzoso y los dos serán ejecutados en público. Ha deshonrado a su hermana, y sufrirá las consecuencias de su pecado.
18 »Si alguien se acuesta con una mujer y tiene relaciones sexuales con ella durante su período menstrual, pone al descubierto su flujo, y también ella expone el flujo de su sangre. Los dos serán eliminados de su pueblo.
19 »No tendrás relaciones sexuales ni con tu tía materna ni con tu tía paterna, pues eso significaría la deshonra de un pariente cercano y los dos sufrirían las consecuencias de su pecado.
20 »Si alguien se acuesta con su tía, deshonra a su tío, y los dos sufrirán las consecuencias de su pecado: morirán sin tener descendencia.
21 »Si alguien tiene relaciones sexuales con la esposa de su hermano, comete un acto de impureza: ha deshonrado a su hermano, y los dos se quedarán sin descendencia.
22 »Cumplan todos mis estatutos y leyes; obedézcanlas, para que no los vomite la tierra adonde los llevo a vivir. 23 No vivan según las costumbres de las naciones que por amor a ustedes voy a expulsar. Porque ellas hicieron todas estas cosas, y yo las aborrecí. 24 Pero a ustedes les digo: “Poseerán la tierra que perteneció a esas naciones, tierra donde abundan la leche y la miel. Yo mismo la daré a ustedes como herencia”. Yo soy el Señor su Dios que los he distinguido entre las demás naciones.
25 »Por consiguiente, también ustedes deben distinguir entre los animales puros y los impuros, y entre las aves puras y las impuras. No se hagan detestables ustedes mismos por causa de animales, de aves o de cualquier alimaña que se arrastra por el suelo, pues yo se los he señalado como impuros. 26 Sean ustedes santos porque yo, el Señor, soy santo y los he distinguido entre las demás naciones, para que sean míos.
27 »Cualquiera de ustedes, hombre o mujer, que sea médium o espiritista será condenado a muerte. Morirá apedreado y será responsable de su propia muerte».
