The Day of Atonement
16 The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the Lord and died. 2 The Lord said to Moses:
Tell your brother Aaron not to come just at any time into the sanctuary inside the curtain before the mercy seat[a] that is upon the ark, or he will die; for I appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.[b] 3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and shall have the linen undergarments next to his body, fasten the linen sash, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy vestments. He shall bathe his body in water, and then put them on. 5 He shall take from the congregation of the people of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. 7 He shall take the two goats and set them before the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting; 8 and Aaron shall cast lots on the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other lot for Azazel.[c] 9 Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the Lord, and offer it as a sin offering; 10 but the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel[d] shall be presented alive before the Lord to make atonement over it, that it may be sent away into the wilderness to Azazel.[e]
11 Aaron shall present the bull as a sin offering for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house; he shall slaughter the bull as a sin offering for himself. 12 He shall take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of crushed sweet incense, and he shall bring it inside the curtain 13 and put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat[f] that is upon the covenant,[g] or he will die. 14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the mercy seat,[h] and before the mercy seat[i] he shall sprinkle the blood with his finger seven times.
15 He shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the curtain, and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it upon the mercy seat[j] and before the mercy seat.[k] 16 Thus he shall make atonement for the sanctuary, because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel, and because of their transgressions, all their sins; and so he shall do for the tent of meeting, which remains with them in the midst of their uncleannesses. 17 No one shall be in the tent of meeting from the time he enters to make atonement in the sanctuary until he comes out and has made atonement for himself and for his house and for all the assembly of Israel. 18 Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement on its behalf, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and of the blood of the goat, and put it on each of the horns of the altar. 19 He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it and hallow it from the uncleannesses of the people of Israel.
20 When he has finished atoning for the holy place and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall present the live goat. 21 Then Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the people of Israel, and all their transgressions, all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and sending it away into the wilderness by means of someone designated for the task.[l] 22 The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a barren region; and the goat shall be set free in the wilderness.
23 Then Aaron shall enter the tent of meeting, and shall take off the linen vestments that he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there. 24 He shall bathe his body in water in a holy place, and put on his vestments; then he shall come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, making atonement for himself and for the people. 25 The fat of the sin offering he shall turn into smoke on the altar. 26 The one who sets the goat free for Azazel[m] shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward may come into the camp. 27 The bull of the sin offering and the goat of the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be taken outside the camp; their skin and their flesh and their dung shall be consumed in fire. 28 The one who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward may come into the camp.
29 This shall be a statute to you forever: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall deny yourselves,[n] and shall do no work, neither the citizen nor the alien who resides among you. 30 For on this day atonement shall be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before the Lord. 31 It is a sabbath of complete rest to you, and you shall deny yourselves;[o] it is a statute forever. 32 The priest who is anointed and consecrated as priest in his father’s place shall make atonement, wearing the linen vestments, the holy vestments. 33 He shall make atonement for the sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the tent of meeting and for the altar, and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly. 34 This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the people of Israel once in the year for all their sins. And Moses did as the Lord had commanded him.

Lo stesso farà per la tenda di convegno che è tra di loro, in mezzo alle loro impurità. 17 Nella tenda di convegno, quando egli entrerà nel santuario per farvi l’espiazione, non ci sarà nessuno, finché egli non sia uscito e non abbia fatto l’espiazione per sé, per la sua casa e per tutta la comunità d’Israele. 18 Egli uscirà verso l’altare che è davanti al Signore e farà l’espiazione per esso; prenderà del sangue del toro e del sangue del capro e lo metterà sui corni dell’altare da ogni lato. 19 Farà sette aspersioni del sangue, con il dito, sull’altare; così lo purificherà e lo santificherà a causa delle impurità dei figli d’Israele.

29 (C)«Questa sarà per voi una legge perenne: nel settimo mese, il decimo giorno del mese, vi umilierete e non farete nessun lavoro, né colui che è nativo del paese, né lo straniero che abita fra di voi. 30 Poiché in quel giorno si farà l’espiazione per voi, per purificarvi; voi sarete purificati da tutti i vostri peccati, davanti al Signore. 31 È per voi un sabato di riposo solenne e vi umilierete; è una legge perenne.
32 Il sacerdote che ha ricevuto l’unzione ed è stato consacrato per esercitare il sacerdozio al posto di suo padre farà l’espiazione; si vestirà delle vesti di lino, dei paramenti sacri. 33 Farà l’espiazione per il santuario sacro; farà l’espiazione per la tenda di convegno e per l’altare; farà l’espiazione per i sacerdoti e per tutto il popolo della comunità. 34 Questa sarà per voi una legge perenne: fare una volta all’anno, per i figli d’Israele, l’espiazione di tutti i loro peccati». 3 Auf diese Weise soll Aaron in das Heiligtum hineingehen: mit einem jungen Stier als Sündopfer und mit einem Widder als Brandopfer;
4 und er soll den heiligen leinenen Leibrock anziehen und soll ein leinenes Unterkleid an seinem Fleisch haben und sich mit einem leinenen Gürtel gürten und einen leinenen Kopfbund umbinden, denn das sind die heiligen Kleider; und er soll sein Fleisch im Wasser baden und sie anziehen.
5 Dann soll er von der Gemeinde der Kinder Israels zwei Ziegenböcke nehmen als Sündopfer und einen Widder als Brandopfer.
6 Und Aaron soll den Jungstier als Sündopfer für sich selbst herzubringen und Sühnung erwirken für sich und sein Haus.
7 Danach soll er die beiden Böcke nehmen und sie vor den Herrn stellen, an den Eingang der Stiftshütte.
8 Und Aaron soll Lose werfen über die beiden Böcke, ein Los »Für den Herrn« und ein Los »Für die Verwendung als Sündenbock«[b].
9 Und Aaron soll den Bock herzubringen, auf den das Los »Für den Herrn« fiel, und ihn als Sündopfer opfern.
10 Aber den Bock, auf den das Los »Für die Verwendung als Sündenbock« fiel, soll er lebendig vor den Herrn stellen, um über ihm die Sühnung zu erwirken und ihn als Sündenbock in die Wüste fortzuschicken.
11 Und Aaron bringe den Jungstier des Sündopfers herzu, das für ihn selbst bestimmt ist, und erwirke Sühnung für sich und sein Haus; und er schächte den Jungstier des Sündopfers, das für ihn selbst bestimmt ist.
12 Danach nehme er die Pfanne voll Feuerkohlen von dem Altar, der vor dem Herrn steht, und seine beiden Hände voll wohlriechenden zerstoßenen Räucherwerks und bringe es hinein hinter den Vorhang;
13 und er lege das Räucherwerk auf das Feuer vor dem Herrn, damit die Wolke des Räucherwerks den Sühnedeckel verhüllt, der auf dem Zeugnis ist, und er nicht stirbt.
14 Er soll auch von dem Blut des Jungstieres nehmen und es mit seinem Finger gegen den Sühnedeckel sprengen, nach Osten zu. Siebenmal soll er so vor dem Sühnedeckel mit seinem Finger von dem Blut sprengen.
15 Danach soll er den Bock des Sündopfers, das für das Volk bestimmt ist, schächten und sein Blut hineinbringen hinter den Vorhang, und er soll mit dessen Blut tun, wie er mit dem Blut des Jungstiers getan hat, und er soll es auf den Sühnedeckel und vor den Sühnedeckel sprengen.
16 So soll er Sühnung erwirken für das Heiligtum wegen der Unreinheiten der Kinder Israels und wegen ihrer Übertretungen und aller ihrer Sünden, und er soll dasselbe tun mit der Stiftshütte, die sich mitten unter ihren Unreinheiten befindet.

18 Und er soll hinausgehen zu dem Altar, der vor dem Herrn steht, und für ihn Sühnung erwirken. Und er soll von dem Blut des Jungstieres und von dem Blut des Bockes nehmen und auf die Hörner des Altars tun, ringsum,
19 und er soll mit seinem Finger von dem Blut siebenmal darauf sprengen und ihn reinigen und heiligen von der Unreinheit der Kinder Israels.
20 Und wenn er die Sühnung vollendet hat für das Heiligtum und die Stiftshütte und den Altar, so soll er den lebendigen Bock herzubringen.
21 Und Aaron soll seine beiden Hände auf den Kopf des lebendigen Bockes stützen und über ihm alle Schuld der Kinder Israels und alle ihre Übertretungen in allen ihren Sünden bekennen, und er soll sie dem Bock auf den Kopf legen und ihn durch einen Mann, der bereitsteht, in die Wüste fortschicken.
22 Und der Bock soll alle ihre Schuld, die auf ihm liegt, in ein abgeschiedenes Land[c] tragen; und er schicke den Bock in die Wüste.
23 Und Aaron soll in die Stiftshütte gehen und die leinenen Kleider ausziehen, die er anzog, als er in das Heiligtum ging, und soll sie dort lassen;
24 und er soll sein Fleisch im Wasser baden an heiliger Stätte und seine eigenen Kleider anziehen und hinausgehen und sein Brandopfer und das Brandopfer des Volkes opfern und Sühnung erwirken für sich und das Volk.
25 Und das Fett des Sündopfers soll er auf dem Altar in Rauch aufgehen lassen.
26 Der aber, welcher den Bock als Sündenbock[d] fortgesandt hat, soll seine Kleider waschen und seinen Leib im Wasser baden, und danach kann er in das Lager kommen.
27 Den Jungstier des Sündopfers aber und den Bock des Sündopfers, deren Blut zur Sühnung in das Heiligtum gebracht worden ist, soll man hinaus vor das Lager schaffen und mit Feuer verbrennen, ihre Haut und ihr Fleisch und ihren Unrat.
28 Und der sie verbrannt hat, wasche seine Kleider und bade seinen Leib im Wasser, und danach kann er in das Lager kommen.
29 Und das soll eine ewig gültige Ordnung für euch sein: Am zehnten Tag des siebten Monats sollt ihr eure Seelen demütigen und kein Werk tun, weder der Einheimische noch der Fremdling, der in eurer Mitte wohnt.
30 Denn an diesem Tag wird für euch Sühnung erwirkt, um euch zu reinigen; von allen euren Sünden sollt ihr gereinigt werden vor dem Herrn.
31 Darum soll es euch ein Sabbat der Ruhe sein, und ihr sollt eure Seelen demütigen; das soll eine ewige Ordnung sein.
32 Und die Sühnung soll ein Priester vollziehen, den man gesalbt und dessen Hand man gefüllt hat, damit er anstelle seines Vaters als Priester dient; und er soll die leinenen Kleider anziehen, die heiligen Kleider,
33 und er soll Sühnung erwirken für das Allerheiligste[e] und die Stiftshütte, und für den Altar soll er Sühnung tun; auch für die Priester und für die ganze Volksgemeinde soll er Sühnung erwirken.
34 Das soll euch eine ewige Ordnung sein, dass ihr für die Kinder Israels einmal im Jahr Sühnung erwirkt wegen aller ihrer Sünden!
Und man machte es so, wie der Herr es Mose geboten hatte.

16 Áron fiai közül ketten[a] meghaltak, amikor áldozatot mutattak be az Örökkévalónak. 2 Ezután az Örökkévaló szólt Mózesnek: „Mondd meg a testvérednek, Áronnak, hogy nem léphet be akármikor a Szentek Szentjébe, a függönyön túlra, ahol a Szövetségláda fedele fölött megjelenek a felhőben. Ha nem a megfelelő módon és időben lép be oda, meg fog halni.
3 Amikor Áronnak be kell jönnie a Szentek Szentjébe, akkor előbb fel kell áldoznia az Örökkévalónak egy fiatal bikát bűnért való áldozatul és egy kost égőáldozatul. 4 Áron először mossa meg egész testét, majd vegye föl a szent öltözetet: nadrágja, köntöse, öve és süvege is lenvászonból legyen.
5 Izráel egész közössége hozzon az Örökkévalónak két kecskebakot vétekáldozatnak és egy kost égőáldozatnak, s ezeket adják Áronnak.
6 Azután mutassa be Áron a bűnért való áldozatra szánt bikát saját magáért az Örökkévalónak. Így szerezzen engesztelést[b] önmagáért és családjáért.
7 Azután pedig vigye a két bakot az Örökkévaló elé, a Találkozás Sátorának bejáratához, 8 és sorshúzással jelölje ki az egyiket az Örökkévalónak, a másikat Ázázélnek.[c]

29-30 Örökké érvényes rendelkezés ez a számotokra: a hetedik hónap tizedik napján böjtöljetek és tartóztassátok meg magatokat[d]. Se ti ne végezzetek semmiféle munkát, se a közöttetek lakó idegenek, mert ezen a napon szerez számotokra engesztelést a főpap, hogy megtisztítson benneteket. Így fogtok az Örökkévaló előtt megtisztulni összes bűneitektől ezen a napon. 31 Ez a nap legyen nagyon szent a számotokra! Böjtöljetek, tartóztassátok meg magatokat, és egyáltalán ne végezzetek semmiféle munkát ezen a napon! Örök törvény legyen ez a számotokra.
32 Ugyanígy végezze az Engesztelő Áldozat szertartását az a főpap is, aki majd az apja, Áron helyébe lép, amikor felszentelik és fölkenik a szent olajjal. Ő is ugyanazt a szent lenvászon öltözetet viselje, 33 és így végezze el az engesztelés szertartását, vagyis a Szentek Szentjének, a Találkozás Sátorának és az oltárnak megtisztítását. Így szerezzen engesztelést a papokért és Izráel egész közösségéért. 34 Örökké érvényes rendelkezés ez számotokra: minden évben egyszer így kell megtisztítanotok a szent helyet, és engesztelést szereznetek Izráel népe számára.”
Mózes tehát elmondta ezeket Áronnak, aki mindent annak megfelelően úgy tett, ahogyan az Örökkévaló parancsolta.

16 L’Eternel parla à Moïse après la mort des deux fils d’Aaron qui périrent lorsqu’ils se présentèrent devant l’Eternel. 2 Il lui dit : Dis à ton frère Aaron de ne pas entrer à tout moment dans le sanctuaire au-delà du voile, devant le propitiatoire qui repose sur le coffre sacré afin qu’il ne meure pas ; car j’apparais[a] dans la nuée au-dessus du propitiatoire[b].
3 Voici de quelle manière Aaron pourra pénétrer dans le sanctuaire : il prendra un jeune taureau pour le sacrifice pour le péché et un bélier pour l’holocauste. 4 Il se revêtira d’une tunique sainte en lin, il mettra sur lui des caleçons de lin, se ceindra d’une écharpe de lin et se coiffera d’un turban de lin. Il mettra ces vêtements sacrés après s’être lavé le corps dans l’eau. 5 L’assemblée des Israélites lui fournira deux boucs pour le sacrifice pour le péché et un bélier pour l’holocauste.
6 Aaron offrira pour lui-même le taureau du sacrifice pour le péché, et il fera l’expiation pour lui et pour sa famille. 7 Puis il prendra les deux boucs et les placera devant l’Eternel à l’entrée de la tente de la Rencontre. 8 Il tirera au sort pour savoir lequel des deux sera destiné à être sacrifié à l’Eternel et lequel sera destiné à être un bouc émissaire[c]. 9 Il fera approcher le bouc que le sort aura attribué à l’Eternel, et l’offrira en sacrifice pour le péché. 10 Quant au bouc désigné par le sort comme bouc émissaire, on le présentera vivant devant l’Eternel, pour servir à l’expiation et pour être chassé comme bouc émissaire dans le désert.
11 Aaron offrira pour lui-même le taureau du sacrifice pour le péché afin de faire l’expiation pour lui-même et pour sa famille. Il immolera le taureau de son sacrifice pour le péché. 12 Après cela, il prendra un plein encensoir de charbons ardents de l’autel, de devant l’Eternel, et deux pleines poignées de parfum à brûler réduit en poudre, et il emportera le tout au-delà du voile. 13 Là, il répandra le parfum sur le feu devant l’Eternel, de sorte que le nuage de fumée couvre le propitiatoire qui se trouve au-dessus de l’acte de l’alliance[d]. Ainsi il ne mourra pas. 14 Il prendra du sang du taureau et en fera aspersion avec son doigt sur le côté oriental du propitiatoire, puis il en fera sept fois aspersion devant le propitiatoire. 15 Il immolera le bouc du sacrifice pour le péché du peuple et en portera le sang au-delà du voile ; il procédera avec ce sang comme avec celui du taureau : il en fera des aspersions sur le propitiatoire et devant lui.
16 C’est ainsi qu’il accomplira le rite d’expiation pour purifier le sanctuaire de l’impureté et des désobéissances des Israélites, de toutes leurs fautes quelle qu’en soit la nature. Il procédera de même pour la tente de la Rencontre, qui demeure avec eux, au milieu de leurs impuretés. 17 Personne ne devra se trouver dans la tente de la Rencontre depuis le moment où il y entrera pour accomplir le rite d’expiation dans le sanctuaire jusqu’à ce qu’il en ressorte. Il accomplira ces rites d’expiation pour lui-même, pour sa famille et pour toute l’assemblée d’Israël.
18 Après cela, il sortira vers l’autel qui est devant l’Eternel et accomplira le rite d’expiation pour celui-ci ; il prendra du sang du taureau et du sang du bouc, et il en appliquera sur les cornes de l’autel tout autour. 19 Puis, avec son doigt, il fera sept fois l’aspersion du sang sur l’autel. Il le purifiera ainsi des impuretés des Israélites et le consacrera.
20 Quand il aura achevé le rite d’expiation pour le sanctuaire, pour la tente de la Rencontre et pour l’autel, il fera amener le bouc vivant. 21 Il posera ses deux mains sur la tête du bouc vivant et confessera sur lui toutes les désobéissances, tous les péchés, toutes les fautes des Israélites ; ainsi il les fera passer sur la tête du bouc, puis il fera chasser celui-ci au désert par un homme désigné pour cela. 22 Le bouc emportera sur lui tous leurs péchés dans un lieu à l’écart : on le chassera au désert.
23 Aaron retournera dans la tente de la Rencontre, il ôtera les vêtements de lin qu’il avait mis pour pénétrer dans le sanctuaire, et les déposera là. 24 Il se lavera à l’eau dans un lieu saint, puis remettra ses vêtements sacerdotaux ordinaires, et il sortira pour offrir son holocauste ainsi que celui du peuple, afin d’accomplir le rite d’expiation pour lui et pour le peuple. 25 Il brûlera sur l’autel la graisse de la victime du sacrifice pour le péché.
26 L’homme qui aura chassé le bouc émissaire nettoiera ses vêtements, se lavera le corps à l’eau, et après cela, il pourra rentrer au camp. 27 Quant au taureau et au bouc offerts en sacrifice pour le péché et dont le sang aura été introduit dans le sanctuaire pour accomplir le rite d’expiation, on emportera leur peau, leur viande et leurs déchets à l’extérieur du camp pour les brûler. 28 Celui qui les aura brûlés nettoiera ses vêtements, se lavera le corps à l’eau, et après cela, il pourra rentrer au camp.
29 Ceci sera pour vous une règle en vigueur à perpétuité. Le dixième jour du septième mois vous vous humilierez et vous ne ferez aucun travail ce jour-là – aussi bien les autochtones que les étrangers résidant au milieu de vous[e]. 30 Car en ce jour-là, on accomplira le rite d’expiation pour vous afin de vous purifier de toutes vos fautes ; ainsi vous serez purs devant l’Eternel. 31 Ce sera pour vous un sabbat, un jour de repos complet, pendant lequel vous vous humilierez ; c’est là une institution pour toujours.
32 Le rite d’expiation sera accompli par le prêtre qui aura reçu l’onction et l’office sacerdotal à la place de son père. Il revêtira les vêtements de lin, les vêtements sacrés. 33 Il accomplira le rite d’expiation pour le sanctuaire sacré, pour la tente de la Rencontre, le rite d’expiation pour l’autel, le rite d’expiation pour les prêtres et pour tout le peuple rassemblé.
34 C’est pour vous une ordonnance en vigueur à perpétuité : une fois par an, on doit accomplir pour les Israélites le rite d’expiation de toutes leurs fautes.
On fit tout ce que l’Eternel avait ordonné à Moïse.
