^3 (A)Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and ^(B)you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

^12 (A)“Honor your father and your mother, ^(B)that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Children and Parents

6 ^(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ^2 (B)“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), ³ “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

^8 (A)“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

⁹ Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to ^(A)the Father of spirits ^(B)and live?

⁷ Father and mother ^(A)are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner ^(B)suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow ^(C)are wronged in you. ^8 (D)You have despised my holy things and ^(E)profaned my Sabbaths.

⁴⁴ For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and ^(A)be holy, for I am holy. ^(B)You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground.

⁴ For God commanded, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ^(B)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ ⁵ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”^{[a] 6} he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have ^(C)made void the word^[b] of God.
