^3 (A)‘Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and ^(B)keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

Children and Parents^(A)

6 Children, ^(B)obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ^2 (C)“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: ³ “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

⁹ Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to ^(A)the Father of spirits and live?

⁷ In you they have ^(A)made light of father and mother; in your midst they have ^(B)oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the ^[a]fatherless and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things and ^(C)profaned My Sabbaths.

⁴⁴ For I am the Lord your ^(A)God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and ^(B)you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ^(B)‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ ⁵ But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, ^(C)“Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— ⁶ then he need not honor his father ^[a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the ^[b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
