⁸ Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the Lord and the other lot for the scapegoat.

²³ And they proposed two: Joseph called ^(A)Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. ²⁴ And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, ^(B)who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen ^25 (C)to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” ²⁶ And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

⁷ And they said to one another, “Come, let us ^(A)cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this trouble has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.

^29 (A)This is the land which you shall divide by lot as an inheritance among the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions,” says the Lord God.

⁴¹ Therefore Saul said to the Lord God of Israel, ^(A)“Give^[a] a perfect lot.” ^(B)So Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, “Cast lots between my son Jonathan and me.” So Jonathan was taken.

¹⁰ Then Joshua cast ^(A)lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord, and there ^(B)Joshua divided the land to the children of Israel according to their ^[a]divisions.

The Land of Benjamin

^11 (C)Now the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families, and the territory of their lot came out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

⁵⁴ And ^(A)you shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among your families; to the larger you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance; there everyone’s inheritance shall be whatever falls to him by lot. You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers.

⁵⁵ But the land shall be ^(A)divided by lot; they shall inherit according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.
