Footnotes

  1. Leviticus 6:10 tn The exact nature of this article of the priest’s clothing is difficult to determine. Cf. KJV, ASV “breeches”; NAB “drawers”; NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT “undergarments”; NCV “underclothes”; CEV “underwear”; TEV “shorts.”
  2. Leviticus 6:10 tn Heb “he shall lift up the fatty ashes which the fire shall consume the burnt offering on the altar.”
  3. Leviticus 6:10 tn Heb “it,” referring the “fatty ashes” as a single unit.
  4. Leviticus 6:11 tn The word “ceremonially” has been supplied in the translation to clarify that the uncleanness of the place involved is ritual or ceremonial in nature.
  5. Leviticus 6:12 tn Heb “in it,” apparently referring to the “hearth” which was on top of the altar (cf. the note on v. 9).

10 The priest shall then put on his linen clothes,(A) with linen undergarments next to his body,(B) and shall remove the ashes(C) of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar and place them beside the altar. 11 Then he is to take off these clothes and put on others, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean.(D) 12 The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood(E) and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat(F) of the fellowship offerings(G) on it.
