^27 (A)“Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.

²⁹ “This shall be a statute forever for you: ^(A)In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall ^[a]afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who ^[b]dwells among you. ³⁰ For on that day the priest shall make ^[c]atonement for you, to ^(B)cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the Lord. ^31 (C)It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever.

¹⁰ And ^(A)Aaron shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement; once a year he shall make atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.”

Offerings on the Day of Atonement^(A)

^7 (B)‘On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall ^(C)afflict your souls; you shall not do any work. ⁸ You shall present a burnt offering to the Lord as a sweet aroma: one young bull, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year. ^(D)Be sure they are without blemish. ⁹ Their grain offering shall be of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the one ram, ¹⁰ and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs; ¹¹ also one kid of the goats as a sin offering, besides ^(E)the sin offering for atonement, the regular burnt offering with its grain offering, and their drink offerings.

²⁴ And he shall wash his body with water in a holy place, put on his garments, come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make ^[a]atonement for himself and for the people.

^15 (A)“Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood ^(B)inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat.

¹⁰ For ^(A)godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; ^(B)but the sorrow of the world produces death. ¹¹ For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what ^(C)clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be ^(D)clear in this matter.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, ^(A)they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(B)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Mourning for the Pierced One

^10 (A)“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will ^(B)look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him ^(C)as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
