The Year of the Lord's Favor

61 (A)The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has (B)anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;[a]
    he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and (C)the opening of the prison to those who are bound;[b]
(D)to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,
    (E)and the day of vengeance of our God;
    to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
    (F)to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
(G)the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
(H)that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
    the planting of the Lord, (I)that he may be glorified.[c]

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

16 (A)And he came to (B)Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And (C)as was his custom, (D)he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up (E)to read. 17 And (F)the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

13 “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I myself made a covenant with your fathers when (A)I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying, 14 (B)‘At the end of seven years each of you must set free the fellow Hebrew who has been sold to you and has served you six years; (C)you must set him free from your service.’ But (D)your fathers did not listen to me or incline their ears to me. 15 You recently repented and did what was right in my eyes (E)by proclaiming liberty, each to his neighbor, and (F)you made a covenant before me in the (G)house that is called by my name, 16 but then you turned around (H)and profaned my name when each of you took back his male and female slaves, (I)whom you had set free according to their desire, and you brought them into subjection to be your slaves.

They said, (A)“The Lord commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the people of Israel, and (B)my lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters. But if they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the people of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our fathers and added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry. So it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance. And when (C)the jubilee of the people of Israel comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry, and their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.”

And Moses commanded the people of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, “The tribe of the people of Joseph (D)is right. This is what the Lord commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: ‘Let them marry whom they think best, (E)only they shall marry within the clan of the tribe of their father. The inheritance of the people of Israel shall not be transferred from one tribe to another, for every one of the people of Israel (F)shall hold on to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
