Eating Blood Forbidden
17 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to Aaron and his sons(A) and to all the Israelites and say to them: ‘This is what the Lord has commanded: 3 Any Israelite who sacrifices an ox,[a] a lamb(B) or a goat(C) in the camp or outside of it 4 instead of bringing it to the entrance to the tent of meeting(D) to present it as an offering to the Lord in front of the tabernacle of the Lord(E)—that person shall be considered guilty of bloodshed; they have shed blood and must be cut off from their people.(F) 5 This is so the Israelites will bring to the Lord the sacrifices they are now making in the open fields. They must bring them to the priest, that is, to the Lord, at the entrance to the tent of meeting and sacrifice them as fellowship offerings.(G) 6 The priest is to splash the blood against the altar(H) of the Lord(I) at the entrance to the tent of meeting and burn the fat as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(J) 7 They must no longer offer any of their sacrifices to the goat idols[b](K) to whom they prostitute themselves.(L) This is to be a lasting ordinance(M) for them and for the generations to come.’(N)
8 “Say to them: ‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice 9 and does not bring it to the entrance to the tent(O) of meeting(P) to sacrifice it to the Lord(Q) must be cut off from the people of Israel.
10 “‘I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood,(R) and I will cut them off from the people. 11 For the life of a creature is in the blood,(S) and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.[c](T) 12 Therefore I say to the Israelites, “None of you may eat blood, nor may any foreigner residing among you eat blood.”
13 “‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing among you who hunts any animal or bird that may be eaten must drain out the blood and cover it with earth,(U) 14 because the life of every creature is its blood. That is why I have said to the Israelites, “You must not eat the blood of any creature, because the life of every creature is its blood; anyone who eats it must be cut off.”(V)
15 “‘Anyone, whether native-born or foreigner, who eats anything(W) found dead or torn by wild animals(X) must wash their clothes and bathe with water,(Y) and they will be ceremonially unclean till evening;(Z) then they will be clean. 16 But if they do not wash their clothes and bathe themselves, they will be held responsible.(AA)’”

17 1-2 Herren gav også Moses følgende instrukser, som han skulle videregive til Aron, præsterne og hele Israels folk:
3 „Hvis en israelit ofrer en ko, et lam eller en ged enten inde i lejren eller uden for lejren 4 i stedet for at bringe den til indgangen til åbenbaringsteltet, hvor den kan blive ofret til Herren efter forskrifterne, skal han betragtes på lige fod med en morder, og han skal bøde med sit liv. 5 Formålet med denne lov er at få Israels folk til at holde op med at ofre på uindviede steder. Fra nu af skal de altid bringe deres ofre til indgangen til åbenbaringsteltet, hvor præsten kan ofre deres takofre og andre ofre[a] til Herren. 6 Det er nemlig kun ved at bringe ofrene til præsten, at han har mulighed for at stænke blodet på Herrens alter ved åbenbaringsteltets indgang og ofre fedtet som et lifligt offer. 7 Folket skal ikke længere være mig utro. De skal holde op med at ofre til deres afskyelige afgudsgedebukke. Dette er en permanent lov, som skal gælde fra slægt til slægt. 8-9 Jeg gentager: Hvis en indfødt israelit eller en fremmed, der bor iblandt jer, bringer et brændoffer eller et andet offer andre steder end ved åbenbaringsteltets indgang, hvor det kan ofres til Herren på behørig vis, skal den person lide døden.
Forbud imod at spise blod
10 Jeg vil straffe alle israelitter eller fremmede iblandt jer, som spiser blod, ja, jeg vil udrydde dem fuldstændigt. 11 For blodet repræsenterer livet, som er helligt, og jeg vil, at blodet skal bruges til at stænke på alteret, for at det kan bringe soning for jeres synder. 12 Det er grunden til, at ingen iblandt jer, hverken israelit eller fremmed, må spise blod. 13 Og enhver, hvad enten det er en israelit eller en fremmed iblandt jer, som slår et dyr eller en fugl ihjel af den slags, som det er tilladt at spise, skal lade blodet løbe fra og dække det til med jord, 14 for blodet repræsenterer livet. Det er derfor, jeg har pålagt Israels folk aldrig at spise blod. Enhver, som alligevel gør det, skal dø.
15 Alle israelitter, såvel som fremmede iblandt jer, der spiser selvdøde dyr eller dyr, der er blevet dræbt af andre dyr, skal vaske deres tøj og bade og regnes for urene indtil aften. 16 Hvis de ikke vasker deres tøj og bader, må de selv tage ansvaret for følgerne.”

3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,
4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the Lord before the tabernacle of the Lord; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:
5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the Lord, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the Lord.
6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the Lord.
7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
8 And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice,
9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the Lord; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.
10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
15 And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
16 But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.
