¹⁴ You shall not revile the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind; you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.^(A)

¹⁸ “ ‘Cursed be anyone who misleads a blind person on the road.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen!’^(A)

³² “You shall rise before the aged and defer to the old, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

¹⁷ Honor everyone. Love the family of believers.^[a] Fear God. Honor the emperor.^(A)

Do Not Make Another Stumble

¹³ Let us therefore no longer pass judgment on one another, but resolve instead never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother or sister.^(A)

¹⁷ You shall not cheat one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.^(A)

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel, so that they would eat food sacrificed to idols and engage in sexual immorality.^[a](A)

⁸ “Food will not bring us close to God.”^[a] We are no worse off if we do not eat and no better off if we do.^{(A) 9} But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.^{(B) 10} For if others see you, who possess knowledge, eating in the temple of an idol, might they not, since their conscience is weak, be encouraged to the point of eating food sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ So by your knowledge the weak brother or sister for whom Christ died is destroyed.^{(C) 12} But when you thus sin against brothers and sisters and wound their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, if food is a cause of their falling, I will never again eat meat, so that I may not cause one of them to fall.^(D)

¹⁵ The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took food and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so because of the fear of God.^(A)

¹⁷ If you invoke as Father the one who judges impartially according to each person’s work, live in fear during the time of your exile.^(A)
