Leviticus 17:10-16

¹⁰ ¶ And any man of the house of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you that eats any blood at all, I will set my face against that person that eats blood and will cut them off from among his people.

¹¹ For the soul (or life) of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you to reconcile your persons (or souls) upon the altar; therefore the same blood reconciles the person.

¹² Therefore I have said unto the sons of Israel: No person of you shall eat blood; neither shall any stranger that sojourns among you eat blood.

¹³ And any man of the sons of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you who hunts and catches any beast or fowl that may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with dust.

¹⁴ For the soul of all flesh, its life, is in its blood; therefore, I have said unto the sons of Israel, Ye shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the soul (or the life) of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.

¹⁵ And any person that eats that which died of itself or that which was torn by beasts whether it is a natural of your own country or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening; then he shall be clean.

¹⁶ But if he washes them not, nor bathes his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.
