⁴ And if the people of the land do at all close their eyes to that man when he gives one of his children to Molech, and do not ^(A)put him to death,

^2 (A)“If there is found among you, within any of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, ^(B)in transgressing his covenant, ³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or ^(C)the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, ^(D)which I have forbidden, ⁴ and it is told you and you hear of it, then you shall inquire ^(E)diligently, and if it is true and certain that such an abomination has been done in Israel, ⁵ then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you ^(F)shall stone that man or woman to death with stones.

⁸ you shall ^(A)not yield to him or listen to him, nor ^(B)shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of ^(A)Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might ^(B)eat food sacrificed to idols and ^(C)practice sexual immorality.

^30 (A)The times of ignorance ^(B)God overlooked, but ^(C)now he ^(D)commands all people everywhere to repent,

⁴² And he said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction,^[a] therefore ^(A)your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people.’”

^13 (A)And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, ^(B)because his sons were blaspheming God,^{[a] (C)}and he did not restrain them. ¹⁴ Therefore I swear to the house of Eli ^(D)that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”

^12 (A)Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They ^(B)turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become ^(C)devoted for destruction.^[a] I will be with you no more, unless you destroy ^(D)the devoted things from among you.
