¹² and they put him in custody, until the decision of the Lord should be made clear to them.^(A)

¹⁵ Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.^{(A) 16} When they have a dispute, they come to me, and I decide between one person and another, and I make known to them the statutes and instructions of God.”

⁵ Then Moses commanded the Israelites according to the word of the Lord, saying, “The descendants of the tribe of Joseph are right in what they are saying. ⁶ This is what the Lord commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying: Let them marry whom they think best; only it must be into a clan of their father’s tribe that they are married,^(A)

⁵ Moses brought their case before the Lord.^(A)

³⁴ They put him in custody because it was not clear what should be done to him.^(A)

²³ If you do this and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people will go to their homes in peace.”
