⁴⁶ As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp.^(A)

The Siege Lifted

³ Now there were four men with leprosy^[a](A) at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, “Why stay here until we die?

⁵ The Lord afflicted^(A) the king with leprosy^[a] until the day he died, and he lived in a separate house.^[b](B) Jotham^(C) the king’s son had charge of the palace^(D) and governed the people of the land.

²¹ King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house^[a](A)—leprous, and banned from the temple of the Lord. Jotham his son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.

¹⁴ The Lord replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face,^(A) would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp^(B) for seven days; after that she can be brought back.” ¹⁵ So Miriam was confined outside the camp^(C) for seven days,^(D) and the people did not move on till she was brought back.

The Purity of the Camp

5 The Lord said to Moses, ² “Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has a defiling skin disease^[a](A) or a discharge^(B) of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean^(C) because of a dead body.^{(D) 3} Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.^(E)” ⁴ The Israelites did so; they sent them outside the camp. They did just as the Lord had instructed Moses.

¹⁵ Outside^(A) are the dogs,^(B) those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

²⁷ Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,^(A) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.^(B)

¹⁵ See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God^(A) and that no bitter root^(B) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. ¹⁶ See that no one is sexually immoral,^(C) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.^(D)
