¹² They put him in custody until the will of the Lord should be made clear to them.^(A)

¹⁵ Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will.^{(A) 16} Whenever they have a dispute,^(B) it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.”^(C)

⁵ Then at the Lord’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right. ⁶ This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father’s tribal clan.

⁵ So Moses brought their case^(A) before the Lord,^(B)

³⁴ and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him.^(A)

²³ If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.”
