¹⁶ In this way he will make atonement^(A) for the Most Holy Place^(B) because of the uncleanness and rebellion of the Israelites, whatever their sins have been. He is to do the same for the tent of meeting,^(C) which is among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

²² In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood,^(A) and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.^(B)

²³ It was necessary, then, for the copies^(C) of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

¹⁸ “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In the first month^(A) on the first day you are to take a young bull without defect^(B) and purify the sanctuary.^{(C) 19} The priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the four corners of the upper ledge^(D) of the altar^(E) and on the gateposts of the inner court.

¹⁸ “Then he shall come out to the altar^(A) that is before the Lord and make atonement for it. He shall take some of the bull’s blood and some of the goat’s blood and put it on all the horns of the altar.^(B)

³⁶ Sacrifice a bull each day^(A) as a sin offering to make atonement^(B). Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate^(C) it. ³⁷ For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy.^(D)

¹⁵ Moses slaughtered the bull and took some of the blood,^(A) and with his finger he put it on all the horns of the altar^(B) to purify the altar.^(C) He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. So he consecrated it to make atonement for it.^(D)

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back^(A) and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.^(B)
