²⁸ You shall not ^(A)make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

Improper Mourning

14 “You are ^(A)the children of the Lord your God; ^(B)you shall not cut yourselves nor ^[a]shave the front of your head for the dead.

²⁸ So they cried aloud, and ^(A)cut themselves, as was their custom, with ^[a]knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.

^5 (A)‘They shall not make any bald place on their heads, nor shall they shave the edges of their beards nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

⁶ Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried; ^(A)neither shall men lament for them, ^(B)cut themselves, nor ^(C)make themselves bald for them.

21 And the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: ^(B)‘None shall defile himself for the dead among his people,

Then I saw ^(C)the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, ^(D)who had not worshiped the beast ^(E)or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they ^(F)lived and ^(G)reigned with Christ for ^[a]a thousand years.
