^24 (A)“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, ^(B)for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean,

^12 (A)for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And ^(B)because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

^30 (A)So keep my charge never to practice ^(B)any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: ^(C)I am the Lord your God.”

You Shall Be Holy

^22 (A)“You shall therefore keep all my statutes and all my rules and do them, that the land where I am bringing you to live may not ^(B)vomit you out. ^23 (C)And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them.

¹⁷ If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For ^(A)God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

¹⁸ But ^(A)what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. ¹⁹ For out of the heart come ^(B)evil thoughts, ^(C)murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, ^(D)slander. ^20 (E)These are what defile a person. But ^(F)to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”

^4 (A)Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’

^31 (A)You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every ^(B)abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for ^(C)they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

^3 (A)You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and ^(B)you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes.

¹⁰ For Moses said, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ^(B)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ ¹¹ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)^[a]— ¹² then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ thus ^(C)making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
