²⁸ You shall not make any gashes in your flesh for the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.^(A)

14 “You are children of the Lord your God. You must not lacerate yourselves or shave your forelocks for the dead.^(A)

²⁸ Then they cried aloud, and, as was their custom, they cut themselves with swords and lances until the blood gushed out over them.^(A)

⁵ They shall not make bald spots upon their heads or shave off the edges of their beards or make any gashes in their flesh.^(A)

⁶ Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them; there shall be no gashing, no shaving of the head for them.^(A)

The Holiness of Priests

21 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:

“No one shall defile himself for a dead person among his relatives,^(A)

³⁷ For every head is shaved and every beard cut off; on all the hands there are gashes and on the loins sackcloth.^(A)

⁵ Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always howling and bruising himself with stones.

⁴ Then I saw thrones, and those seated on them were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus^[a] and for the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its brand on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.^(A)

¹⁶ Also, it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be given a brand on the right hand or the forehead,^{(A) 17} so that no one can buy or sell who does not have the brand, that is, the name of the beast or the number for its name.^(B)
