³ You shall not do according to what is ^(A)done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do according to what is ^(B)done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes.

¹⁶ for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed; ¹⁷ moreover, you have seen their detestable things and their idols of ^(A)wood, stone, silver, and gold, which they had with them— ^18 (B)lest there be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there be among you ^(C)a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.
