²⁸ otherwise the land will vomit you out for defiling it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

¹⁶ So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

²² We know that the whole creation has been groaning together as it suffers together the pains of labor,

¹⁷ Mortal, when the house of Israel lived on their own soil, they defiled it with their ways and their deeds; their conduct in my sight was like the uncleanness of a menstrual period.^(A)

¹³ Thus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, “You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,”

²² “You shall keep all my statutes and all my ordinances and observe them, so that the land to which I bring you to settle in may not vomit you out.^(A)

²⁵ Thus the land became defiled, and I punished it for its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.^(A)
