²¹ “You are not to sacrifice any of your children in the fire^[a] to Molech.^(A) Do not profane the name^(B) of your God; I am the Lord.

³ but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel.^(A) He even sacrificed his son in the fire,^[a] imitating the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.^(B)

¹⁷ They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire^[a](A) and practiced divination and interpreted omens.^(B) They devoted themselves to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight and angered him.^(C)

⁶ He sacrificed his son in the fire,^[a](A) practiced witchcraft and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists.^(B) He did a huge amount of evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him.^(C)

¹⁰ He defiled Topheth,^(A) which is in Ben Hinnom Valley,^(B) so that no one could sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire^[a](C) to Molech.^(D)

³⁵ They have built the high places of Baal in Ben Hinnom Valley to sacrifice their sons and daughters in the fire^[a] to Molech^(A)—something I had not commanded them. I had never entertained the thought^[b] that they do this detestable act causing Judah to sin!

²⁶ When they sacrificed every firstborn in the fire,^[a](A) I defiled them through their gifts in order to devastate them so they would know that I am the Lord.’^(B)

³¹ When you offer your gifts, sacrificing your children in the fire,^[a](A) you still continue to defile yourselves with all your idols today. So should I let you inquire of me, house of Israel? As I live—this is the declaration of the Lord God—I will not let you inquire of me!

³⁷ For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands; they have committed adultery with their idols. And the children they bore to me they have sacrificed in the fire^[a] as food for the idols.^(A)
