Leviticus 19

19 1-2 The Lord also told Moses to tell the people of Israel, “You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. You must respect your mothers and fathers, and obey my Sabbath law, for I am the Lord your God. 3-4 Do not make or worship idols, for I am Jehovah your God.

5 “When you sacrifice a peace offering to the Lord, offer it correctly so that it will be accepted: 6 Eat it the same day you offer it, or the next day at the latest; any remaining until the third day must be burned. 7 For any of it eaten on the third day is repulsive to me and will not be accepted. 8 If you eat it on the third day, you are guilty, for you profane the holiness of Jehovah, and you shall be excommunicated from Jehovah’s people.

9 “When you harvest your crops, don’t reap the corners of your fields, and don’t pick up stray grains of wheat from the ground. 10 It is the same with your grape crop—don’t strip every last piece of fruit from the vines, and don’t pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and for those traveling through, for I am Jehovah your God.

11 “You must not steal nor lie nor defraud. 12 You must not swear to a falsehood, thus bringing reproach upon the name of your God, for I am Jehovah.

13 “You shall not rob nor oppress anyone, and you shall pay your hired workers promptly. If something is due them, don’t even keep it overnight.

14 “You must not curse the deaf nor trip up a blind man as he walks. Fear your God; I am Jehovah!

15 “Judges must always be just in their sentences, not noticing whether a person is poor or rich; they must always be perfectly fair.

16 “Don’t gossip. Don’t falsely accuse your neighbor of some crime,[a] for I am Jehovah.

17 “Don’t hate your brother. Rebuke anyone who sins; don’t let him get away with it, or you will be equally guilty. 18 Don’t seek vengeance. Don’t bear a grudge; but love your neighbor as yourself, for I am Jehovah.

19 “Obey my laws: Do not mate your cattle with a different kind; don’t sow your field with two kinds of seed; don’t wear clothes made of half wool and half linen.

20 “If a man seduces a slave girl[b] who is engaged to be married, they shall be tried in a court but not put to death, because she is not free. 21 The man involved shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle; the offering shall be a ram. 22 The priest shall make atonement with the ram for the sin the man has committed, and it shall be forgiven him.

23 “When you enter the land and have planted all kinds of fruit trees, do not eat the first three crops, for they are considered ceremonially defiled.[c] 24 And the fourth year the entire crop shall be devoted to the Lord, and shall be given to the Lord in praise to him. 25 Finally, in the fifth year, the crop is yours.

26 “I am Jehovah your God! You must not eat meat with undrained blood nor use fortune-telling or witchcraft.

27 “You must not trim off your hair on your temples or clip the edges of your beard, as the heathen do.[d] 28 You shall not cut yourselves nor put tattoo marks upon yourselves in connection with funeral rites; I am the Lord.

29 “Do not violate your daughter’s sanctity by making her a prostitute, lest the land become full of enormous wickedness.

30 “Keep my Sabbath laws and reverence my Tabernacle, for I am the Lord.

31 “Do not defile yourselves by consulting mediums and wizards, for I am Jehovah your God.

32 “You shall give due honor and respect to the elderly, in the fear of God. I am Jehovah.

33 “Do not take advantage of foreigners in your land; do not wrong them. 34 They must be treated like any other citizen; love them as yourself, for remember that you too were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Jehovah your God.

35-36 “You must be impartial in judgment. Use accurate measurements—lengths, weights, and volumes—and give full measure, for I am Jehovah your God who brought you from the land of Egypt. 37 You must heed all of my commandments and ordinances, carefully obeying them, for I am Jehovah.”

19 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

3 Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you will keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

4 Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves cast metal gods: I am the Lord your God.

5 When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you might be accepted. 6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it or on the next day, and if any remains until the third day, it shall be burned in the fire. 7 If it is eaten at all on the third day, then it is contaminated. It shall not be accepted. 8 Therefore everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has defiled what is holy of the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from among his people.

9 When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap up to the edge of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 You shall not glean bare your vineyard, nor shall you gather every fallen grape of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

11 You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.

12 You shall not swear falsely by My name, and so defile the name of your God: I am the Lord.

13 You shall not defraud your neighbor or rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not stay with you all night until the morning.

14 You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

15 You shall do no unrighteousness in a court. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person who is great, but in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.

16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, nor shall you stand by while the life of your neighbor is in danger: I am the Lord.

17 You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely reason honestly with your neighbor, and not suffer sin because of him.

18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

19 You shall keep My statutes.

You shall not let your livestock breed with a different kind.

You shall not sow your field with mixed seed, nor shall your garment be mixed from two types of fabric.

20 Whoever lies with a slave woman who is betrothed to another man and not yet ransomed or given freedom, compensation will be made. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free. 21 He shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering. 22 The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin which he has done, and he will be forgiven for the sin that he has committed.

23 When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, then you shall count the fruit as forbidden.[a] Three years it shall be forbidden to you. It shall not be eaten. 24 But in the fourth year all the fruit shall be holy and an offering of praise to the Lord. 25 And in the fifth year you shall eat of the fruit that it may yield an increase to you: I am the Lord your God.

26 You shall not eat anything with the blood in it, nor shall you practice divination or fortune-telling.

27 You shall not round the corners of the hair on your head, nor shall you mar the edges of your beard.

28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord.

29 Do not prostitute your daughter and cause her to be defiled, lest the land fall into whoredom and become full of wickedness.

30 You shall keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary: I am the Lord.

31 Do not turn to spirits through mediums or necromancers. Do not seek after them to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

32 You shall rise up before a gray head, and honor the face of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.

33 When a foreigner sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34 The foreigner who dwells with you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

35 You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment regarding measures in length, weight, or quantity. 36 You shall have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah,[b] and an honest hin:[c] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37 Therefore you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments and do them: I am the Lord.

3 “‘Each of you must respect your mother and father,(D) and you must observe my Sabbaths.(E) I am the Lord your God.(F)

4 “‘Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves.(G) I am the Lord your God.(H)

5 “‘When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the Lord, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. 6 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up.(I) 7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted.(J) 8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible(K) because they have desecrated what is holy(L) to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.(M)

20 “‘If a man sleeps with a female slave who is promised to another man(AU) but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment.[a] Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed. 21 The man, however, must bring a ram to the entrance to the tent of meeting for a guilt offering to the Lord.(AV) 22 With the ram of the guilt offering the priest is to make atonement for him before the Lord for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven.(AW)

35 “‘Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity.(BR) 36 Use honest scales(BS) and honest weights, an honest ephah[d](BT) and an honest hin.[e](BU) I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.(BV)

Regler för det dagliga livet

1-2 Herren befallde också Mose att säga följande till Israels folk: Ni måste vara heliga, för jag, Herren, er Gud, är helig. Ni måste respektera era föräldrar och hålla min sabbatslag, för jag är Herren, er Gud.

3-4 Tillverka inte eller tillbe avgudar, för jag är Herren, er Gud.

5 När ni bär fram ett tackoffer till Herren, ska ni offra det på rätt sätt så att det blir accepterat.

6 Ät det samma dag ni offrar det och aldrig senare än dagen därpå. Det som blir kvar till tredje dagen måste brännas upp.

7 Det som äts på den tredje dagen är nämligen vedervärdigt för mig, och jag kan inte acceptera det.

8 Om ni äter det på den tredje dagen drar ni på er skuld, för då ohelgar ni Herrens helighet och ska bli skilda från Herrens folk.

9 När ni bärgar in skörden, ska ni inte skörda i hörnen och längs kanterna av fältet, och inte heller plocka upp ax som ligger kvar på marken.

10 Samma sak gäller vinskörden. Plocka inte av de sista druvorna på grenarna, och låt druvor som fallit ner på marken ligga kvar. Lämna detta åt de fattiga och åt främlingar, för jag är Herren, er Gud.

11 Ni ska inte stjäla eller ljuga eller bedra någon av ert eget folk.

12 Inte heller ska ni svära falskt och därigenom dra vanära över er Guds namn, för jag är Herren.

13 Ni ska inte röva från någon eller förtrycka någon, och ni ska betala era anställda väl. Om ni är skyldiga dem något, så betala det genast, helst samma dag.

14 Du ska inte förbanna den döve eller lägga en snara för den blinde, där han går fram. Frukta er Gud! Jag är Herren!

15 Bevaka rättvisan och gör inte skillnad på fattig och rik. Döm inte din nästa för hårt.

16 Skvallra inte! Kom inte med falska anklagelser mot en medmänniska, för jag är Herren.

17 Du får inte hata din bror! Tillrättavisa den som syndar! Låt honom inte komma undan, för då är du lika skyldig som han.

18 Hämnas inte! Var inte självisk och överlägsen, utan älska din medmänniska som dig själv, för jag är Herren.

19 Lyd mina lagar: Låt inte djur av olika slag para sig med varandra, och så inte två olika sädesslag på din åker. Bär inte kläder som är vävda av två olika material.

20 Om en man förför en slavflicka som ska gifta sig med en annan man, ska de båda två ställas inför domstol men inte dömas till döden, eftersom hon inte är fri.

21 Mannen ska bära fram sitt skuldoffer inför Herren vid ingången till tabernaklet. Offret ska bestå av en bagge.

22 Prästen ska med baggen skaffa försoning åt mannen för den synd han har begått, och han ska få förlåtelse.

23 När ni har kommit in i landet och har planterat alla slags fruktträd ska ni inte äta något av de tre första skördarna, för de betraktas som orena.

24 Det fjärde året ska hela skörden överlämnas åt Herren och ges till honom som tacksägelse.

25 Först det femte året är skörden er egen, och då kommer Herren att ge er extra mycket.

26 Jag är Herren, er Gud! Ni får inte äta blodigt kött. Inte heller får ni befatta er med spådomar och trollkonster.

27 Ni får inte klippa håret vid tinningarna eller ansa era skägg så som hedningarna gör.

28 Ni ska inte rista in några märken i er hud eller tatuera er. Jag är Herren.

29 Du ska inte förnedra din dotter genom att göra henne till en prostituerad, för då kommer landet snart att bli fyllt av ondska.

30 Håll mina sabbatslagar och respektera mitt tabernakel, för jag är Herren.

31 Orena er inte genom att rådfråga medier och trollkarlar, för jag är Herren, er Gud.

32 Ni ska bevisa de äldre vördnad och respekt i fruktan för Gud. Jag är Herren.

33 Utnyttja inte invandrarna i ert land. Handla inte orätt mot dem.

34 De ska behandlas som andra medborgare. Älska dem som er själva och kom ihåg att ni också var främlingar i Egypten. Jag är Herren, er Gud.

35-36 Ni måste vara opartiska. Använd aldrig falska mått på längd, vikt och rymd. Ge i stället fullt mått, för jag är Herren, er Gud, som ledde er ut ur Egypten.

37 Ni måste ge akt på alla mina befallningar och förordningar och lyda dem mycket noga, för jag är Herren.
