¹¹ nor shall he go ^(A)near any dead body, nor defile himself for his father or his mother;

¹⁴ ‘This is the law when a man dies in a tent: All who come into the tent and all who are in the tent shall be unclean seven days;

^7 (A)He shall not ^[a]make himself unclean even for his father or his mother, for his brother or his sister, when they die, because his separation to God is on his head.

Regulations for Conduct of Priests^(A)

21 And the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: ^(B)‘None shall defile himself for the dead among his people, ² except for his relatives who are nearest to him: his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, and his brother;

²⁸ You shall not ^(A)make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

^16 (A)Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, ^(B)yet now we know Him thus no longer.

^26 (A)“If anyone comes to Me ^(B)and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, ^(C)yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

^59 (A)Then He said to another, “Follow Me.”

But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”

⁶⁰ Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Send for Him^(A)

⁴⁶ While He was still talking to the multitudes, ^(B)behold, His mother and ^(C)brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. ⁴⁷ Then one said to Him, “Look, ^(D)Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”

⁴⁸ But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” ⁴⁹ And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My ^(E)brothers! ⁵⁰ For ^(F)whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

^21 (A)Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, ^(B)let me first go and bury my father.”

²² But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
