³ You shall not do according to what is ^(A)done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do according to what is ^(B)done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes.

²⁴ ‘So do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these ^(A)the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled. ²⁵ So the land has become defiled, ^(B)and I have brought its ^[a]punishment upon it. And the land ^(C)has vomited out its inhabitants. ²⁶ But as for you, you shall keep My statutes and My judgments and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native nor the sojourner who sojourns among you ²⁷ (for the men of the land who have been before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become defiled); ²⁸ so that the land will not vomit you out, should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which has been before you. ²⁹ For whoever does any of these abominations, ^[b]those persons who do so shall be cut off from among their people. ³⁰ Thus you are to keep ^(D)My charge, that you do not do any of the abominable statutes which have been done before you, so as not to defile yourselves with them; ^(E)I am Yahweh your God.’”

^31 (A)You shall not do thus toward Yahweh your God, for every abominable act which Yahweh hates they have done for their gods; for ^(B)they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

Do Not Imitate Abominations

⁹ “When you enter the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not learn to ^[a](A)imitate the abominations of those nations. ¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone ^(B)who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one ^(C)who practices soothsaying or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer, ¹¹ or one who is an enchanter ^(D)or a medium or a spiritist or one who inquires of the dead. ¹² For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh; and ^(E)because of these abominations Yahweh your God will dispossess them from before you. ^13 (F)You shall be ^[b]blameless before Yahweh your God. ¹⁴ For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who ^(G)practice soothsaying and to diviners, but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you to do so.
