²⁹ “This is to be a lasting ordinance^(A) for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month^(B) you must deny yourselves^[a](C) and not do any work^(D)—whether native-born^(E) or a foreigner residing among you—

The Day of Atonement^(A)

⁷ “‘On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves^[a](B) and do no work.^(C)

¹² Then he continued, “Do not be afraid,^(A) Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble^(B) yourself before your God, your words^(C) were heard, and I have come in response to them.^(D)

³⁶ For seven days present food offerings to the Lord, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly^(A) and present a food offering to the Lord.^(B) It is the closing special assembly; do no regular work.

²⁷ “The tenth day of this seventh month^(A) is the Day of Atonement.^(B) Hold a sacred assembly^(C) and deny yourselves,^[a] and present a food offering to the Lord. ²⁸ Do not do any work^(D) on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God. ²⁹ Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people.^{(E) 30} I will destroy from among their people^(F) anyone who does any work on that day. ³¹ You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance^(G) for the generations to come, wherever you live. ³² It is a day of sabbath rest^(H) for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath.”^(I)

²¹ On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly^(A) and do no regular work.^(B) This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.
