²⁷ “Now ^(A)on the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves^[a] and present a food offering to the Lord.

²⁹ “And it shall be a statute to you forever that ^(A)in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall ^(B)afflict yourselves^[a] and shall do no work, either ^(C)the native or the stranger who sojourns among you. ³⁰ For on this day shall atonement be made for you ^(D)to cleanse you. You shall be clean before the Lord from all your sins. ^31 (E)It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall ^(F)afflict yourselves; it is a statute forever.

^10 (A)Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year. With the blood of the ^(B)sin offering of atonement he shall make atonement for it once in the year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.”

Offerings for the Day of Atonement

^7 (A)“On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation and ^(B)afflict yourselves.^[a] You shall do no work, ⁸ but you shall offer a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma: one bull from the herd, one ram, seven male lambs a year old: ^(C)see that they are without blemish. ⁹ And their grain offering shall be of fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths of an ephah for the bull, two tenths for the one ram, ¹⁰ a tenth for each of the seven lambs: ¹¹ also ^(D)one male goat for a sin offering, besides ^(E)the sin offering of atonement, and the regular burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offerings.

²⁴ And he shall bathe his body in water in a holy place and put on his garments and come out and ^(A)offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people and make atonement for himself and for the people.

^15 (A)“Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood ^(B)inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it over the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat.

¹⁰ For ^(A)godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas ^(B)worldly grief produces death. ¹¹ For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, ^(C)what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

³⁷ Now when ^(A)they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, ^(B)what shall we do?” ³⁸ And Peter said to them, ^(C)“Repent and ^(D)be baptized every one of you ^(E)in the name of Jesus Christ ^(F)for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive ^(G)the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Him Whom They Have Pierced

¹⁰ “And ^(A)I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and ^(B)pleas for mercy, so that, ^(C)when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, ^(D)they shall mourn for him, ^(E)as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.
