⁷ “‘Anyone who cannot afford^(A) a lamb^(B) is to bring two doves or two young pigeons^(C) to the Lord as a penalty for their sin—one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

⁸ But if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons,^(A) one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering.^(B) In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.^(C)’”

¹⁶ “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.^(A) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.^(B)

²¹ “If, however, they are poor^(A) and cannot afford these,^(B) they must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for them, together with a tenth of an ephah^[a] of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of oil, ²² and two doves or two young pigeons,^(C) such as they can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.^(D)

⁸ First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”^(C)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. ⁹ Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”^(D) He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy^(E) through the sacrifice of the body^(F) of Jesus Christ once for all.^(G)

¹² For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has,^(A) not according to what one does not have.

¹⁶ As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened,^(A) and he saw the Spirit of God^(B) descending like a dove and alighting on him.

³¹ one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering,^(A) together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the Lord on behalf of the one to be cleansed.^(B)”

⁸ They are to bring them to the priest, who shall first offer the one for the sin offering. He is to wring its head from its neck,^(A) not dividing it completely,^{(B) 9} and is to splash^(C) some of the blood of the sin offering against the side of the altar;^(D) the rest of the blood must be drained out at the base of the altar.^(E) It is a sin offering.
