25 While Moses was on Mount Sinai, the Lord said to him,

²⁴ These two women serve as an illustration of God’s two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them. ²⁵ And now Jerusalem is just like Mount Sinai in Arabia,^[a] because she and her children live in slavery to the law.

The Israelites Leave Sinai

¹¹ In the second year after Israel’s departure from Egypt—on the twentieth day of the second month^[a]—the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle of the Covenant.^{[b] 12} So the Israelites set out from the wilderness of Sinai and traveled on from place to place until the cloud stopped in the wilderness of Paran.

1 A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle^[a] in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month^[b] of that year he said,

19 Exactly two months after the Israelites left Egypt,^[a] they arrived in the wilderness of Sinai.
