^18 (A)You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but ^(B)you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

² During supper, when ^(A)the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, ³ Jesus, knowing ^(B)that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that ^(C)he had come from God and ^(D)was going back to God, ⁴ rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, ^(E)tied it around his waist. ⁵ Then he ^(F)poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

¹² When he had washed their feet and ^(A)put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, ^(B)“Do you understand what I have done to you? ^13 (C)You call me ^(D)Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, ^(E)you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, ^(F)that you also should do just as I have done to you.

A New Commandment

³¹ When he had gone out, Jesus said, ^(A)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and ^(B)God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, ^(C)God will also glorify him in himself, and ^(D)glorify him at once. ³³ Little children, ^(E)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just ^(F)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ ^34 (G)A new commandment ^(H)I give to you, ^(I)that you love one another: ^(J)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Love One Another

¹¹ For ^(A)this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, ^(B)that we should love one another.

²³ And this is his commandment, ^(A)that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and ^(B)love one another, ^(C)just as he has commanded us.

²¹ And ^(A)this commandment we have from him: ^(B)whoever loves God must also love his brother.
